If it is any consolation to anyone, Leonardo left behind a huge backlog of unfinished (and never begun) works, and constantly reproached himself for this fault in his journals.
Christopher Hitchens relates (perhaps apocryphally) that 'whenever [Leonardo] tested a new quill, he would scrawl the same unhappy inquiry: “Dimmi, dimmi se mai fu fatta cosa alcuna” (Tell me, tell me if anything ever got done).'

You want pie-in-the-sky wishlist stuff where I had an expectation of getting 0 out of 24, this was mine. But what I wasn't expecting was that features would be taken away!

    Noted on 3rd party mods.
I completely disagree re 'scope creep' though, given that independent buildings have been standard issue with all other new generation CM games. Several could be dropped right in from CMBS and CMFI with no texture work (Northwest Syria is *very* Mediterranean).
I mean, BFC has already done the work. Why not make it available, even if it doesn't appear in the repackaged content from SF1? The thick-walled village church (mosque) and the small flimsy (cinderblock) sheds and barns (which nonetheless block LOS) are *major* advances over CMSF1 for those of us who care about designing granular battlespaces in urban, village or industrial  areas.  As opposed to dropping random buildings on a map footprint and pretending that's a 'town'.
They gave us the tools back in 2011, and now they're taking them away? cuz they can't be arsed or got burnt out fiddling with highway overpasses or sumfink?*
And if those bog standard features are *not* in fact easy to drop in, why the heck not? Did BFC outsmart itself with this whole Families thing?
    * not dissing the highway overpasses, btw.

Yeah, Canada has produced some good journalism. I remember Barbara, Alan and the 1970s "As It Happens" crew, long distance dialing the palace of (entirely mad) Idi Amin or the occupied Tehran embassy.  Back when Canada was still viewed as a neutral country.
(This thread has really gone off topic into current affairs at this point btw. I am one of the guilty.)

You can work up a variety of decent looking modern office buildings using the long window facade with no balconies. The doors to nowhere won't function.

Now that I have wrapped up my thread - I'm just starting to read this. Cool
Kind words in deed - Guess where I learned a lot of my techniques? That's right from @Bil Hardenberger . Bil has been raising the bar on tactics since the beginning. I read his posts carefully and his blog too. Thanks Bil

For such a short period of time it is impossible to create a tank, T-54 in the series went after 5 years, T-64 in 15 years. At the same time first tank was created in the years of WWII and after the war time, and the second tank during the Cold War, which could grow at any time during the hot phase. I can conclude that nowadays it takes more time for the future serial tank. And secondly, as it was already said, modernization better justifies the combined environment, while the modernization potential will not be exhausted.
I myself spent a great time on BMP-2 as a gunner, and then platoon and company commander. The combat vehicle needs to replace ammunition and sights that meet modern requirements and it will get a second wind. Battle module "Berezhok" as an example of possible modernization.

I think the cease fire is appropriate, Bil. Unless you have one hell of a lot of arty or can mass zerg rush the Leos somehow, the next guys to stick their noses up seem pretty likely to get the same medicine.
I was suprised at Ian having liberty to set up so far forward and have his tanks' right flank semi-shielded by the map edge. It made for a very 'tight' battleground in spite of the map size. To me, it had a Prokhorovka feel, i.e. the moment you crest out of your starting positions and get eyes on you're already in deep kaka. Recon by death doesn't benefit you if you don't then have the hammer to hurt him.
And that's typical of the "damned if you do/don't" conundrum the Syrian mech always faces on the attack.
A meeting engagement, forcing both sides to scramble and deploy, might have made for a more even match.

Cheers fella.....All strictly tongue in cheek, I hope to raise a smile with this, not cause any offence.
Thought I'd finally finished the mapping of Trumpton itself, but I did my usual stupid trick of exiting without saving.....So I've got a bit of restoration to do then it's adding the rest of the flavour objects, there will be literally thousands of them when I'm done (it's into the hundreds already)!  Consequently although it's only a small map it may take a while to load, hopefully it'll be worth it once you are in there.
I'd very much appreciate it if anyone who does feel 'triggered' by this would kindly keep their thoughts and comments to themselves.....There are plenty of sites for political quibbling, but this isn't one of them.

Here again, I think folks are getting jumpy and starting to stomp all over criticisms and "demands" that just ain't there. I personally am just spitballing. And it seems like S2 is just in the space of "woulden it be nice?" too (I'll let him speak for hisself).
Those dam' Kraut infiltrators are everywhere! Quick, get that baseball trivia going to flush 'em out!

    1. But this is a One Percenter playground!  Mass transit in America is strictly for the unwashed. While the property manager provides employee minibus transport for 2 hours each way to Mopetown, the pickup point is on a back road out of sight, by the dumpsters. Look for all the cigarette butts and opioid foil packets.
    2. The "hospital" is actually the corporate  offices of a health insurance provider (although largely vacant since most back office functions were outsourced to  Hyderabad).

Progress to date: Camou applied. Plus the tanker was given Turkish pattern fatigues and a CVC helmet. Very different indeed from the default German vehicle.

No worries, BG. Every participant in this discussion has made great contributions and is worthy of respect. And we know nobody is working harder right now than the beta testers.

The wish listing aside, I think some of the frustration may stem from finding out some of the 4.0 engine isn't making it into SF2 (and it spilled out here) Independent buildings being a major one.  Any terrain features, buildings, etc. left out are more things that will hobble and limit designers. Other than that it's just a normal day of b****ing on the forums that could've been more tactful in its delivery.
It's very much appreciated. I personally would've hated it. Just look how long RT and BS have been without any new forces. That wasn't meant as a jab, just a statement. All us SF1 guy have already been down that road once, so it's nice to know we won't be walking it again. That's one of the reasons I don't look as forward to CM3 as I should, is knowing how long it took us to get here with all the games and modules at 4.0.

For what it's worth Steve, I think that's absolutely the right commercial decision. A piecemeal release won't get the results you need, and have richly earned.

A lot of people strawmanning and talking past each other here, and then the usual dismissive hand waving pile-on. And as a special bonus,  longstanding community contributors become dogs pooping on the carpet.  Nice. [Slow clap]  OK, I think this has run its course.
Best of luck with the release, BFC.
