  1. We're runnnig Red Hat Enterprise. (I thought you would be happy at the prospect of tons of students playing this on local servers.) So, yes, how do you setup a server of your own?
  2. I tried running/installing on a Linux system at my university but ran into to trouble immediately. ./SpaceVikings: error while loading shared libraries: libaa.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Exactly what libraries do I need? We do have rather good computers over here with 3D acceleration enabled. There are also hordes of game eager students with no spare time. Would be a blast to try and max out the number of players. Appreciate any help I can get!

Aha, finally some really good news! It will land right before exams as well, great timing.
  4. I'll have to put in some promo for CMMC2: Combat Mission Meta Campaign 2. Set on the eastern front in september 42; we are portraying a meeting engagement after a Soviet breakthrough featuring ~3 division per side. The operation is focused around rivercrossings/bridgehead ops. The game started out at 0600 in the morning with the sides separated by ~10 km and we have now reached 0900 and operations are in full swing. It's by no means too late to join though. This is a long running campaign and you will have game for months/years to come. Pop in at http://www.cmmc2.org/ to see for your self.
  5. You're not alone in this thinking. It's on BF.C's wishlist for CMX2 but they can't say if it's doable or not yet.
  6. How about frozen conditions? You tend to breath out a lot of water into the dry air then. Any studies regarding optimal water consumption in arctic conditions?
  7. Trust me, you can win this as the soviets. There is a topic on this battle in the Tips & Tricks forum where JasonC lays out some fine tactics for you. Check that out.
  8. The manual is not on the CD but in the CMBB folder. Simple as that.
  9. Very interesting Jason! I have now completed the 100 series quite easily except for the 110 one. What I think I noticed in that one (when it finally cracked) is the value of having one or two squads heads up and stationary. They can then spot at better ranges than a strict advance + hide drill. I'm eager to start on the 200s but sleep is in high demand.
  10. I have played successfully with a regiment(+) attacking a battalion(+) on a 2x2 km map with lots of arty on both sides.
  11. I haven't participated in a TacOps CPX before and it was some time since I played TacOps last time but it does sound interesting. I'm game for a junior role! I do have ample CM experience and also some CPX experience from CMMC2. I'm in Sweden (GMT+1) so the proposed time works fine for me (due to the holidays).
  12. Man that gunner station yourself. That's how I do it. Drive with the number keys and let the commander spot for you. Works like a charm.
  13. I haven't won all of the campaign mission either. The later ones, and some of the earlier ones, are though.
  14. I usually turn on manual range setting in the T-34, I don't recall the keys but it's in the manual. Then you can find the range either by letting the computer display it for you (cheating kind of) or by using the mg as Moon suggested. You can then set the sight for the appropriate range and ammo. I think it's quite fun, and it gives good results.
  15. Operation Flashpoint features SOS IIRC, so it's not unheard of.
  16. Will we be able to re-map the keys? I'm not sure I like to have the commands all the way over by the keypad.
  17. 22 and have been playing since the CMBO gold demo. That old classic of an alpha AAR sold me on this.
  18. Yes, this one is important. Please fix if possible.
  19. Are there any tools for simplifying mapmaking? Like a built in Mapping Mission or something? Otherwise that part will be a pain in the...
  20. Maybe it's only me but I found the first part of this FAQ very helpfull in clearing up a few questionmarks. Thanks!
  21. Hey, I agree with, at least, the five previous posters. It's great fun to play the game at the small level (I hope so at least) at first. And then when hardware and skillz improves one can move on to bigger games where you see tactics at a higher level become relevant.
  22. A seriously big gain in CM must be the turn based system where you compute what happens first, then you display it. Shouldn't that allow for very detailed "under the hood" effects given that RAM can keep it all in memory. The 3D movie is still limited by hardware but you don't have to do any LOS checks then, right?
  23. After playing some T72:BOF you get a real appreciation for how hard it is to both stay hulldown and be able to depress your gun enough to engage the enemy. I would really like to see this modeled. The TacAI would need to be able to deal with it though, so you don't have to check every tank. Even better would be a graphical aid that shows you your engagement envelope, like a transparent pie slice intersecting the terrain (or not, in the worst case).
  24. Now that dynamic lighting has been picked up in this thread: Will the lighting be a purely graphical thing or will it affect the LOS/spotting calculations? As an example: Will you have working flares? Or units spotted from their gun flashes?
  25. We got wheeled vehicles, grenades, slightly off standard TOEs and urban combat. If it ain't WWII it must be something very much like it.
