  1. So in other words I need to get the grid terrain for both grass and steppe? I cant get one for all things general? Thanks for all the help guys.
  2. Yes they are all great tips and already paying dividends for me. Thanks all. One last thing, are there any good terrain grids out there? I have seen some but Im confused. The ones I have seen say "for high res grass" or "for high res steppe" does this mean they only work on those terrains and not on say scattered trees or tall pines?
  3. New to CMBB but I have been playing CMBO since the early days. With CMBB and the very much larger maps halftracks are actually useful now. Problem is, I dont really know how to use them. For example in the Stalingrad Pack battle "Into the Void" you start off with lots of infantry in halftracks to cover the huge open fields. But all my halftracks get pretty well shot up before they get to where I want them to be. I have all my tanks in overwatch positions but even then the enemy at guns still get off quite a few shots because there are so many of them. Also, the ones who do make it to where I want them to be seem to be too close I guess and my infantry who disembark get shot to pieces. So any tips would be greatly appriciated in how to use halftracks with infantry. How far away should I unload my troops? What should I do with the halftrack after the troops are unloaded? etc...
  4. Ok looks like I got everything now. 2 subfolders called SP-QB_Maps and SP-Scenarios. Now I take it I unzip all the contents of both those files to my scenario folder in CMBB?
  5. K I will download it again and keep ya in touch.
  6. OK I downloaded the Stalingrad pack and I just installed all the files to my scenario folder right? They show up as operations but Im not really sure which ones to play in order even after reading the documents provided. I cant seem to find the battle name of the first battle the docs say to play. Sorry if its a stupid question.
  7. A question within a question here but I guess I was wondering how many people it took to carry the tripod. Was it just one big heavy thing that one many carried while the others carried the gun and the ammo? Or was it a base that a couple guys carried at once and had to be put together? Sorry Rudy for posting a question within yours.
  8. I love the job BTS has done with the CM series. Great games. I was reading an old review of CMBO on gamespot.com and they were talking about how after CMBO the developers wanted to go into the eastern front, north african front and the early war years. So that leads to my question. I know that they are now going to start working on the new game engine for CM, so does that mean the early war is not going to be covered? I have been gone from the boards for a few months so I havent seen any official posts. Im excited with whatever game they come out with, early war would be cool. Yet so would a new game engine starting back at the western front.
  9. ...its not here yet! Im so mad. I ordered it like....5 minutes ago. Just kidding BTS. Actually I just want to know from all the helpful guys and gals out there where the best places to download some CMBB mods are. I (of course) have already checked out CMHQ, but I like to check out lots of different mods to see which one is the "mod for me." Thanks alot.
  10. I believe it also involves the guns stand. The Light MG I think has a bipod while the heavy MG has a tripod. The tripod of course is much heavier than the bipod which allows the gun to be fired with less recoil. Allowing the shooter to keep the target in the sights a little easier. But dont quote me if I am incorrect.
  11. Now this may be a spoiler for those who havent played it (cant think of anyone who hasnt though but just in case.) Weird thing happened. While playing this operation I was the Americans ordered to hold the town. I did this very easily even though I gave the AI a bonus and everything. Now I am not a great CMBO player. I was very surprised how easily it was to hold this town. All the Germans seemed to do was try to push into the town with their AFVs and no infantry support. I maybe saw 2 platoons worth the whole operation. After the battles were over and I looked at the map to see if maybe my arty had broken all the Germans I was surprised to find them sitting in foxholes about 150-200 meters away from the town. A few squads had very minimal casualties. Why didnt the AI even attempt to take the town with its infantry? Like I said they just tried to roll tanks and guns into the town which I picked apart one by one with my platoons of Shermans and M10s. Heck even the Stuarts did some good. My total losses were 3 AFVs total. Whereas the computer had lost all AFVs but two Tigers that became immobile on the other side of the map.
  12. Thanks for all the posts with the info. I think I will go with CMBB for the moment because A) Will learn the moves better with the more in depth manual and Patches and Mods more available at the moment with CMBB. I will get CMAK soon, just at the moment with X-mas here I only have enough money to spend on myself for one game. I really want to get the bundle pack but ohh well. I'll get CMAK soon. Once again thanks for all the posts.
  13. Ok here is my problem. I have just enough money to buy 1 game. So my question is which one do you all think I should buy. I have CMBO, so I am torn between CMBB and CMAK. Played the demos for both and I love them. Neither will run any better or worse on my system and I am not any more "into" the war in Russia or the war in the desert and Italy. They both intrest me greatly. So from the people who have both, what the the pros and cons of each one? In your opinions of course. No one is right or wrong.
  14. Thanks guys, my next question was going to be about if I put them in my CMBO BMP folder. I have downloaded all the rulesets and quite a few mods and I think I have the jist of how it works and exactly what it does. Thanks for all the help. I guess the only thing I wish it had was an icon telling you what mod you had installed and working at the moment. All it tells you is what mods you have. But a great program non the less.

For example I am getting everything for CMBO (wrong forum Im sorry but its started here) anyhow, how come even though I have only downloaded one mod (for the jeep) other mods are also colored in but I cannot select them? Sorry Im not using tech terms but Im very computer stupid lol. Any help is greatly appriciated.
  17. Ive read the newbie thread post and looked on CM HQ site but Im still a little confused by this CMMOS. Is it sort of like EAW Stab? I guess thats the closest thing I could compare it to but I just want to be sure. Thanks for all the help.

    Trench War

OK finished the game. Well the time limit ended with me capturing Moscow. My losses were: 19 Land units 2 air 7 naval While the Allieds losses were: 140 land units 15 air 9 naval Id like to add that of the land losses for the allied were: Monty HQ, Zuhkov HQ and two other russian HQs. I ended up breaking through in the south when my tech advances in air and tank and anti tank finally allowed me to take less losses so less money went into repair and more went into buying more air units. FYI ROCKETS ARE DEFINATE TRENCH BUSTERS!! The US never made more than two attempts to get onto Europe. They were content with filling every hex on North america with units. I suppose after I destroyed their battleships they were hesitant to cross with transports unprotected. I didnt try any other strategies just the same thing I was going at before. But it was the fact that when I wrote the post before I had JUST gotten 5 for everything other than maybe rockets. Just needed some time to bleed the russians out.

    Trench War

Yep I have 4 HQs up and down the line. I try to soften up the defense with my level 5 jet fighters and it works to an extent but what hurts me most is once I do dislodge an enemy unit from a hex I dont have much to fill the gap. All my MPPs have gone to reinforcing units holding the line so I dont get to build any new units much. I have been trying to get their HQs with my long range jets but so far I have only destroyed 2 of them. I believe once they are gone they are gone. But they have gotten smarter and now all their HQs are out of range and I have no idea where they are. Fog of War is on. I know I will not lose this war; but I am pressured now to win it. It is july 44 so I am starting to run out of time. Still no American threat on the west front. I dont feel that I will ever have to worry about them.
  20. Having the game difficulty set at default (medium) playing as axis I have been stalemated. After taking Poland, Low Countries, Denmark, France, and the UK (just before the US and Russia joined the fight) I am not stuck fighting a trench war in the east while keeping the US out of the fight with subs and two Italian battleships. I have only taken two russian cities. The two most southern ones Sevestpool and the one before it that I cannot think of right now. And the two mines north of Sevestpool. (sorry bout spelling?) My tech is at 5 along with heavy tanks, jet fighters, long range fighters, anti tank weapons, and subs. While my rockets are at 4. Anyone have any ideas on how to break this russian line? they mostly have corps and armies but I think they have anti tank weapons to about level 3 or 4. MPPs for me and russia are about the same 440 or so. when they attack I spend mpps building my units back up and the same goes for them when I attack. Its July 44 and the line hasnt changed much since june of 41. Drop some ideas for me if ya got some.
  21. Ohh well since you live there yeah we better have it in. Ohhh its big too....ohh ok. Guess we should also have the city of Chicago because my grandmas friends cousins college roomie lives there and its also a big city.
  22. Not bad ideas. However the commando one is a little too small scale for this game. Corps is the smallest unit I believe. Spies...well its interesting to say the least I guess. Wouldnt bother me with or without them in future installments Enigma...I like that idea. Only problem is didnt the germans use enigma for more than just subs? If I can remember correctly Blechley Park (spelling?) had been cracking the enigma code and actually knew about the impending german offensive in December '44. I dunno maybe it was another code? Interesting ideas none the less. Better than most I have heard. ohh one last thing. The nuke idea wouldnt be very fun because everyone would spend all their MPPs to get a nuke and just would be a spending fest. IMO.
  23. also how many hexes do you concider coast? I mean, are you saying that you cant even load your troops onto transports before you declare war or just the people who have the transports ready to disembark their troops after declaring war? This rule doesnt bother me either way. Surprise attacks were a part of all wars, but I can see why this may be concidered gamey since you cant get a neutral country ready for war at all.
  24. Thats what I assumed too. I will GLADLY say heck with the demo as long if it slows the full version at all.
  25. Sorry guys did a search but no real answers came up. Is there going to be a demo? the way it looks is no since the release date is going ot be annouced "very soon." Dont need a demo but it would be nice to be able to play the game while I wait for my order to come in when its announced. Great job BTS. CMBO is awsome...CMBB looks to be even better.
