The losses are concerning, but a lot of this Ukraine counter-attack force is green and they are still learning, mistakes are going to be made. If I translate the recent Ukrainian losses to my CM Black Sea-experiences:
I am a below-average skilled player. But even if I had to play let's say Bill Hardenberger (undoubtedly one of the best, methodical and clever players I saw during AAR's), than I still would be able to kill a number of his Bradleys and Abrams.
Every army, even the most victorious, takes losses.
There is way too much focus on this initial Ukraine-"attack mishap", because - and yes that is very cruel - it is relatively insignificant in the big overall scheme.

Of course the old adage “History is written by the losers who only remember New Orleans, and left unchallenged by the winners who are too polite to bring it up and still feel bad about burning the White House” applies here.

Looks like initial phase of UKR offensive already began.
This video appeared today in official military media: "Plans like silence. There will be no begining anouncement"
Different reports of Russian milbloggers of UKR probes near Avdiivka, Velyka Novosilka direction
Enemy went in the breakthrough near Donetsk: tanks and infantry of AFU attecked on Avdiivla flanks

UKR TG confirms: We have successes on Avdiivka [direction], guys are conducting mop-up with kamikadze drones
Velyka Novosilka direction: UKR troops attacked our positions and could captured one of them. They suffered tangible losses, but incease own presence on breakthgrough section, trying to develop own achievements
Other source told UKR attacked on this direction with infantry, supported by 10 of tanks and light armor.

Other report from this place. In short, two companies with support of 3-5 tanks heavy attack our positions near Neskuchne, trying to breakthrough our minefileds. There is havy clashes, our artillery and aviation work intesivlely.

On other hand, Russians activated own offensive efforts in Maryinka. Reportedly arrived Kadyrov troops intensively attack from early morning with aviation and MLRS support.

 
 
 

This night Russians conducted next combined air attack - 15 cruise missiles Kh-101/555/Kalibr and 21 Shakheds were launched. Most of them headed to Kyiv. All enemy objects were shot down. I was so sleepy, that even didn't wake up, when AD destroyed several targets over neighbour quarters %)
 

Actually, the President can do quite a bit without immediate and express Congressional approval if the authorities already exist. You know, like all that aid to Ukraine. So no, you are not a political student and you are very wrong.

Oh I don't know. He has been good enough on his feet to arrange the destruction of the Russian military with only 4% of the US military budget, thoroughly pantsed the GOP on the debt limit fight and Americans 25 to 54 are working at their highest rate since 2001.
If that's not fit, I'll take more unfitness please.

So maybe a dumb question from an outsider but why not curb the powers of the presidency?   The US has a lot of checks and balances but maybe not enough.  I am sure there are a thousand reasons not to do this but seriously haven’t you guys had enough bad presidents to maybe rethink things a bit?
We have two types of pardons in Canada, one is done by the judicial system and the other is a royal pardon by the Governor General - normally ceremonial and rarely used.  The PM cannot pardon anyone - a pardon cannot be politicized.  The PM also has a lot less executive power - we do not have the executive order system in this country.  We have an Order in Council but it is also done be a committee and technically has to go past the GG.  In short there are political systems where one person can only do so much damage.
The ability of one administration to effectively hijack the democratic system is just a disaster waiting to happen.  It would be hilarious except for the whole “empire we all bet on” part.
