The "personnel" rounds are indeed air bursts, but they are timed fuses, not VT (influence) fuses. If you watch closely, you may notice that the timing is off on some of them and they actually function as contact fuses.

Very good photos, if a trifle underexposed in some cases...but that's easily fixable in Photoshop. The main thing that struck me is the powerful sense of immediacy in most of them. They made me feel as if I were really there, viewing all this stuff in this location.
A couple things stood out strikingly. One was the breadth of beach that the heavily laden troops had to cross under withering fire. They sure could have used some LTVs. The second thing is the gentleness of the slopes of the bluffs. They were easily scalable and less heavily defended than the draws. One wonders how the battle might have gone if more of the troops had been landed opposite them. Joseph Balkowski reports in his book on the battle that the battle was actually turned when a small unit was landed there by mistake, made its way to the top and then was able to attack the draws from the rear.
Thanks so very much, Léopold, you've done good work this day.

If memory serves, something like this was the norm in CMx1. I'm not sure why it was deleted; maybe it was decided that the time and effort necessary to develop the animation would be better spent elsewhere.

Yeah? So? Mord, old buddy, I don't know how to break this to you, but that pretty well sums up your whole personality!

You are entirely correct IMO. But apparently it will require the hard decision to go to genetic alteration to get us there, and there is bound to be somebody who believes it to be in his/her interest to sabotage the process.

This has also been a long time gripe of mine for years and years. In my own readings it seems to me that artillery usage was more often in battalion strength than battery or troop. If a target did not rate a full battalion, then it was to be dealt with by the infantry unit's organic arms (mortars, regimental cannon company, etc.). This may have changed in more recent times due to the increased power of the modern artillery arm, but in WW II it was the case.

It strikes me as entirely possible that by the end of this century the human race might be extinct or nearly so. I hope not, but it seems like we are bound and determined to wipe each other out, and we're damned good at it. And that's not even counting giant meteors or mega-calderas.

'Decimated' or 'annihilated'? People often use one word when the other is intended.

+1. The "fetal curl" has always turned me off esthetically. And calling it something else, like "taking cover" would be an improvement too. Save the curl for units that are broken.

Yes, for the last two or three years I've been frustrated by the ability of t-72s to shrug off multiple hits from 155mm PGMs, receiving little or no damage even from direct hits. Can the real-life rounds be this ineffective?

CMx2 has been far more fruitful than CMx1, with six game families plus a bunch of modules with more coming compared to three games and no modules for the earlier version. What's more, CMx2 represents a more mature game engine. I too would like to see the game move on to CMx3 if that will open up new possibilities that can only be imagined now, but I have no idea how much work that will take or whether the existing crew can pull it off.

I think you are probably right. There is so much packed into CM that we often react with surprise and dismay when something that we expect to find is instead absent from the game.

Please, credit only where it is due. I am not a tester in any formal sense. I am just a player like yourself and many others. If in my play I might turn up something that I feel needs reporting, I will do so. But so do many others who have contributed more than I.
