Hi, right now I am in the middle of an operation, which shall remain name less as not to spoil it for the rets. Anyway I had 4 Panthers, during an engagment with several Allied AFVs. I knocked out several Shermans, Stuarts and ACs. Anyway there were a few enemy tanks roaming around and 3 of the Panthers got hit. Not at the same time or anything in different turns. Well only their guns got damaged, all 3 panthers got damaged guns. Now here is the problem: I rolled the panthers away fromt the battle (NOT off the map), since they were of no use and don't want to lose them. I hide them and await the next battle hoping their guns will be fixed. When the new battle come around all 3 Panthers are missing, they are gone of the battle field. My 4th Panther is still there, the one that did not get hit. Does this represent them being hauled of to the shop or something? Thanx for the help!

In one tcp/ip game I had I wad defending a village, about medium size. The front of the village was open to enemy fire from a distance, but on the sided it was covered by foresets. My opponent had to advance across 200-400 meters of open terrain, having a brush and scattered trees here and there. Part of my forces included 2 flamethrower teams and a wasp. So I decided to light the entire front of the village on fire, thats exactly what I did. All of the buildings at the front of the village I set alight. When the opponent got to assaulting the village my MGs and guns killed many of his troops before he even reached the village. But he still had at leaset 2 BNs. worth of troops. He kept going toward the village. When he got it his troops were surely tired, but he had no where to hide, the only place he could go was the middle of the town where he can get some cover, but my troops possed almost all the building in the village and I had cross fire from the forest. His troops got slaughtered and Isuffered minimal casualties during this fight. I consider setting forests and building on fire, a sound tactic. I mean a soldier or anyone (execept fire fighters maybe) would not enter a building on fire. So this would deny them acces to cover. The Russians were known for the scorched earth policy in 41, thus denying the germans cover and shelter, so why not here, int he game.

COMBAT MISSIONS: Quality Control ?
Panzer_Meyer replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Manx, Keep the site up no matter what. No matter where you go in the world you will always have morons and idiots who think they are better than you. Best thing is to ignore 'em. Like most people here said, it's your site do what you want, don't let people tell you what to do. If we as people let other people tell us what do with our lives, than you would have no life. So just keep the site up unless you really don't want to put up **** from some idiots. -

Captured/Prisoner Question
Panzer_Meyer replied to Dr. Brian's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Anytime I capture enemy troops I march of off imediatly off the map. Altough only in my deraction, to my map edge behind my lines. You do get points for succesfully marching captured troops of the map, on your map edge. I think. -
Morale -- two questions.
Panzer_Meyer replied to Louie the Toad's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Also, Global morale goes down if you order your troops to withdraw. I am not sure by how much, but it does affect your morale. -
New treebases (actually old) from Wolf!
Panzer_Meyer replied to Wolf^'s topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Wolf, thats amazing, I always wanted a treebase like yours. I find the dark treebases looking a bit out of place to the grass. Any grass, I tried all types of grass and different reebases. The treebases always looked out of place to me. Thanx wolf! [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: Rommel22 ] -

An interesting tidbit from BTS, again.
Panzer_Meyer replied to Enoch's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
This is what I (and others) have been waitng for. Tank crew morale, it is just as important as inf. morale. As I read trough my WWII books, the authors state many times, Russian tank companies backing off. For example, a Russians tank battalion drives on toward a village. The Germans set up several AT guns around the village overlooking the main entry point to the village. The German guns open up on the Russian spearhead, knocking out 5-8 tanks. After seeing their comrade's tanks burning the rest decide to withdraw and return another day. This is exactly what needs to be added, tank crews panicking. Good Job BTS! -
get your name in my scenario!(maybe)

Put me down for Obermeirmisterduberguberuberboober: Rommel22 Or just as a tank! A good one! -
Mace, I know what you mean. I finnished reading "When Titans clashed". On numerous accasions the author mensions how the soviets managed to move entire armies and fronts with out the Germans having the slightess idea. Of course this is in operational level, but it still drops down to squad level. Since each men makes up an army and it is not easy making 10000 soldiers disappear from the fronline wothout someone noticing. Also in other books, "Panzer battles" comes to mind. The author mentions enitire battalion, regiments and brigades, slipping through German lines. And the next morning the Germans were clue less as to where these soviets came from and how they got there. Or establishing bridge heads. The Soviets on accasions managed to astablish a bridge head with out the German knowing a thing. I agree the soviets should have better cammo ability. BUT I think that will be possibly with leader abilities. Like +2 stealth for the platoon leader, the same ability we have now for platoon leaders. So I am not sure extra coding and feature adding for this is a must. Maybe let the soviets have +3 stealth over the other nations. But than again, that becomes a bias issue.

CM2 operations: so many to choose from
Panzer_Meyer replied to Grisha's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Tell me about it. Just reading the book "Scorched Earth", I am half way through. And already I can see myself putting together dozens of scenarios. The amount of scenarios and operations is just endless. And the What If operations and sceanrios, even more. We have 4 1/2 years of war to simulate. There are going to be scenarios made 10 years after the game is released. -
Micheal, I agree, Solute the young Germans (not the nazis, the regular soldiers) who died fighting for their country!!! (that includes my grandpa, so be nice!) I also solute the Russians, they suffered more than anyone in WWII!

Don't tell me any of you don't have 70 bucks to spend once a year on a new video card. Yes, once a year. Once a year a new, good video card comes out and drops in price, and drops other video cards in price. Point being a card that was good last year (GeForce 2) is now about 100 buck or less. I've seen at places for as low as 70 bucks. Now you are telling me you don't have 70 bucks to spend on a new video card, ONCE A YEAR, or maybe once in 2 years.
-
I bought my GeForce 256 a year ago, which cost me only 70 bucks. I haven't checked the price recently, but I bet it's way down. Even a GeForce 2 is now down to 100-150 bucks, which I consider cheap. I am buying the GeForce 3 when it comes down a bit. Right now it's 400, but soon it will drop. By the time CM2 comes out. the GeForce 3 will be at 250 or less. Oh well.
