  1. Forgive me but I am just catching up on this thread…. Steve said: “This is the downside of having the more detailed terrain mesh. People hated the flat 2D look of the trenches and foxholes in CMx1. We did too. So we made them true 3D. The only easy way to work around this problem is to go back to the horrid 2D decals on 3D terrain. I know some of you think that would be a good idea, but I'd not be surprised to find you in a thread from 5-7 years ago arguing that we should get rid of 2D decals and have trenches and foxholes truly 3D ” I must of missed the “hated the flat 2D look” part of complaints in the past. Having been an old Squad Leader player I guess I was used to the 2D look. But if I had my druthers I’d rather have a 2D look than being able to spot the opponents or have all of my foxholes spotted in the second minute of the game. To me that would be much more unrealistic than having to look at a 2D foxhole. Steve you also said in the link pointing to the past discussion: ““Hidden foxholes/trenches are an extremely difficult thing for us to handle. I'm not sure if, or when, we'll be able to do this. Yes, it is on our list ”” Does that mean it’s still on the list or have you given up on the idea?
  2. One of the things I like about 3rd party designed (or canned) scenarios is that there is a chance of playing with units or a mix of units I would never have chosen in a quick battle. Of course there’s a bonus if there’s a well designed map. I agree with you DT on the tournament use of the Nabla system (a system that weighs your score against others playing the same side). In fact, right no I am sponsoring a tournament over on the Band of Brothers website for the new comers to the club called the “Heroes Welcome” tournament. Since we just had a large group of new members sign on we designed a tournament specifically designed to mix the old and the new players. Using the Nabla system we were able to quickly choose scenarios without being overly concerned about balance. Leto, at the BoB there are always new tournaments, campaigns and players just looking for opponents available. And sometimes there are calls for replacements to existing campaigns/tournaments. Every tournament has it’s own “hook” or unique theme. Right now I am in a tournament called “A Shot in the Dark”. And yes all rounds are night battles. Quick and fierce it has me in situations I normally wouldn’t be in using a quick battle format. By all mans stop by, take a look around and see for yourself. http://webandofbrothers.yuku.com/directory
  3. Hello John, My turn for the late response. Sure, I'll take what ever you have. I've sent you am e,ail via the forum with my email address in it. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing it.
  4. Hey, I'll take 'em. Maybe I'll even get motivated to convert the CMBO's to CMAK.
  5. Yes it was the Set Up phase. I watched it again and it may be that the emplacement was to small for that type of gun. I just watched the second movie, there was a lot of moving again but wasn't sure what exactly was being done, how or why orders were given or why the camera stopped where it did. I think I caught on to the movement and targeting for the Stuarts though. I believe it would greatly enhance the action if we could hear what the player was thinking and looking at across the battlefield.
  6. I don't have the Theater of War game but the screen shot looked pretty cool so I went over to You Tube and checked out the first video. There was a lot of spinning, clicking and what looked like a difficult time at placing an AT gun that just did not want to go in an emplacement and ended up on a court yard. I had very little clue as to what was going on. Would it be possible to narrate the video?
  7. I think a small membership fee is a good idea. There are many of us who belong to clubs that willing pay a small fee a year to keep the group going and have a place to meet and compete with other CM’ers. We also donate to sites like “The Scenario Depot II” and “The Proving Grounds” where many excellent old and new scenarios can be found and the already mentioned CMMODS site. I rarely download mods and I find that CM scenarios are usually way smaller than 10MB so this service would be free for those who want to find one or two (or many more) new scenarios a month. (I don’t know what the file sizes of CM2 are like). Would you have a robust search engine that gives more parameters than the Scenario Depot? Would you have CM1 and CMC scenarios on the new site? Since there are quite a few CM clubs out there perhaps there could be a group rate? If the membership dollars goes above and beyond your goal for the year you (as doubtful that may be) would you do something like extending the time of membership benefits for those all ready signed up? (or something to that effect) How about: The War Room The Combat Corner Battlefront Junction The Command Post The Observation Post The Forward Observer. Central Command The Control Center The Command Center The Command and Control Center The Battlefront Butler (it’s a server…get it) Ok ok I’ll stop here…..
  8. Nope. Primisole Night is a very large map and set in Italy. I'm pretty sure the scenario I am looking for was in France and on a small map. Thanks anyway for your help. All suggestions are welcome. Besides I'm finding a host of other interesting scenarios.
  9. Yes S.O. and a galaxy far far away. That one stuck with me over these many years. I thought I'd take a shot but can't seem to find it anywhere though. Nice try. I was going to use it on a new tournament at the Band of Brothers site. Maybe I'll make that up from memory in CMAK and convert two or three other CMBO scenarios and using the Nabla system start a tournament down the line sometime. Maybe call it the Nostalgia Tournament or somefink
  10. Nope, that wasn’t it. I hate to give any spoilers but….. It as a smallish map divided down the middle by a river with a single bridge. I believe there was a house next to the bridge on both sides. It was at night. Forces started on both sides of the river and contact was made immediately. I believe it was Allied AB and Axis Heer. From then on in it was chaos. Every other turn each side would be reinforced at different locations on the map and not at all on the edge. You never knew which way to turn. All of a sudden there were enemy troops right in the middle chewing everything up until you routed and the next turn you would receive reinforcements yards away(but out of LOS in the dark) and re-overrun the position you were kicked out of. At one point the Axis received an armored car which seemed difficult to knock out until the Allies received armed jeeps where at night you could just run up right behind the armored car, ram it from behind and knock it out with the .50 cal. In one set of reinforcements the Allies received an AT gun only to find out several turns later the Axis received a MkIV. It was constant run, overrun and over overrun. It wasn’t terribly realistic but it was great stuff. I think I had eggs with Canadian bacon, toast and coffee for breakfast
  11. Hi Kingfish, been a long time. I did a search over at the Scenario Depot with no luck. I googled CMBO Invitational and found a page where WineCape provided a link to the "Infamous CMBO Invitational" but unfortunately it doesn't work anymore. Can you point me in the right direction for the CMBO archives?
  12. I am looking for a scenario I played a long time ago, I believe it was in a tournament. I'm not sure if it was CMBO or CMAK. I hope one of you old timers may recognize it It took place a night, I believe it was British or American paratroopers vs. German Inf or Para's. There was a bridge in the middle of the map. It seemed almost every turn there were reinforcements to both sides all over the map, this side of the river then that side of the river, in front, then behind, which led to some real chaos. It was great fun. Would anybody have any idea of the scenario I refer to?
  13. Does this mean more scenarios with air power in it and should I start boning up on the use of AA equipment?
  14. If you're interested, you can watch the AI do it's dance by turning the Fog of War off.

  16. When targeting around 30 meters it should say "Area Fire Use Explosives". Usually within 40 seconds Regular Engineers should throw their charges. Outside their throwing range, when targeting, it will just say "Area Fire" [ February 27, 2008, 05:59 PM: Message edited by: Ted ]
  17. Something like that happpened to me once. My opponent didn't enter a password (you don't have to) and when I clicked OK, by mistake, his side just opened up and I could see everything.
  18. My brother runs Vista on his lap top and other than initially not seeing certain folders everything seems to run fine.
  19. Yes the AI can (and does) over rule the covered arcs. The quality of the troops depends a lot on this. In my experience veteran and crack troops almost always hold there fire until something enters their arc, green and conscripts usually start shooting way to soon.
  20. All you had to do was ask here and someone (like me) would have emailed all the patches to you. And it's really not that big a deal to load the patches.
  21. Yes nice post DK and good response BF! I knew the crews were worth more but never really put a number to it. This also shows it is very dangerous to use crews in any recon or combat mode that may put them in harms way. I hope you don't mind but I will share this information with the guys over at Band of Brothers website.
  22. Whoa! I didn’t think that was even possible. I’m still having a hard time picturing how it was done. It send’s shivers down my spine.
