  1. From Narratives by Historical Officer Capt. Franklin Ferriss : Above explains more or less the presence of the mix of 57 mm AT Guns, 76 mm towed TD's and 90 mm AA guns at Stoumont.
  2. Because, by the time the allied forces reached Bergamo, the war was over. Hey Junk! Stop following me everywhere I live(d). First you post pictures of Belgium and now you post a picture of mountains just a couple of clicks away from where I live right now. I do enjoy your barbed wire mod though.
  3. Some more pictures of Belgian countryside: Panorama's Hey! they took even a picture of my former dwelling: The shack on the lefthand side, that is
  4. here's another one More images of Wallonia (South Belgium)
  5. Netherlands : Aerogrid WWII aerial pictures of Arnhem, Nijmegen, Eindhoven... Flanders (North Belgium): click dark green area for aerial pictures Real estate site with search engine for aerial picture of every town in North Belgium On line topographical map of Belgium 1:25.000 More aerial pictures of Belgium: Fill in name of place or town. More to come
  6. Thanks junk, nice work. Now my 82nd Airborne troops will have to face some true rusty Belgian barbed wire fences before entering Cheneux...
  7. Hi Michael, Although I don't understand not even the general idea of what you are trying to put together, I am willing to offer some assistance and input wherever I can. Since I grew up in the area and remembered my father telling about the fierce fighting in the woods north of Antwerp, I have been reading and tried to find some information on the forces involved. Unfortunately, local accounts give only very few details about the equipment and units. The best you can hope for are descriptions like: "units of the Dutch SS" resisted or "heavy fire" of "German tanks" pushed back "the Canadians" there and there. Don't forget that the Germans actually put in line remnants of what had escaped from France. A big part had been trapped in the Breskens pocket and were only able to escape by crossing the Scheldt Estuary at Flushing, leaving their armor and heavy weapons behind for the defenders of the pocket. The survivors reached the mainland via the South Beveland Ishtmus, only to be recuperated by 'group' Chill that initially only consisted of a batallion of Paratroopers or so who had to defend the acces to the Isthmus, the only escape route for the Germans. As more Germans were able to escape (The allies where focusing on Arnhem) Battlegroup Chill could reinforce but it consisted of bits and pieces that were recovered of other units. I tried to make some CMBO scenario's for this forgotten episode. The Operation Swithback (Breskens Pocket)you can find on my homepage. I have also somewhere a scenario depicting the dramatic attack near Woensdrecht of the Black Watch on Friday October...the 13th. Anyway I will try to dig up some topomaps. But bear in mind that the whole area has changed dramatically, due to the expansion of the port of Antwerp .
  8. Thanks Junk, I will give it a try this evening. I don't know about use of wooden fences in Russia or the desert, but in the places where I lived/live(Belgium / Switzerland (border Italy), I didn't/don't see any. So I wonder why they included wooden fences in CMAK. They should have implemented poles with barbed wire in the first place. Regarding gardens around houses, people used walls in agglomerations and- mostly beech -hedges in the more rural places. The more wealthy ones had sometimes hand forged wrought iron fencing placed around their garden. That would make a nice mod too (thinking of modding tall hedgerows)
  9. Okay...Pzman an DEY are right! I didn't know about this new feature, thanks! But how come that you can group select and move groups using the menu via the space bar without switching sides by clicking ALT GR + \ ? (FYI, that's apparently the HOTKEY for PC's) What are you telling me, it's by design !?...Who were the beta testers? can I sue them ! No, on a serious note, what real world example inspired BFC to include this behaviour?
  10. I am a little bit confused now. Is this a mod for the wooden fence of CMBB/AK or is this a modded hedge from CMB0? Since I am converting some of my CMBO scenario's into CMAK - Thanks Pyewacket ! - a CMAK version would do for the time being. Maybe when I want to see some King Tiger's creeping through the Ardennes forest again, I will be longing for a CMBO version. [ October 18, 2004, 03:50 PM: Message edited by: McAuliffe ]
  11. Where can I find that fence mod with barbed wire showing on the screenshot at your NW Europe Mod page? Thanks McA
  12. Don't know if the SHIFT+\ helps in this case. I encountered this problem too and I use now instead of right clicking the mouse, the space bar and select from there the move/place command applying to the whole selected group. Definitely a bug, or maybe they have changed indeed the procedure since CMBO/CMBB and I am not aware. Talking about bugs, I experienced many times -actually always - that when the tacAI plots waypoints along a road lined with scattered trees, the vehicles tend to hug the road edge and end up in the scattering trees, resulting in very, very slow advance. Would like to know if this was developped intentionally, because it makes it almost impossible to design scenarios where the AI should attack. The AI-armor doesn't make it to the frontline, before the the last turns of your scenario have elapsed. It's also very frustrating when you count on the AI to plot for you the waypoints along a road, to see that your vehicles get stuck in the scatterd trees. Another inconvience of the present AI is, that fast moving vehicles tend to miss their turns and end up on the roadside in serious trouble. I am a bad driver myself, but I do think that drivers should have the reflex of slowing down before taking a turn , even when the commander told him to move fast and this should not be penalized by extra waypoints (=delays) I apologise if above was already addressed. 13. Humble plugging of the "Switch back" operation avalable at my CMBO homepage. Maybe I will convert it in a CMAK operation, but not sure if we have wasps available in CMAK.
  14. I just have sent the conversion tables for mirorring CMAK maps horizontally and vertically to Pyewacket. We just need someone who volunteers for the CMBB and CMBO mirroring conversion tables, if there is a need to.
  15. Hey Thanks! Pyewacket. I downloaded immediately and tested from CMAK to CMAK. And guess what... Something happened, we probably both didn't anticipate. The map is mirrored -which works great, but the orientation of the tiles is not inverted. For woods, grain, water, rough, brush, etc... this is not important, but for road tiles and houses, this can make a difference. e.g. a diagonal road tile from SE to NW is well transposed to the other side of the x- resp. y -axis, but it's orientation stays SE-NW. Probably I have to fiddle with the tile conversion tables. But are there CMAK>CMAK conversion tables? Hey, I can live with it, it asks only for some minor changes to the map most of the time and if necessary, I can do conversion CMAK >>CMBO/BB>>CMAK Its still a great tool! Come to think of it. I don't know how the programs works, but it look like some repetitive macro operating thing. Could it be applied also for giving orders in the game? Like plot waypoints for vehicle 1 ...copy waypoints to vehicle 2. You can already see, what I am getting at ...
  16. Guess you should better address a Morrocon national, as more then 2.000 Tiralleurs Marocains died in order to stop the Germans in their tracks and even pushed them back. All in vain since south of Namur, Rommel had already beaten the French. Not the most glorious episode in the French military annals.
  17. It works like a charm. Many thanks Pyewacket, I was able to convert a number of my CMBO maps into CMAK-maps. One question though. Just as for the conversion tables for the tiles, is it possible to replace the X,Y co-ordinates of the converted maps in order to change the orientation. iow. instead of having the map starting at the lower left corner, e.g.: X2(0)=X1(0), Y2(0)=Y1(0), where X2 is the x-co-ordinate 20 m square of the converted map and Y1 is the x co-ordinate of the source map and Y2 and Y1 are the co-ordinates of the 20m squares of the resp. converted and source map . Can you then transpose the map and starting at X2(n)=X1(0), Y2(0)=Y1(0) next step of the iteration should be then: X2(n-1)=X1(1),Y2(0)=Y1(0)... until X2(0)=X1(n), Y2(n)=Y1(n) inversing the orientation from W to E to E to W in above example? Thanks
  18. Cannot help you with informaton on the confrontation, but if you're looking for detailed topomap go here : NGI.be Fill in the name of the location- e.g. Hannut -in the box visualiser une localité and click GO A separate window will pop up with the name of the location in hyperlink. Click the hyperlink and the map will be retrieved of the area. Zoom in to 1:20.000 -25.000 at your convenience.
  19. The Wouwse "Plantation" was actually created by a Belgian "Baron" who made fortune in the Congo during the 19th. century.. He built a little "castle" and soon other people started to settle nearby. (sawmill, forge, bakery, laundry etc..) A description of the area you can find here: Wouwse Plantage Het bos is opgebouwd uit relatief kleine bospercelen met verschillende bostypen. Deze bostypen worden afgewisseld door tussengelegen landbouwgronden. Enkele oude lanen doorsnijden het gehele terrein. Bij elkaar leidt dit tot een aantrekkelijk en afwisselend bosbeeld. I found also an interesting detailed map of the area here: map of Wouwse Plantage Please note the "woeste gedeelte" on the map. This so called "wild area" contains sand dunes of up to 20 meters high (see Bergvlietse Duinen) and some moors. The area is now turned into a golf course which has claimed a large stock of golf balls with my name on it...
  20. Hi Can anyone point me out to an overview of the ranges of visibility for each of the parameters settings and theatre/soil in CMAK. Ideally I look for a visibility range of 500 m for my new scenario, but cannot find the right combination. Thanks
  21. Try this link De Woonomgeving Unfortunately, comments are in Dutch: In order to locate 'Wouwse Plantage'. I suggest you start by clicking "Provinciaal Niveau" and move map southwards with the arrows until the center is somewhere between Bergen-op-Zoom and Roosendaal. (near Belgian Border, North of Antwerp) Select "straat niveau" and try to Locate Woensdrecht (military airfield). Wouwse Plantage is a couple of clicks to the east. Once you found the location, you can zoom in until a topograhic map unfolds. You can choose present representation or a map of ...1832 Good luck. I know the area quite well, It's basically flat, but some sand dunes remain from the times, the sea was much more further inland. Lot's of forest patches with tall conifers alternated with heather and moors. Good Luck
  22. Hi, Sorry for the late reply, I had to dig up my password in order to log in again under same handle. BTW. Thanks for the nice comments. I picked up indeed CMAK and I am working on some scenarios regarding the La Gleize - Stoumont Pocket and Stavelot Bridge. Unfortunately, I am too short on free time to test them out. So I will probably just release some maps to the community. Most of you know more about historical OoB's then I do anyway. On the other hand CMAK allows you to import maps into the QB generator. This way, it leaves you the option to play smaller sized battles on historical maps, with your own choice of arms, if you prefer. If you check out the Scenario Talk forum, please have look at the wonderful invention of Pyewacket This add-on will allow you to transform any interesting CMBO map into a CMAK scenario map or operation. I am sure, I will transform a couple of my CMBO scenarios and maps. If anyone interested, I will send some work in progress by e-mail. Thanks
  23. Wonderful..I am speechless. This is the best add-on since ...well uhm... patch 1.12 for CMBO came out I just managed to convert an unplayable CMAK operation into a wonderful scenario within 2 minutes. Unbelievable! 1st request: CMBO conversion, if possible. 2nd. request: inverse orientation of map Why the 2nd. request? Just imagine you have created a great historical map for purpose of importing it in your Quick Battles in order to find out that the QB generator forces you to have the Germans coming from the West, while they should actually come from the East. Great work Pyewacket...didn't see the movie though
  24. HeHe...That reminds me of one of my early CMBO operations : Switchback, which was based on the historical attack by the Canadians over the Leopold canal in Flanders or -better Dutch "Zeeland" -(Breskens Pocket). Spoiler picture here: screenshot credits to Stoffel > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
  25. With all my respect for the veterans but some of these recollections look a bit overcoloured. At Stoumont Station 2 panthers were knocked out by... a sherman, one of them was a fluke shot that ricocheted against the roadbed and penetrated the floor of the panther. A couple of HT's and an ambulance were found abandonned on the stretch from the station to Targnon. Besides, it was not snowing or no snow covered the ground. Actually, it was not that cold. However, at the time of the engagement at the station there was a thick fog. Further to my previous post, I think that indeed no King Tiger took part in the attack of Stoumont on the 19th of December. However in the following days there was fierce fighting around the sanatorium and I recall seeing a picture of a KT firing from a prairie next to the hamlet of Roua in the direction of the Sanatorium. That was what the title of the picture was saying. For sure, I could not recognise the environment as the picture was very blurry and could be taken everywhere. Richie I will send you my projects, glad you will take a look at it.
