War of the Worlds... Still Kicking!
Moonslayer replied to Moonslayer's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
I agree... that is just one of the 'rough edges' I have to sort out To begin with I need to ensure I have all the graphics in play. I am really not looking forward to doing the silhouettes as my graphics software will not do them quickly in a satisfactory way... I may be calling on Normal Dude for some assistance with this matter I don't think I am ever going to be happy with the tripods... they are just too gangly for the size of the sprites and look a little flimsy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I may utilise an idea by Fantomas for my bridge problem but for now I am using 'ferries'. I can easily see this mod taking months to complete with my 2 or three hours a week I can currently give to it. Good things come to those who wait, however -
I have been a little busy over Christmas with another project (which will come to light in the fullness of time). But have spent the last few weeks grabbing what time I have and using it to continue with this project. The game is now just about playable for playtesting purposes but still has many many graphical 'rough edges' to sort out before it's ready. Here is a screeny of my latest playtest where the Martians are just about emerging from their first cylinder (which currently looks suspiciously like the city of London!!) as the red weed creeps it's way inexorably towards Kensington Palace. Two British Battalions are poised to 'smash' the alien invaders...sadly they hadn't reckoned on the heatray! It is possible to beat the aliens by force of arms but the human general has to concentrate so much firepower that the rest of London will be swallowed up if he does. It's a quandry for our human commander. The Alien, on the other hand, cannot afford to get too tied up by the human forces or risks running out of time before the virus wipes them out. It's a lot of fun to play and even more fun to create... just wish I had more time to give! Tune in for next month's installment folks PS And, in case you were wondering about what happened to the two, aforementioned, British battalions... they were melted very swiftly! I agree 100%. I never vote simply as I have little interest in politics and fail to see any differences whatsoever between the major political parties here in the UK. The only time I would be persuaded to vote would be if it looked as if an extremist party seemed to be gaining support. Then I would vote against them to keep them out of office. Until that happens I will leave the voting to those that give a damn.

I didn't say that Your comment seemed to suggest that if the US economy crashes then the rest of the world is in for a similar fate. That is simply not the case. Of course there would be some rather big ripples as the US does have a pretty big influence... but to say we are all dependent on the US is a little blinkered to say the least.

Malta & Tunis
Moonslayer replied to Lars's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Rather than have multiple bomber types I would rather see new research types such as 'naval bombers' (+1 to naval attack); 'ASW' (+1 to sub attack); 'Strategic attack' etc. These research types should replace the existing bomber research and only one of each of them should be applicable to any one bomber unit. This would allow for specialisation of bomber units. -
Is that a serious post? I hardly think the US has that kind of influence over the world economy. As far as governments go true communism is easily the 'best' system... works brilliantly for several insect species... problem is Humans aren't insects and are nowhere near altruistic enough for it to work. Democracy seems to work well for many of us in the West (but definately not all).

Changing the Axis minors colours

Germans and Italians are MAJOR powers... only the minors are affected by this -
Changing the Axis minors colours
Moonslayer replied to gravyface1's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
All the minors of a side (Allies, Axis) share the same sprites and colours... there is no way to alter this I'm afraid... unless you are called Hubert, of course -
Darwin's theories are probably not 100% correct as there are discrepancies in the fossil record. Newton's theories are similarly not a general set of 'laws' as they are only accurate for low speeds. To say we actually 'know' much of anything is presumptuous at best. Dark matter is matter that is not easily detected (hence 'dark') and ranges from the mundane (planets outside our solar-system) to the near fabulous (W.I.M.P.s). Whether there is a reason that we are here or not is up for debate. Some say a super-being has a plan for us while others say that life is a mere progression of a random sequence of events. Blind faith imho is something that belongs in the past; a native south american tribesman may find a television 'magical' but we should be a bit beyond this as a species now. Personally I have no idea if there is a superior being overseeing our development... but I also find the question largely irrelevant. Why worry about something that can neither be proved nor disproved... it is all a bit pointless. I am sure this forum is not really the place for such discussions, however, so I think this had better be my last word on the subject. Others will doubtless want their right of reply.

Surprise rules?
Moonslayer replied to Bromley's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
I have always assumed this was tied into the zoc rules. When a unit moves the adjacent tiles to the one it moves to become 'owned' by the moving side. This is true for all non-resource tiles afaik. -
Memoir '44 currently but in the past loved desert rats and vulcan. Eastern front on my atari 400 was awesome too... still play it on an atari emulator occasionally. Haven't played may war board games but I love axis and allies, armchair generals and diplomacy. A friend of mine is trying to organise a wargame weekend coming up soon but we shall see what happens.

How to reduce the effect of experience
Moonslayer replied to ev's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
Combat will become far more deadly if you do this. Try it out, though, and let us know how it goes. -
Leningrad - Worth the bother?
Moonslayer replied to Bromley's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
MPPs represent far more than just oil or even material resources in general. They represent the production power, resupply power, reserve manpower etc etc. Consequently I think the oil fields are over-represented as it is. -

Thrawn is SUPERB!!!!!
Moonslayer replied to CSS's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
Cheers HC! @Edwin: I had always envisaged doing a 'what if' scenario where a more capable Italy had ambitions of conquering Africa and had the leadership to carry this out. The purpose of the editor is to try out these sorts of things I have long been a 'fan' of Italy in WWII since my childhood of playing 'desert rats' on my brother's speccy and my airfix 1/32 scale soldiers ('army men' to you colonial types ) where my favourites were my Italian troops. I have so many ideas for mods in this game but just a tiny portion of one lifetime in which to realise them :/ -
