Scenario Designers, I need your help
Kingfish replied to Shatter's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Just curious, do any of these units start off in a modified state (Pinned, shaken, weary, etc)? Were they out of C&C? Were they given any orders during those turns? -
If we're going to include horses then I say we also include a 'horse whisperer' unit as well. The sole responsibility of this unit would be to rally 'panicked!' horses back into the front line. For total immersion we can even mod the figure to have Redford's face.

Abandoned Tanks in Operations
Kingfish replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Spanish Bombs: Anyhow, its a day-night-day-night-day-night op, so maybe I'll save the demolition work for the night if I can't finish it during the day.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Don't wait for nighttime, that's when the damaged tanks get dragged for repair. Light 'em up while it's still daylight. You can plink away from a good, safe distance. -
Credit card charged on 8-14-01, no CM yet.
Kingfish replied to corn55's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Corn, Kick back and relax. The game will show up, trust me. In the meantime, to help pass the time away, maybe you and I can fire up a TCP/IP game, or maybe a Wild Bill scenario. In fact, I have this really cool one....oh, nevermind. -
An IDEA For A Tournament-feedback desired
Kingfish replied to Treeburst155's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hmmm... A tourney that forces players to purchase well balanced forces and use realistic, common sense tactics. A tourney where the 'Go for broke' VL rush will more than likely cost you the game. A tourney where force preservation and maintaing an adequate reserve become more important than kill stats. A tourney where a succesful defense today means a better chance for a succesful attack tomorrow. A tourney where a player, used to ordering suicide missions without a second thought, must now think about what the consequences are. Nah...who's going to want that -
Engineers don't need satchel charges to clear daisy chain mines. Just move them next to the DC and they should be removed in a turn or two.

Here is the thread. It's not an Op as I once thought, but still sounds interesting. Looks like you'll need to e-mail the author for it. New scenario
-
Does anyone know where I can get the huge Op depicting the allied assault on the Albert canal? IIRC, it featured the support of 17 wasps. Thanks for your help. Edit: Just found where I can get it. Turns out its not 17 wasps, but 27! [ 08-17-2001: Message edited by: Kingfish ]

Koch-Kalkar Rd operation v1.2 - Where can I find it?
Kingfish replied to Lt Bull's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Moon is the author, and here is his site: Games of war [ 08-16-2001: Message edited by: Kingfish ] -
My request would be to get rid of the amount of info you can get from enemy units, like being able to tell the level of experience of a crew inside a pillbox or knowing how many casualties a squad took in a running fight.

"Wild Bill's Rumblings Of War"- A Tournament

Count me in. Although I don't agree with rule #1, if I can't win a game without it I shouldn't be here. -
Is setting fire to things 'gamey'?
Kingfish replied to rvalle's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I remember reading about the russians, during the 1st Panzer army's drive on Grozny, used several hundred bombers to set alight the forest which the Germans were trying to push thru. What followed was a flurry of radio calls from divisional commanders to Army group 'A' headquarters, complaining about 'Those gamey russian bastards' and threatening to withdraw from the war altogether (although keeping open the option of fighting other countries 'just for fun'). Not to be outdone by the russians, Kleist ordered a huge fleet of Kubelwagons to blitz forward in order to reveal the russian AT guns, while the entire 17th army marched single-file down the Black sea coast in an attempt to flank the russians, all the while having their flank protected by the map edge. Damn, I can't remember where I read that... -
I understand Moon has gotten a hold of some east front maps. Not sure if it's in the area you mentioned, but worth a try.

The Fiery French is not a balanced scenario
Kingfish replied to Runyan99's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
****SPOILER***** * * * * * Wild Bill, One item I would recommend you look at, and possibly remove, is the German AT Pillbox. It doesn't seem to fit in with what was happening in that sector, that of a hasty attack meeting a hasty defense. The whole German southern flank in the pocket was in a state of disarray. IMO, not enough time to construct concrete fortifications, even if they had guessed correctly the anticipated French route of advance. -

Has Anyone ever built a scenario based on....

I have the Wild Bill version. E-mail me if you are interested. -
Abandoned Tanks in Operations
Kingfish replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Abandoned tanks will only return if the Op lasts more than one day, and the chance of them returning varies. If it lasts that long then definetly light them up. Not only does it prevent them from returning, but it looks cool as hell to be in control of the battlefield surrounded by burning enemy tanks -
(South of Carentan): Twilight for GvB

I would like to give it a go as well. Please send it my way, my address is in my profile. Many thanks. -
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Scipio: After thinking about it for a while, this seems to be unlogic. A tank crew was an easy and valuable target when they have left the tank. The don't know about the situation outside of the tank. Wouldn't it be more sensefull to stay in the tank as long as possible?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> And risk being turned into a charcoal briquette, I don't think so. Talk to any tanker, from WW2 to desert storm, and ask them what they fear the most. Guaranteed it's having their vehicle fireball while they're in it.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Philistine: One way to get old threads that you know are there (if you, or someone you know participated) is to use the "search by member #" function. This will list the thread titles that the member has posted in, so at least you can find some of them. --Philistine<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Apparently this doesn't help much either, as there seems to be a problem with the way the search function stores old threads. I just did a search under my member number, choosing the 'any date' option. Since I average a post a day, give or take, I should get hits going back to June of 2000. However, what I got was 2 hits for this month and 198 hits from June thru September of 2000. That means there's about a years worth of posts I can't access. Anyone else have this problem?

Why cant the 88mm Flak Fire at "Jabos"
Kingfish replied to Fieldmarshall's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The 88mm flak was designed to shoot at high flying bombers. You have the 20 & 37mm Flak to deal with the jabos. -
Then there's John and his damn 14" rounds. Nothing like issueing orders to a crack company CO, an entire platoon and a HMG team, then watch them take two steps and *Blink*, they're gone. I'm sure if you were to travel to Lion-sur-Mer today you'll still see the crater in the middle of the town.
