  1. Steve I think you are exactly right there obviously, but one question has come to my mind as a result of the quality/quantity debate. Since quantity is one of the reasons for allied victory in the war, and quality (mid war) was one way the germans were able to hold on for so long, doesnt it make unit experience more of a strategic element? I guess what i mean is that since each forces unit tactics arent represented is unit experience from regular to crack needed? By the way Im in no way asking for change, just something that crossed my mind.
  2. For chance encounter i always loved trying to win bigger against the ai. Do i rush the shermans up? Do i blast that church or farmhouse with the stugs? But no matter what some variable would change and it would get hairy for awhile
  3. If anyone is in the MN area around July a local hunting preserve puts on a military history day with reenactors from Civil war to Vietnam. Loads of amazing knowledge and pyros from holllywood special effects artists. They actually just filmed a movie there. Will post links if i can
  4. I still think its my favorite map of any game created. Anyone been able to understand why it seems to be the more popular map? All I can think of is that it got me so excited for CMBO to arrive in the mail.
  5. Ive been a lurker here for years and i still love these threads
  6. Let me explain why I wasn't thrilled with a modern day conflict. For one reason the effect of modern day US military equipment. For example GPS satilites that make target aquisition and placement all the more "user friendly." But after reading the CMSF homepage I see that it won't be as big of a deal as I first assumed. You know what they say about assuming things Secondly, where in this modern age do you even try to find an army that could stand toe to toe with the US army on conventional warfare? I never thought in my wildest dreams about a hypothetical Syrian scenario (thats why I'm not a level designer.) But again, BFS proved me wrong and came out with a great idea that actually seems playable from both sides. That is why I had my doubts and that is why I am happy to admit I'M PROUD TO BE WRONG.
  7. Thats a great idea! Can't wait to see how it works out.
  8. I for one would take that challenge. However, I would have to have the game first so I think me and aka_tom_w should get a beta test of the game. No? Sorry Tom I tried.
  9. Starforce is a copy protection that almost certainly ruined thousands of DVD writers, among others one of mine. Note that CDV used Safedisk (not Starforce), which is just a normal "hard" copy protection that the pirates don't notice and honest users posted dozens of problems with in the support forum. </font>
  10. I don't wish to change the subject at all, but what is Starforce? I keep reading about it and all the negative comments but I have absolutly no knowledge of what it is. I have SHIII and haven't had anything bad happen to my computer. (that I know of anyhow.) Sorry to go off topic for a second.
  11. I think the best news about this is the fact that it will improve exposure of the game right away. In my area of the world the wargame department is a little thin to say the least. Most people want the first person shooters it seems. Hated to see the copies of the first three CM sitting on the shelves at the store months after they were on the shelves in more "high traffic" towns.
  12. When I first heard of this game being in development I was a little hesitant. Not that for one minute I doubted the efforts of BTS in making an absolutly great game, but because I didnt think that a modern style game would suit me. I have come to say Im doubting myself once again and Im man enough to say, "it looks like Im going to be wrong." The game looks and sounds absolutly amazing and I cant wait to get my hands on this one. Cant wait to see all the little bones that get thrown to us in the next few months.
  13. Oh one last question. Is there a better terrain block to use? I want a little more green in the grass to represent Normandy, but being more Italy/Africa its more brown. Or is this something I will have to live with?
  14. Can anyone tell me how to get them in the mission builder? Im trying to make some maps and battles based on D-Day and Normandy fighting using the CMAK (better) graphics. I know that they are blocked out because they would have been in Normandy in June of '44; but is there a way to turn off the rarity or something so you can make a map to include them in this time period? If it has been brought up before I am sorry. Search turned up nothing.
  15. Are there any Sherman packs out there for CMAK? I absolutly LOVED what Marco Bergman and Gordon Molek did to the allied AFVs for CMBO. I think the vanilla CMAK vehicle graphics look 100 times better than they did out of the box for CMBO, yet I like to see the little things like packs, shovels, etc hanging off the outsides of the turrets. If any mods have been done like this I would love to know about them. Searching CM Mod Database as we speak but not finding anything. Also, its nice getting them in one download instead of downloading each different sherman varient. This is expecially true for all the varients of the Sherman and on the east front with the T-34s. Thanks guys.
  16. Stupid question Im sure but I dont even know the basics of Soviet Armor of WWII. But what is the difference between the ISU 152 and the SU 152? Is it just the machine gun on the top of the superstructure? They both have the same main gun I see.
  17. Sorry bout the doubleerrrrr......triple post???!? what the .......

  21. I took me a long while to get CMBB. But now that I have I am very glad I did. One thing I have noticed about the difference between CMBB and CMBO is the lack of sites (imo) dedicated to mods, tactics, AARs, etc. for CMBB. I remember when CMBO was new there were hundreds of sites a player could go to, to learn new tactics, look at thumbnail mods, read exciting AARs, and find more scenarios and operations than anyone could play in a lifetime. Just doesnt seem to be the case for the russian front. I know a few sites boots and tracks, the scenario depot, CMHQ, and CM Mod Database. Yet those seem to be the only ones people talk about for CMBB. So if anyone knows any others that are good, please fill me in. FYI if I didnt include your website here please dont be mad, I just havent heard about it yet.
  22. Is it a night battle? How about the weather? Fog, snow, heavy snow, etc. These factors can contribute to units mis-identifying other friendly units as enemy. Also I believe that experience level affects their spotting ability but if I am wrong please correct me someone.
