2. Is anyone else using the Kelly's heroes mod from CMHQ? That just cracks me up having dirty harry and Kojak together fighting the nazi's.
3. Wow, look at all those bodies. A mere 88-12, weak. That's not an asskicking
4. Charles too! You're not married are ya Charles? That means Steve can watch things at home while you work hard on the road for the tour, right?
5. Hey Stevo, welcome back. I'd be glad to represent BTS on a whorin drinkin tour, you can email the details
6. wierd stuff There is nothing in the game that can shrug off rear hits from a 75" at point blank to my knowledge. Even the venerable Jagdtiger and Konigstiger can be taken out in this manner. You did say it was nighttime, in the dark it's hard to judge LOS. I'd write it off to that
7. LOL at elvis. You're right Berli, he is but the diet coke of evil.
8. My roommate gets beautiful smoke and explosions. I want them but my system runs beautifully and the only excuse would be the better translucence...
9. PZ AV??? I'm not sure what you're talking about. I have seen my units not fire on enemy they didn't have a chance to damage. But with a sherman that doesn't make sense. Perhaps your sherman has gun damage? Is it a regular M4A3 sherman or is it a modified version? (I dont recall if the shermans with lighter guns were included (aa models))
10. God CEO, what an awful thing to do someone posting a thread like his
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Titan: another against former demo opponent(he needs to put in his place operation

Hahahaha, will we see about that o mighty one. To land even a couple good punches on you makes me happy. I will certainly remain in my place, on top
12. Nice, the Russian Military Zone. Check out Red Steel [This message has been edited by Darwin (edited 07-30-2000).]
13. Cool effect, well done ncounio.
14. I like to run around 6 or 7 at once. With the pbem nature of the game you can take the time to get your bearings for each game no problem. I did find with DYO's of similar parameters it was easy to get confused but generally the games are markedly different whether it's just in the OOB or what stage the game is in.
15. I'll definitely check out the freeware, thanks for the suggestions.
16. Way outside of my do it for fun price range Perhaps in the future I'll be able to write it off, not yet though
17. Neato, thanks for sharing. How much does a decent 3D animation program run these days?
18. Not gamey at all, have fun free of guilt
19.
quote:
Originally posted by deanco: Laurent, That's all well and good. You guys can get off on your armor thicknesses and your historical backgrounds all you want. I'm happy for you, whatever melts your butter. I'm asking, is this the reason (or a major reason) why you people that have been here a long time think that the forum is degenerating? I would guess from your response that the answer is yes, although you didn't state it clearly. DeanCo--

Hello DeanCo This is my impression on it. Mind you I don't consider degenerate the proper term myself, change fits better IMO. Back in the day when CM was still but a dream this forum was all about idea's and posibilities, on the 6th day steve gave us cheese, it was all about creation and tossing around theory with real world experience in debates about how best to simulate stuff. The group was relatively samll with nice cross of historians, researchers and veterans who kept the focus on topic. Coming here you could expect 90% of the posts to be on ballistics issues or metal hardness or simple grognard trivia. For me it was an intellectual environment, the peer pressure to post usefully was huge and somehow we generally have been extreemely courteous with each other. Whenever we'd get new blood they would have to be de-usenetized. They would slam doors, spill coffee, yell across the room, send nukes at the slightest hint of a possible insult, etc. When the influx was still slow assimilation was not a problem, a few ripples on the surface. With the huge influx around beta time we lost our precious order, they were far to many to assimilate the old way. We're still generally polite, but it is not the bastion of politically correct argument it once was. Such is the natural progression. We are no longer a think tank for BTS but with the game released the forum is not needed for that anymore anyhow as such matters will be taken to more private arenas. Many who came here for the old discussion will move on or retire, some of us will continue here helping newbies, feeling superior, etc, etc but the forum of old is gone for sure. I don't mind it myself. With the game here it's playtime and all the silly people are very welcome. It's time to take a break before CM2 gets serious. Live la vida loca, que no?
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael emrys: Well, FWIW, it doesn't seem at all weird to me. Remember, viewed from the side a halftrack, unlike a tank, is mostly empty volume if there aren't passengers aboard. You could make all kinds of nice holes in the side armor without achieving anything beyond improving the ventilation. Michael

I had a white scout car running away from a couple of german AC's get shot a bunch of times to no effect. It was a hotseat game and lasted more than a turn, it was pretty funny.
21. It's all good, we've all definitely torn our hair out at times Mine was 4 bazooka's against a Hetzer in heavy fog, I couldn't land any hits and got mowed. If only they had been PIAT's....
22. Hey ZAMO nice kids, you seem proud of them I loved modeling and the subsequent destruction of the models thereafter when I was a youngin. My mutations took me to painting lead monsters and heroes during the D&D years and most recently to my warhammer necromunda gangs (orlock and cawdor). I always look at the models avaliable when I see a hobby or game store but am rarely impressed by instock items other than the infantry kits. Looking through catalogs of either minitures or models still leaves me drooling however, maybe in the future when I have more space...
23. The ability to be calm when under high stress is not an attribute shared by the majority of humans. Perhaps there is more involved in the equation than LOS, distance and target size. You said you knew the panther was on the other side of the building from your sherman, was the Sherman also aware of it being there? How was global morale doing at the time? Was your Sherman in question under fire or did it have LOS to more enemy units than just the Panther? Had your sherman been fired upon yet during the game? I have found the game to be a most satisfying simulation. Not at all like the CC games IMO though I did enjoy CC1 and CC2.
