1.
quote:
CMBO never attempted to model any defense more than a hasty one.

Really? I think you need to take another look at the fortification menu. Concrete pillboxes, wooden bunkers, tile after tile of AP/AT mines. Those aren't things you could just whip up in the half hour lull before combat.
 2. WANTED!!! The infamous 'Von Lucke', a member of the notorious 'Section 2 posse', is wanted for crimes against pixels. His last known address is: blane2@Flash.net, although we believe he may be hiding out in the Albuquerque, NM area. If you have any information on his whereabouts please contact us at the address listed below: sc112565@aol.com A free download of the CMBO demo is being offered as a reward for information leading to his capture. Contact your local Fallshirmjager and help put this fugitive behind bars where he belongs. Together we can make Normandy a better place.
 3. Try 'Polder grave' by PeterNZ. You can find it here: Der Kessel
 4. I believe the engine will redraw the map in favor of the attacker, so assuming your paras gain ground, the line will be pushed forward for game 3. I've read numerous accounts of the defenders launching crushing counterattacks, wiping out the opposition and actually pushing beyond the original setup lines, only to be pushed back at the start of the next game.
 5. You're right, it had to be a Finnish pilot. That explains the multiple rockets from one sortie. I've read where Finnish pilots didn't even land to re-arm. They just flew very low over the arfield and the ground crew would lob the reloads up to the passing plane.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Spanish Bombs: And, giving credit where credit is due, Kingfish is the guy who clued me in on the To the Last Man scenario. Thanks.

Whenever you feel like knocking down some buildings just send me the British setup. I played an excellent game against John Kettler and would love to fire that one up again.
 7. They were designed to tackle the Atlantic wall and other fixed fortifications, not as assault tanks in the middle of a fluid battle. For one thing, the petard mortar had to be loaded from outside the vehicle, making the loader vunerable to small arms fire. Using them to take out other tanks would be like using Sextons for recon duty.
 8. Which means that CMBB will be released....When, Moon, when !!???!!! Edited because I'm a complete idiot [ 11-07-2001: Message edited by: Kingfish ]

 9. Rumor has it that BTS will create a game specifically for horse drawn artillery, bicycle mounted infantry and motorcycle recon. It will be called CM:BTL (combat mission: behind the lines) and will feature scenarios like 'moving the artillery' (a convoy of horse drawn artillery moves a battery across a map), 'Troops on the move'(a convoy of bicycle mounted troops move across a map) and 'motor recon' (a group of motorcycle mounted recon units travel across a huge map, sighting an enemy unit, stops to observe for a few minutes, then rides off in search of others). Yawn
 10. I remember reading in 'A fine night for tanks' that Joe Ekins never fired another shot after that. IIRC, he finished the war as a loader on another 'fly. Talk about waste of talent.
 11. Pg. 85 of the manual: "There are two basic types of fighter-bombers in the game. One is equipped with rockets(enough for two passes)... 4 turns of continuous rocket attacks can only mean two aircraft involved.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by jshandorf: I have only played on Operation but one would think that an abandoned vehicle can be recoverd for the next battle of you control the area around it.

Not so in CM. I've killed vehicles that have penetrated my lines only to have them disappear during the night. In one battle I had two Brit para squads on either side of a dead Stug, yet in the next battle the thing was gone. One squad was close enough to spit on the Stug, so there was no way they could have gotten a recovery vehicle in there.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Gyrene: Complete air superiority was nowhere near being accomplished...

Perhaps not complete air superiority, but they were gaining the upper hand on the RAF. The only thing that saved them was the German's decision to turn away from the destruction of the RAF and bomb London. I honestly don't think the RAF could have continued at the pace they were going.
 14. A 1500 pt allied attack, with experience levels set at low, gives the allied player 562 arty points. He can then purchase two green jabos @ 213 each (or two conscripts @ 201 each). He still has 136 (or 160) points to spend on other arty. What experience level was the opposition? Where were the VLs located? What other types of arty did you encounter? What did you eat for breakfast?
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Affentitten: Likewise, bodies lying elsewhere would severely limit the traverse of the turret because the breech of the main weapon needs room to move.

Can't they just load the dead guy into the breech and blow him out with the next round?
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael emrys: The Royal Navy also later trapped and sank a whole slough of German destroyers in Narvikfjord.

Trapped in the fjord with the heavy shells from Warspite screaming in. Can you say 'Fish in a barrel'?
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Gyrene: I'm not too familiar with the Norwegian campaign, how much opposition did the Germans face at the landing sites? Did they secure existing port facilities or did they land over a beach? Gyrene

The Germans went straight for the ports. Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Narvik were all captured on the first day. Norway at the time was a neutral country, and the call up hadn't been issued (or just did), so she couldn't have offered much in the way of resistance. The invasion force did lose the a heavy cruiser in the attack on Oslo, but that was about it.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Gyrene: A huge undertaking, like the invasion of Britain, surely would not be the time for Germany to learn the unforgiving art of amphibious warfare...

The invasion of Britain would not have been Germany's first attempt at amphib operations. The Norwegian campaign was launched with less planning, fewer troops, longer LOCs and against both British and French opposition, yet it was a complete success.
 19. I agree, they should be useless for at least 10-15 turns. Better yet, once shocked the A.I. should take over and withdraw them off the map. Good idea, Cap
 20. Jabos will either use bombs (two in one attack) or rockets (2 attacks of 4 rockets each). They will then strafe 3-4 times. German Jabos will always carry bombs, while the allies can be of either type, with the British more likely to carry rockets. I agree with Juju, you were attacked by two seperate aircraft. How big was the scenario?
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by EricM: OK I maybe wrong about what CMBO calls a Daisy Chain mine but I read in a book about the Battle of the Bulge that what the author called Daisy chain mines were mines somehow attached to each other that were dragged across a road. From what I remember it was for quick road blocks and worked best in a night defense position. When they were used during the daylight it was to cause the Germans to have to send out troops to clear them and slow down the armor. If this is what CMBO models then it would explain why they are so easily spoted. They are just sittin on top of the ground. Eric

You are correct. daisy chain mines
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Holien: Is there any easy way to tell if a map edge is mine or neutral or my opponents. H

Give one of your units a withdrawal order and pan the plot line 360 degrees around the unit. The plot line will turn white whenever it points to the friendly map edge. Once you find out the edge cancel the order.
 23.
quote:
So what's the best guest will CMBB release this year or next?

Released? Don't tell me you're still waiting for your copy.
 24. Not sure of any based on Tank! but there are a few based on A fine night for tanks from the same author. Try 'August bank holiday', 'Cintheaux - Totalize' and 'Halpenny force'. The first two are scenarios, the third is an operation. All are huge battles, so keep that in mind when operating on a low-end system (like mine ) Go here to find the links to their hosting websites: Scenario depot
