  1. Tried doing a search for this but the word XO is too short for it? Anyhow am I using the XO units right? Here is what I do, Lets say I have a mortar team behind a hill. I deploy them back behind the ridge with the XO by them. I then send the commander to the ridge with a sneak command to call in an indirect fire mission. Is this the intended use? Or am I wasting them back by the mortar team?
  2. I often wondered about repayment from the Soviet Union after the war, being as the two counties quickly became enemies. Found this little bit interesting : "While repayment of the interest free loans was required after the end of the war under the act, in practise the US did not expect to be repaid by the USSR after the war, it received $2m in reverse lend lease supplies from the USSR mostly in the form of landing, servicing and refueling of air freight although some industrial machinery along with rare minerals were supplied. The US asked for $1.3bn at the cessation of hostiliities to settle the debt but was only offered $170m by the USSR, the dispute remained unresolved until in 1972 the US accepted an offer from the USSR to repay $722m linked to grain shipments from the USA with the remainder being written off. During the war the USSR provided an unknown number of shipments of rare minerals to the US Treasury as a form of cashless rerepayment of Lend-Lease supplies agreed before the signing of the first protocol on 1 October 1941 and extension of credit, some of these shipments were intercepted by the Germans the light cruiser HMS Edinburgh was sunk in May 1942 carrying 4.5 tonnes of gold to the US Treasury meanwhile the steamer Port Nicholson was sunk in June 1942 while sailing from Halifax, Canada to New York while carrying $43m in platinum (worth $3bn in today's prices) along with 10 tonnes of gold and industrial diamonds." -Albert L. Weeks, Russia's Life-Saver: Lend-Lease Aid to the U.S.S.R. in World War II, 2004 New York, Lexington Lets go find those ships fast! Who can scuba dive? edit: Seems they have been salvaged already. Dang there goes my get rich quick scheme of the day.
  3. Anyone ever run across accounts where it was used out on the real battlefield?
  4. I think my kid will have more use out of it than any of us. At the moment, his favorite "tactic" is sending our Bat HQ to go "blow up that bad guy". At 7 years old he doesn't yet get that the "bad guy" is actually a heavy armored Tiger located on a hit with open fields around it. Granted at 7 he wont read the info when its there, but when he is old enough to get it he will get use out of it. I also will too just not in the same example. I hope lol
  5. Sounds very interesting. I understand how there are more pressing issues on your drawing boards already but this is something I will be happy when it comes. Even if it takes a little bit understandably.
  6. Im mad I missed the Canada v US womens hockey game. Sounded like one heck of a game.
  7. Thanks for the info! Maybe I just get a little antsy and don't wait for more surpressing fire. Also, sorry if this was off topic for this forum.
  8. No sorry, from the old CMBB days. And to a lesser extent just getting any squad up close when needed.
  9. Sorry if this has been brought up or discussed to death, but I really miss that handy little info box that came up if you selected a unit and hit Enter if I recall. Any thoughts to bring that back?
  10. Whats the best way to get them in the fight without smoke? Lets say there is an enemy platoon 100m away with open field crossing. I have tried to pin them with covering fire from other squads but the SMG squad usually gets cut down or dead tired before reaching them. How does one go about not running these units to death?
  11. In Deadly Combat and The Forgotten Soldier are two of my favorite books. About once a year I read them both and will have to agree that they are absolute must reads regardless of any historical qualms about them.
  12. I do miss the CMBO type spotting tool. But I understand how it was questioned and have grown accustomed to using the 'target" button to see what my pixeltruppen can fire at and what is blocking them.
  13. Great article. Shows how strong you guys have been in this industry when even huge publishers and best selling game studios are closing. So glad all the hard work you guys have done has paid off. Thanks for all your hard work, now my love of your games has made my sons of 7 and 3 years old get into wargaming with me.
  14. No problems PhilM Thanks for the help gents, so I guess CMBN and CMFI would be comparable to CMBO and CMBB then, two different games but generally the same? Im having a real tough time getting into CMBN. Guess Im missing stuff I loved in CMBO and all like the line of sight tool (I know I can use the target button) and stuff like the unit info display when you hit enter when you had a unit selected. I liked all the info there. Great game still, just need more practice with it and the bocage is absolutely destroying me.
  15. Thanks I see CW isn't needed for MG, but would it be better to have it before MG?
  16. Hey all I have been away from CM for far too long but bought CMBN soon after it first came out. Since then, the Commonwealth Forces and now Market Garden have been released with Fortress Italy in there as well. Doing a search to try and catch myself up on the order in which they all came out has left me more puzzled than before so now I must ask, probably the 1000 person to ask but.... To get caught up fully, what do I need to do? Like I said I have the first "base"? game CMBN but that's where I ended. Is Fortress Italy apart of it? Different game? And am I wrong assuming that CF is just british and Canadian units (with the SS) in the CMBN maps? Whereas Market Garden is new maps? Its my fault for being away so long, I just don't know what to buy first, I can only buy one at the moment. Sorry if this is a question that has been answered too many times before.
  17. Meaning when lets say the 101st assaulted a town and had AFV support, who reported to who? Did the tanks take orders in battle from the airborne Lts? Or did the tanks have free range to do as they wish and just take the airborne officers opinions?
  18. I still miss playing PE online, those were some great guys playing that game online. What was your online name for PE? Anyone else from that community here? Had some amazingly fun and hectic battles w that community.
  19. I was surfing the net and came across matts page I believe, lead me here right before or after the release of CMBO and played the demo. Chance Encounter to this day is my all time fav map of any game Ive ever played.
  20. I would assume this means AT guns will be more useful. Now I probably never used them totally correctly but in CM1 I was lucky to get 2 kills with an individual gun.
  21. Very good news, i still need to preorder but the mrs. says that the 2 month old needs things. ugh, spoiled already. uhh ohhh think she read that!
  22. Werent many German tanks during Kursk lost due to mechanical failures? Namely the new tigers and pathers. Also i seem to have it in my head that many broke down during the bulge, thinking i read that in "A time for trumpets" maybe? Not just fuel shortages either but bad roads making for overworked machines. Dunno about simulating breakdowns in game, I am bad enough without losing an afv from anything but enemy fire lol
