  1. Already had the latest video driver and I have now updated DirectX... sadly I got the same error. This is no great surprise, however, as sc2 works for every other scenario, official or user-made except for the one I have spent today making. I had assumed that the editor had not picked up an obvious error I had made in the editing phase. I will continue to investigate, thanks for the help.
  2. I have created a basic scenario and tried to playtest it. As I was starting a new game I got an error message and the game closed. Upon checking the error log I found this: [11/19/2006 9:04:40; 5.1.2600; 1024x768x32(1); v1.04] DIRECTX FAILED(draw_war_map_to_buffer): dderr_invalidrect The game runs perfectly for all of the standard scenarios and also mads I download from CMODs. I have checked the editor and there are no errors flagged up... I am stumped. Can anyone offer any advice please?
  3. It seems I am clueless. I certainly don't mean to cause offense but the people of WW2 all around the world were pretty much the same. US citizens, like the rest of the world, were just average Joes trying to get by the best way they could... which was made much harder by the acts of a few warmongers. That aside, I am truly sorry for the pain you feel and hope you come to terms with your grief quickly.
  4. Is this really appropriate on a wargaming site? Maybe we should stick to the topic the board was meant for?
  5. I have just knocked up a few flags to demonstrate what can be done in ms paint. They are a bit rough and ready! Unfortunately my image processing software is on a different computer but this should give an idea of what can easily be done.
  6. I don't have the definitive answer but I suppose as you cannot modify the save game files then the answer would have to be 'no'. The game only starts off from the campaign set up... saved games are based on the original campaign set up but do not refrence the altered campaign once the game has started. Think of it like a gun (the campaign) firing a bullet (a game). The bullet will continue to take the same trajectory even if you 'improve' the gun after it has fired. In order to benefit from the gun's modifications you would have to fire another bullet (ie start a new game). I hope I have not confused you by this nonsense
  7. Looking at the fine bitmaps above I find this hard to believe ;p Personally I would not have a clue where to start with bitmaps.
  8. I have had quite a bit of success with fluttering flags and, providing they are not too complicated, can replicate most flags that I have come across so far. I would be happy to knock up a few samples for anyone who would like some. Just let me know what you would like to see.
  9. Lars your idea is a good one... in fact in my own mind then the extra recon ability of overstrength units was a given; except I never actually made this explicit. Terrain effects and Intel adjustments are also good. Whilst I am on the subject I also should mention that weather will obviously affect recon as the planes simply don't fly as far in poor weather (I assumed this would be taken as read in my original post too but similarly failed to actually state this)
  10. These are nice, cheers. As a slight adjustment maybethese could be modified to take account of natural political leanings. Nations with fascist leanings could have a 6 or 7% chance of moving toward axis alignment with only 4 or 5% chance of moving towards the allies. Obviously the reverse situation would occur if the nation was a non-fascist-sympathetic state. Also it would be interesting to add in changes due to countries surrendering. So if germany defeats a tough country like the USSR then many of their sympathisers may increase their readiness.
  11. Maybe all coastal tiles (not full sea tiles) should make ships vulnerable to land units. Coastal batteries were able to give fairly good shore defences against enemy shipping. Another alternative is to allow fortified/city tiles the ability to attack adjacent coastal tiles. But if we do this then we should also decrease the defensive values of such locations against attacking enemy fleets. Possibly there is some scope for another tech? 'Coastal Defences' which can upgrade cities and fortified tiles giving them increased attack/defence values against fleets.
  12. I dl them but sadly my computer died in august and all campaigns were lost. Good luck though!
  13. This is a good idea and should also be backed up with many more specific changes to activation based on choices made by both sides in the war. Every declaration of war should have political consequences and affect both potential allies and enemies alike.
  14. I don't recognise the name (I have little interest in actors/actresses and just prefer to watch the films). But I have seen just about every film/tv show mentioned in the original post so I must have seen him at some point. Always sad when someone passes from this world, be they actor or 'normal' person. So I would like to add my 'farewells' to him too. In the same spirit I would like to recognise the passing of these people on Friday, also: BRANDIS, Thomas A., 74 BUDDEMEYER, William H., 67 D'ACHILLE, Tullia, 83 DORSEY, Frances "Ellie," 81 Farewell to you all.
  15. I suggest that air units be given a recon strength equal to their unit strength. This recon strength should drop by one for each tile away from the air unit's current position. So for a full strength air unit with a spotting range of 5 it's relative recon strength for each tile would be: 55555555555 56666666665 56777777765 56788888765 56789998765 56789X98765 56789998765 56788888765 56777777765 56666666665 55555555555 Any nearby enemy airfleet would reduce the recon strength of the original airfleet by the enemy's recon strength (and vice versa). eg. An enemy airfleet located just to the south east of our airfleet in the first example would modify our air fleet's recon value like this: 55555555555 56666666665 56777777765 56788888765 56789998765 56789X98765 56789998765 56788833210 56777721100 56666610000 55555500000 Any tile where the air unit's recon strength falls below '1' remains enshrouded in the fog of war. Just an idea!
  16. Many apologies... from your initial post I had assumed you were beefing up the UK... which is at 100% activation and hence I never thought to mention it.
  17. I did this in my last game... the National Guard cost me my Italian and Spanish battle groups but the Germans hung on and eventually crushed the feeble US defence. My defensive line on the Soviet border never flinched; indeed it was the training ground for my most experienced troops.
  18. oil is worth 3mpp per point of strength... hence a full 10str well yields 30mpps per turn
  19. I vote for 2 also and, for some players information, I am still working on my africa mod... which extends the map down to aden and the djibouti area. Who knows, I may even finish it someday ;P
  20. Surely the only way he could do this is to slip past copenhagen after you have dowed it but before you conquer it. The simple way to avoid this is to do both in the same turn Reasonably careful positioning of the Kriegsmarine should prevent any blockading of your ports by the 2 russian vessels.
  21. I used the editor and added in a whole bunch of HQs and alternate build limits then play with hard limits on... I just love to beef up the minors as this makes things more interesting for me. Of course if you play hvh then a simple request to use these altered limits should be acceptable to all but the most fanatical purists.
