  1. Re Stingers, would be interested in how others handle the ammo issue. I used to load up the unit with Stingers but found that it will fire off as many as it can - and one can run out quickly. But, if you keep some in reserve your unit runs out and while reloading, the aircraft attacks in any case. (Maybe designers need to ensure a lot more AA missiles in their scenarios.)
  2. This is the critical concept to bear in mind. Also: On page 33 - Scout (Cars) Out!Use Hunt orders so that your scout cars will stop moving forward if fired upon. In WEGO this is usually fatal for vehicles. It would (usually) be better for survival to have the vehicle reverse as fast as possible to cover. Hope this goes on the master wish list.
  3. TOC is definitely not designed as a H2H game. But, it's possible to have one player in charge of the Ukrainians and one ico the US. However, the Ukr have only their small QRF that has offensive potential. The other Ukr troops are primarily static guards - so may not be very interesting for the Ukr player. One could have a 2nd player ico one of the US platoons. But again, you would only have one platoon to play with. Have to decide who is ico the support assets, drones, arty, engineers etc. The TOC challenges are not the average challenges/missions of a typical CM2 game - it is more about resource allocation and logistics in order to accomplish varying objectives like tracking down Separatist war criminals, searching for their bases, opening up supply routes by locating and destroying roadblocks and resupplying units, escorting Defectors back to be safely evacuated from the FOB, guarding Detainees so they are not "broken out of jail" by Separatist forces, guarding strategic locations, rescuing beleaguered friendlies etc etc...
  4. I had just about all scenarios and campaigns ever created uploaded to IIRC Ian for his site. I keep forgetting the link. Am sure he'll jump in and post...
  5. This is the hardest part of the CM2 game system to master imo. Am talking abut the discipline of patience. Often one has to wait and observe, wait for the FO to bring down arty on the targets that are identified, wait some more to locate other targets and dispose of them one by one. Ideally, one doesn't put oneself in the situation where one is forced to deal with multiple enemies simultaneously. If you are looking for suggestions: It seems that now you need to hunker down (maybe w/d exposed units back to safety) and wait for the FO to neutralize the enemies you do see with arty before advancing any unit further into the enemy kill zone.
  6. Yes it is. MOS exploited some trailblazing concepts that have been possible to use in the CM2 system for some time - but he is the one who succeeded in implementation and he has raised the bar (a lot).
  7. Agreed. Fortunately, 2 hours is pretty reasonable for a mission like this. Have you mentally given yourself deadlines for the recon portion vs the assault portion?
  8. With old tanks at that range there is a real chance of hitting someone thru a vision slit.
  9. When I worked in the movie industry it was a hard lesson to realize that nobody cares how hard you worked on a screenplay or the movie. If the movie is good it makes money. If it's not good, it loses money and peoples' careers can go down the drain. The world is tough that way... life is competitive. Rewarding mediocrity discriminates against the talented. Once you leave school, one does not get credit for "effort" - only for success. I subscribe to the philosophy that one rewards merit and that success encourages even greater accomplishment. The very best thing one can do with feedback is be honest, and provide suggestions on where things are going wrong and to attempt to show how things can improve. Am not attempting to be cruel or be a knowitall smartass. Pointing out other peoples' work that is exemplary generally begets positive results because people can improve through observing and following the examples of others who have accomplished xnt work. Maybe that is not politically correct in a world where "everyone" must be rewarded so that they don't "feel bad". But, I guess I am old school. (PS: I certainly don't want to make comments that upset people. If folks don't like what I am saying they can simply put me on their "Ignore" list. That's a win-win.)
  10. LOL (at first). With further thought it is amazing how easily a population can be panicked. So... PS: Odd that it was hard at first to even see the balkenkreuz on one of the aircraft and not a Swastika in sight... At first glance I thought maybe it was a 50's era PR ad for flying... or that the first aircraft was towing a big shark-shaped balloon - like the ones the dam kids leave in my pool.
  11. Very wise. In the modern titles especially have often found it suicidal to move forces forward without scouting. A couple guys with binocs or better are harder for the enemy to spot (usually) than sending a vehicle etc.
  12. If you ever read my posts you would know that I repeatedly lay claim to having absolutely no talent for design (having tried it for CM1 - and it almost gave me a breakdown). I take my hat off to those talented folks who enjoy spending months of their lives creating missions. I prefer playing and playtesting and don't mind spending hundreds of hours doing that if that helps. Some designers are very good. MOS's TOC is xnt. Most designers are average or conventional and those sorts of repetitive designs get boring after one has played the same sort of mission a few dozen times. It's like some folks spend most of their time gabbing on these forums while a few of us actually spend our time playing. To each his own and why waste time complaining about other's predilections...
  13. I got yelled at by sburke for asking about Arma on these forums. You should visit: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/
  14. Thanks for the helpful suggestion.
  15. +1 Am concerned about this as well. Most CM2 scenarios are basically repetitive variations on a common theme. I was getting quite burned out on CM2 until I started testing TOC for MOS. It was a re-energizing experience. MOS has raised the bar to a great height. Just hope that other designers are similarly inspired.
  16. Downloaded Arma 2 and Arma 3 demos. Arma 2 doesn't run - some sort of conflict or missing file. Googled around but can't figure out how to find/install it. Any help appreciated. The Arma 3 demo I got seems to be nothing more than a movie - not playable. Is there a playable Arma 3 demo?? There seems to be some discussion whether Arma 3 or Arma 2 is better. Arma 3 seems to have better graphics, but from what I read there is much less content than Arma 2. Your comments or advice plz. Anyone here play using the WW2 mods available?
  17. Agreed. The reality is that we cannot afford to win that kind of exchange without bankruptcy. Fighting the "small" Boer War vs a bunch of Uncons in Saffa is generally regarded as what almost bankrupted the British empire and led to its implosion in the decades afterwards (even before WW1). The west's creditable and humane "high value of life" philosophy is unfortunately also our Achilles heel. This is where the original concept for the French Foreign Legion would work. A bunch of foreign (seeking citizenship or refuge) or criminal types to be used as expendable troops in foreign wars. Hard to see how else one can fight an enemy who loves to die - unless one simply does a nuke or biochem attack and wipe out the region. (Biochem would be better as it would not hard infrastructure or historic monuments, art etc.) Not going to argue the moral aspects of that. But, either we have to accept that our troops' lives are not valuable any more, or... what other options are there?
  18. And yet have seen video where Brit troops used a Javelin vs an individual sniper etc. That's when I realized the war in Afgan. was hopeless. One sheepherder with rifle is how rare and costs...?
  19. Ha. Beat you to it!! But, yes you make xnt points and your TOC system should be an inspiration for a whole new generation of scenario concepts
  20. What I noticed in TOC is that one didn't see the roadblocks until on had eyes on the location. So, one could simulate a Mogadishu situation since... until one arrived at a particular road one would not see it was impassable. Then one would have to backtrack and seek a new route - similar to what happened in RL. Also, there is much fun in playing a scenario that is based on a RL event, but doesn't have to slavishly try to recreate it. I see Op Anaconda and Black Hawk Down more as inspirations for "stories" that could be better than the RL events. Rather like how some books are completely changed when turned into a movie and thus improved.
  21. This idea actually looks practical and good. It's always an advantage to be able to build countermeasures cheaper than the enemy's main attack weapons system. So, one counters tanks with small relatively expendable tank killing robots, expensive manned aircraft with drones and AT missiles etc. (Altho' while the PR keeps on about tank killing missiles the robots didn't seem to carry any.) One can see how the (perhaps not so distant) future battlefield could look like. PS: The troops' shoulder flags look Estonian. Is this an Estonian defense company?
  22. It will be wonderful to have a new CMBS campaign. Nijmegan was a lot of fun. Thank you...
  23. Love the comments section: Murad Badshah says: August 23, 2018 at 10:55 pm Thats great. Taliban’s improvement is amazing. The way they they fight and carry out their operations is praiseworthy. Without any formal training Taliban are beating US trained Afghan army so easily. Thats the result of 17 years of military experience. Thank you America.
  24. Very happy to hear that. I woulda made a comment but I already had it so didn't need to go to CMMODS or wherever it's available. If someone would post a link to where to d/l the scenario here, perhaps more would d/l and comment.
