  1. I agree, this is a really well made movie. I had a bad feeling in my tummy for a couple of hours after watching it (at the theater).
  2. Yeah, specifically the german war machine and even the SS seem to be spared from critisism in it's context. It is usually more popular to play the axis than the allies actually. I guess the political aspects of the base for this game come up more because it's not far away time wise. We at least have proponents for both sides!
  3. Good you brought up this! I'm also wondering why there is so little ammo for the MG. I frequently have to resort to the AA MG for anti infantry jobs.
  4. That's too bad. Wether the TC can swing the turret around to face a target should not be dependant on your realism settings! Someone from BF.C will have to verify that this is the case, and wether it's meant to be that way. I'm happy I could help a little bit!
  5. I was thinking about this the other day too. It would be even more advantageous to pounce upon tankers who are already engaged with infantry since they would surely have the wrong type of shell in the barrel! First they need to fire off the HE round and then load the AP.

  7. It's best not to think too much about energy requirements in sci-fi. I'm studying physics but am not quite at the topic of particle physics yet. I have read a decent amount of more or less popular books on the subject though. From what I recall the consensus is the same on anti-matter, with current methods it's not an efficient way to harness energy. It's more likely that you would use hydrogen fusion since hydrogen is abundant all over the place. But such is life for scientists, most sci-fi, be it books or films, gets ruined for you because you realize all the shortcomings in their "science". Latest example is in Batman Begins where they use a big microwave cooker to vaporize all the water in Gotham, but the humans (who are ~70% water) are unaffected. You learn to not bother too much and just take a few things as given. A solid, small energy source is a good thing to assume in a sci-fi environment.
  8. When your TC has called a target and there is a small white box around it (or some arrow indicating it's position of the screen) then pressing T will traverse the turret to the designated target. Works for me anyhow.
  9. Here's a more detailed account of the assault pioneers with some more pictures as well. http://www.geocities.com/rf_mikael/mainframe.html Look under articles for "Soviet Body Armor in WWII". So, why aren't they in CMBB?
  10. I think you get the better sight with variable zoom later in the campaign. The dozer blade also arrives later. Read in the diary and I think you will see this mentioned when it happens. Try using the thermal sights more, I think they have less magnification. The rangefinder doesn't work at very short or long range. This holds for both the T-55 and T-72 in my experience. The fun is when it's a bit hard don't you think?
  11. We just had a long discussion on those armored pioneers over at the CMMC2 forums. I'll check if some of the information dug up can be released to the public. The short story is that those troops are assault engineers specialized in taking out heavily fortified defences.
  12. You can also get oodles of SU76M for 1000 points. They pack the same punch as the T-34 but without a turret. Their armor is just as vulnerable as that of the T-34 to long 75 mm guns. Could be fun to surprise your opponent sometime with 12 or 16 of those little puppies. Just watch out for light AT and AA assets. I just tried your setup with 9xDP LMG, 12xSU-76M and 2xSU-152. The krauts had 5xPzIVH, 1xInf Plt, 1xPAK-40 and 1xPAK-38. Allies all regular and Axis all veteran. Terrain was village, moderate trees and gentle slopes. Engagement ranges around 500 meters. I started out with losing 4 SU-76M to the PAK-40. But then the PzIV wandered into murdering fire from groups of 4 SU-76M and one SU-152. Didn't lose a single vehicle to his five tanks. It should be taken into account that this was vs the AI but then again I was rather sloppy too.
  13. Run missed.bat in the T72 directory. I didn't get this part at first either! Then there is the core editor in core.bat. That's where you can mess with stuff like weather and also designate which tank is playable. Though be careful as some settings might best be left alone, you wouldn't want to break the law of gravity right?
  14. Hull down is a classic tanking concept. There are a few terms describing how exposed you are to the enemy: -Defilade, means completely out of sight (behind a hill or sumfink). -Turret down, means only the commanders cupola is exposed so he can spot targets without the enemy seeing the whole tank. -Hull down, means the turret (and thus the main armament) is exposed so you can shoot but the hull of the tank (everything that's not the turret) is safe behind some cover. -Then you can always be in full view of the enemy but I don't know if there's a term for that. The easiest way to think of this is you on the reverse side of a hill and the enemy on the other side of that hill. Depending on how close to the crest you are the enemy will see more or less of your tank. Voila! Hope that cleared up the issue!
  15. I find myself driving to the action in the drivers seat. But when action is close at hand I play as the gunner and use 1,5,6,7,8 keys to maneovre the tank to great effect. It's quite easy to crash into the party, stop and fire, speed away, then rinse and repeat. I agree on the AI driver not being capaple enough to follow a road at good speed or drive in close terrain. Oh, and I let the TC call out targets for me. I also use the thermal sights a lot since they see through the grass which is handy in hull down fighting.
  16. EGP, I just replayed that mission and there is more infantry in the village. It's about the usual compliment of an officer, a radio man, a RPG gunner and a few rifle men. Then there is both an engineering vehicle and a MTLB. When all those were finished, after taking out the guns obviously, I still didn't get a victory. So I thought I had run in to the same problem as you. But as I drove down the slope to position one again yet another RPG gunner struck me a glancing blow. After he was dealt with the mission ended. And the guns don't have to be destroyed, it's sufficient that the crew is dead. Thermal sights are among the other sights. Just keep hitting PgUp or PgDown and you'll get it. Good luck!
  17. It says if the first round fires you're ok. So if it kicks up dust doesn't matter even if LOS is blocked for the second spotting round. That's how I interpreted it anyway.
  18. You know you can tilt the view in Google Earth for a better grasp of the topography. Should make more sense in Italy than in the desert though.
  19. Yeah, you do get in plain sight of the Sprut guns but thanks to the bad weather they can't see you and thus won't fire. You on the otherhand have thermal sights.
  20. I found that my crew dropped down to untrained at times and had to start over on the climb to veteran status. Maybe this has something to do with my tank brewing up?
  21. Yeah, I was freaking out when the TC called out 'RPG gunner, 150 meters!' when I was about to enter the village. But I got him before he got a chance to fire. Now that you have detailed how you do this one in detail I might just as well describe my efforts as well. So... I continue along the road a little bit and go up on the hill to the right. You are then positioned between the two infantry squads + MTLB. You then have to be careful about popping over that hill to close to the B-11 guns since they sometimes see you and promptly kill you. Try to get a good look into the valley from the 'back' of the, as far from position 1 as possible. I then proceed to turn on the thermals and start MGing the gun positions. When you find the range (by seeing what adjustment gets the rounds on target) I load up a HE round and manually set the range. Then it's bye bye for the gun. From up on that hill you should be able to spot all the guns with some moving around. And those pesky RPG gunners are left in the valley to be dealt with by your infantry or at your leisure from long range. Then just slam in your highest gear and run down that hill and into the village keeping a good lookout for infantry left over.
  22. Very good and thorough write up on arty! The part about spotting rounds is definitely good to know. Might I guess that green line adjusted fire from a TRP is also always accurate? (Well, TRP strikes almost always start at the very end of the turn you target them anyway which places this under the category of an accurate arty strike.)
  23. Maybe if you check that the guns themselves are destroyed and not just their crews? I'm just guessing though. I got through that mission after a few attempts when 4 guns were killed and I had mowed down some infantry in the village.
  24. Could it have to do with hyper threading? I can only see Intel processors affected. I´m sitting with an AMD and the game has been rock solid for me and I have played all the missions including the campaign.
