  1. "I think that when a DOW is done, because of a game mechanic exploit rather then because it makes sense from a realistic standpoint - it's a fair way to win a game. It's just perhaps a sad commentary on the merits of the game itself." "BTW: in every strategy game you need to know how it works (at least to read the manual) if you want to have a chance in multiplayer - and any able opponent who has played the game already will certainly win against each new player simply because he already knows which strategies work and which ones don´t." Just two reasons why I prefer to play against the AI... in this or just about any 'strategy' game. Until the tactics become more important than game-engine-manipulation this will remain so for me. *goes back to work writing scripts*
  2. Nope, but I have opened it twice by mistake... not pretty... comp crashed big style. I guess my little machine was overtaxed ;p
  3. I would think all defence bonuses should apply to rockets as for other units. Why should they be singled out for different treatment?
  4. Same problem here... but with Axis armour as I was playing as allies. Thought this was an old bug?
  5. Easy kill? As I recall our game(s) were pretty close
  6. I stand corrected. I knew I should have double checked which it was before typing
  7. These are the OOBs for 09/1939 (with one exception) with ships almost completed or undergoing refitting/repairing noted down too. 8. Your third query I cannot help with. I have always assumed it to be a direct ratio of strength (ie attack of 3 versus a defence of 2 is 50% more effective than attacking the same unit with an attack rating of 2) But to be honest I have never even thought to question this assumption!
  9. iirc the 3d unit bitmaps are 75x75 pixels. Either way if you ensure the new bitmaps you use are of those dimensions then simply paste them over the existing bitmaps without obscuring any other then they should work fine. I think the German tank4 and tank5 images are identical except they are aligned slightly differently so there is a little scope for error. A simple play with the bitmaps in an image editor will give you a better insight, however.
  10. To change the name of research headings you will have to customise the 'localisation.txt' file. The best way to do this is to take a copy of the localisation.txt file from the root directory and paste it into your campaign directory. Then change the 'campaign.ini' file to show '#CUSTOM_LOCALIZATION= 1'. This will allow you to customise all sorts of things in the localisation.txt file in your campaign directory to your heart's content. Just don't alter the localisation.txt file in the root directory... otherwise things could get a little complicated PS The edit post button is the icon with the pencil and sheet of paper above your post
  11. Thanks for that... I was under the impression that you had used someone else's Axis scripts as well. Clearly not I am a great fan of the naval war side of things in SC and would love to help you improve this area of your mod. To whet the appetite here is the OOB of the Kriegsmarine at the outbreak of war: BB Bismarck (Commissioned 08/1940) BB Tirpitz (Commissioned 02/1941) CA Scharnhorst CA Gneisenau CA Prinz Eugen (Commissioned 08/1940) CA Blucher (Commissioned 09/1939) CA Admiral Hipper CA Graf Spee (Possibly not considered due to it's location in 09/1939) CA Admiral Scheer (Damaged at the outset of the war and underwent repairs until 10/1940) CA Deutschland (Renamed Lutzow in 11/1939) CV Graf Zeppelin (Launched 1938 but never commissioned)
  12. Just finished playing this mod as the allies on the hardest settings and I think the balance is not quite right yet. Forgive me if the Axis AI has had no work done on it but it performed pitifully. The war was over by the end of '42 after the Germans had only managed to capture Poland and Denmark. Belgium and France remained free and keeping the Axis in check until the USSR entered the war and marched straight to Berlin. For a historical mod which has spent so much time getting the Soviet fleet correct I found the other naval forces under represented. Maybe Blashy could use some help getting them historically correct also? I did like the research modifications that were made, however, and do think there is some potential for this mod. Next weekend I will have a go at playing the Axis powers and see how I fare.
  13. Maybe F&F is short for Fredo & Fab? Or did you totally miss that connection? Personally I love the idea of an expanded africa.... not only does it open the way for other mods but also it allows for a lot of 'what if?' scenarios and allow the great powers to struggle for further territory.
  14. I have read conflicting information about the Kirov Class and the Maxim Gorky Class. Two sites I consulted class them as CL while one classes them as CA. I guess you take your pick Kirov (1939) & Maxim Gorky (1941) were stationed in the Baltic. From the research I have done it seems like the Black Sea Fleet was largely smaller vessels but the Voroshilov (Kirov Class) & Molotov (Maxim Gorky Class) were based there; both were commissioned in 1941. The BB Parizhskaya Kommuna (Previously named Sevastopol) was also stationed in Sevastopol... funnily enough ;P For the sake of completeness the Kalinin and Kaganovich (Maxim Gorky Class) were both based in Vladivostok. Apart from these two classes all other Russian cruisers of the time seem to be universally classed as CLs. The Soviets scrapped a number of capital ships shortly before the war and cancelled production of several BB in late 1940 when they were not far from completion; Potentially leading to a 'what if?' scenario.
  15. I'm not Kuniworth but here is an OOB for Soviet Fleets at the start of 1940: Baltic Fleet - BB Marat BB Oktjabrskaja Revolutsija CL Avrora (Next biggest ship - used primarily as a training vessel) SS About 33 vessels Numerous DD and smaller craft Northern Fleet - SS About 16 vessels I could not find any CAs in the Baltic/North at the end of '39 but there were several CLs around. These could be represented by a single CA?
  16. Noob mistake... good detecting Hawk, thanks A pain that it shows up for me then!
  17. Still cannot see this one on CMM... unless I am being blind. I await it eagerly!
  18. Yes! Especially when you are a muppet like me that spends six hours drawing a map of a continent to painstaking accuracy only to forget to save it at the end. Perhaps 'muppet' is not a strong enough word? ;P
  19. It's a bmp file so I have no idea why you cannot see it. Nevermind, I have sent it instead.
  20. Is this any good? [ July 13, 2006, 01:14 PM: Message edited by: Moonslayer ]
  21. "used by the Provisional Government of Free India" Just thought you might need a little help. Of course there were flags of India other than that of the British Overlords... I also think the phrase "isn't a free country" may be contested by a few hundred million Indian nationals these days
  22. "The flag adopted in 1931 and used by the Provisional Government of Free India during the Second World War." From Wikipedia
  23. For the sake of completeness here are the heavy cruisers of the Royal Navy in 1939: Home Fleet: HMS Norfolk (18th Cruiser Sqdn) Chatham: HMS London (rebuilding) Portsmouth: HMS Suffolk (Refitting until 23rd Sept) Humber: HMS Southampton, HMS Glasgow (2nd Cruiser Sqdn) Channel: HMS Cairo (In Portland) Mediterranean Fleet: HMS Devonshire, HMS Shropshire, HMS Sussex (1st Cruiser Sqdn); HMS Coventry (Alexandria) South Atlantic: HMS Exeter (Falklands) China Station: HMS Kent, HMS Cornwall, HMS Dorsetshire (5th Cruiser Sqdn) West Indies Command: HMS Berwick, HMS York (8th Cruiser Sqdn) Reserve Fleet: HMS Hawkins (Refitting), HMS Frobisher(Refitting suspended until 1940) (Portsmouth) Anyone fancy doing the CLs?
