  1. You're welcome Fate  Hope you enjoy. An answer of your question regarding calculation of victory points or scoring in Ops you might find here : HEY BTS! A Frustrated Scenario/Operations Designer Speaks Out! (Constructively)
  2. Hey, the game is indeed not a perfect sim of battleconditions, but that flaw is compensated by the one minute turn base system that delays your reaction on imminent threads. On the other hand when you speak about micro-management, what about the fact that every unit in real time can decide for itself whether to go in hiding, sneak in that building, look for a hull down positon, while you as a player in CM have to determine what immediate action each unit under your command should take and plot that down in consecutive moves. I don't spend much time on general strategy, but on the other hand I try to plot extensively when my infantry meets e.g. enemy in the woods. A well plotted deployment can decide on the outcome of that bushfight. And I - as a player-commander need time for that - while in real time conditions, the men would make up their minds for themselves simultaneously. You make sound it like the player, that is faster with the mouse, is a better CM player, while I guess it was just the goal of CM to avoid that click skills decide on winning or losing.
  3. Stoffel mentioned already the Switchback Operation which was extensively tested, but you have to be prepared to take heavy casualties and reorganize your forces at the start of each new battle. If you would like to try out a big beast and at the same time decide about the choice of your forces, suggest you have a look at the Clervaux Operation map. You choose your own forces and look for an opponent that will do the same, I am willing to put the units on the map in the set up zone or fill up the reinforcement slots with your purchases. See for further details how to play this kind of game and the description, my web page at the link below. [ August 11, 2002, 05:34 PM: Message edited by: McAuliffe ]
  4. I suppose everyone has is preferences, but when opposites meet, you better quit. Anyone remembers that post of the Capt about that grog engaging the C&C adept. I like playing TCP/IP - with no time limits - because of the satisfaction of an instant outcome of your decisions. No sleepless nights "did I made a good move by inching that Sherman to the crest of the hill?" But as soon as my opponent starts barking after a couple of minutes : "Can I get a beer from the fridge", I prefer to call it off. No offense, but I like to enjoy the game. I watch the movie over and over. e.g.: I just enjoy watching that Panther creep over the hill or when suddenly you hear at the far side of the map a ricochet on one of your tanks, but the gun did not reveal his position yet, I try to watch over and over the movie in order to find out what direction that shot came. I prefer also to play bigger battles where the outcome of the battle does not depend on losing or keeping your übertank you spent all your points on. The lack of the "follow the leader group command" forces you to switch to PBEM when you are playing scenarios or QB over 3.000 pts a side. I want to take Legend42 on in every larger battle and see if his fast play pays off. And as GenSplatton already pointed out, lot's of PBEMmers have several battles going on at the same time. They are able to finish as well 10 battles in 3 weeks where the TCP/IP player may get the same score if he plays a complete battle every 2 or 3 days. 5. oh my God... Tiger had already a go at it, but these look outstanding...must have Here is a pic of the captured KT 204 at La Gleize. The Americans had a test drive with it, but it broke down a few hundred yards down the road.. [ August 07, 2002, 06:53 PM: Message edited by: McAuliffe ]
  6. You're sure you didn't toggle the "I" key ?
  7. Magua's rural buildings (winter and summer) are still available on my web page. Go to the mod section
  8. Now we're at it... I downloaded some german uniforms and now 1 or 2 out of 3 guys in my squads seem to have "white hair" What orignal BMPs would restore the haircolours ?
  9. Guess it's permitted to do some shameless plugging... see below... and give them a review at the Scenario Depot
  10. For good order, would like to point out that the mocked up Panther aka Sheep's clothing Mod is 100% work of Clubfoot . I only got his permission to use his mod in a pic on my web page. I made a scenario about Skorzeny's attack on Malmedy. In the description page of the scenario you can find a link to Clubfoot's mod page and B/W pics of the wrecks of a Panther and a StuGIII disguised as M10 TD's. AFAIK, Clubfoot only modded the Panther, so someone can still have a go at the StuG
  11. A..W..E..S..O..M..E.. Bookmarked it immediately, great job!
  12. Don't have the book, but can help you with some maps. Chaumont is a small hamlet south of Clochimont and Assenois. Look here for the location on a 1:100.000 modern topomap : Bastognemap and here for a detailed 1:25.000 topomap : Chaumont
  13. A link was included in the Malmedy description page, but you can try here : Clubfoot's SSM Pack 1 Joshik : Thanks for the kind words, hope you enjoy. [ July 24, 2002, 01:00 PM: Message edited by: McAuliffe ]
  14. Hi Go over to my web page, look up the Malmedy Scenario and click description...et voilà I put also a screenshot up of a disguised Panther tank in CMBO... thanks and credits to clubfoot
  15. I agree with Lt. Bull that it would be a good feature to have a preview of the map and the story line behind the scenario. On my web page, I try to include this feature in order that players can make up their mind whether or not a particular scenario fits their needs. I created topviews and screenshots of the map and give a description of the parameters. (see e.g.: the clickable Clervaux map.) You can already look at the location of VL's, size and natural obstacles you have to deal with. The Scenario Depot too did a good job to include previews. It would be great if the briefings could include pictures or military topomaps that explain your mission (ever been to a military briefing without a map ?)
  16. Henk, I will try it out and play you if you would only finish our last battle first...
  17. I know this was discussed before, but seem not be able to retrace. I lost a bunch of the CMMOS bmp's and I want to reinstall all of them again in order to be sure sure I don't miss any of them or at least my favourites. Is there a way to download the mods via a FTP program instead of downlading each file manually with the "save target as" menu. What address should I put in the remote link box ? Thanks
  18. If you're tired of playing that same scenery in Quick Battles, go to the link below and download some historical maps of the Bulge based on topographical 1/25.000 scale maps and personal visits. Ask a 3rd. party to put your choice of units on the map and let him send this set-up to your opponent. In the description section you can look at some preview screenshots and a topview of the map. I included also some advice how to use the maps. Following Maps are included : Clervaux : Advance Operation Map! Longvilly : A very huge battle map, meeting. Dasburg : Medium map, fight for the control of the river crossings, meeting. Kalborn : Attack / Defense map. All a.m. maps depict battle grounds during the advance of the Panzer Lehr division during the "Wacht am Rhein" operation in December 1944 Hope you enjoy. 19. Hey Stoffel, long time no hear, no see. I am BoB'er too...and the scenario is about the BoB, so send me the set-up
  20. Guess it depends a bit on your preferences, but I like big scenarios with at least battalion-size infantry forces and company size armor units, big maps with several options of tactics or approach. I need at least half an hour for the set-up (By that time the tcp/ip connection already crashed twice) then I need probably an hour to finish the first turn plotting, as I plot for each unit the whole stretch from start to their final target. I use a lot of waypoints in order to be flexible in making changes afterwards. (Then, when I hit go, I usually discover that the other guy has already dissapeared) When finally the games picks up, I just alter slightly the waypoints or adjust speed. So, a good solution would be, I start the game in PBEM and after the initial turns you switch to TCP/IP. But most of the people prefer to play either PBEM or TCP/IP
  21. Hope I can help, I've just sent you an e-amail, Ted
  22. Unfortunaly there are not much online topographical map resources about the Western European Theatre. I have put a couple of links up on my site Tip and Tricks of CM Scenario Design where you can find some info on the areas covering the Siegfried line or The Netherlands. For other areas you have to address the National Institutes or contact Martin "Moon" Turewicz at Games of War for the historical maps.
  23. I will open the list : Cintheaux-Totalize and if you do not believe me, read the comments at the Scenario Depot. Ooh...of course, I use this post as a shameless plug for some scenarios on the site below, but I guess you'll have to check each one on playability
  24. mmmh, If you're still there, on the 1st. of May, you could be in for seeing some streetfighting too.
  25. Hi Agua, Thanks for the kind words. I indeed dropped the scenario, as I could not get the map looking "right". Due to the limitiations of the editor, every attempt of creating a larger town with small climbing streets, doesn't give the satisfaction I hope for. Maybe with Tom's upcoming "town mod", I will give it another try. Secondly, the gameplay is very poor, as the scenario is actually over once the bridges have been blown. I will send you the unfinished scenario, If you have good sources, you can make maybe a what-if scenario of it and I am willing to testplay. Anyway, I am planning to make another section on my site with "unplayable senarios" but of which, I think the maps are interesting.
