Will this rig likely run this game when it's released?
Thomm replied to Fatgreta1066's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
Exactly why I do not understand the fetish with large, larger, huge scenarios. I'd rather have five small scenarios than one large one (that I will never even load). Best regards, Thomm -
That's one telegraphed slap!

My credit card company says it's for real. Best regards Thomm

The trick is to get (them) to the point where the bullets / grenades / missiles start flying! From then on, the retro look will be forgiven! Best regards Thomm

Since Austria was/is neutral, she was expected to defend against both NATO and Warshaw pact. Excellent module material, in my humble opinion! Best regards Thomm

1945-46 Follow on Module for CM?

I think the idea of the original poster was that Germany was out of the war already? Best regards Thomm -
Wish 1: Some form of CM:BO-style shockwave visualization. When in doubt, make it optional! Wish 2: Persistent map damage Wish 3: Fulda Gap ... Oh, wait! Already preordered! Best regards, Thomm
-
NO, it should be optional! So, that those, who are annoyed by it, can switch it off whenever they want. And vice versa. I would want to have it on at all times, because it looks (rather, looked) awesome. It was the single-most distinguishing visual feature of CM:BO! It really stood out. Also, if they did not show the whole sphere, but rather an expanding ring fading out vertically, the effect would be more subtle, and perhaps cause less problems. Best regards, Thomm

One last remark: It is amazing how many desperate pleas for bringing back the shockwaves a search for this word brings up. Just. Saying. Best regards, Thomm

The shockwaves conveyed the violence of the explosion so well! They must have the code lying around somewhere. Just throw it in and make it optional. Just one example I found. You really can feel the force. What I would do, though, is to not render the whole hemisphere, but only a ring in the horizontal plane which becomes more and more transparent with increasing height. This way, you get the impression of the shockwave racing outwards while not obscurating the debris in the middle. Ohhh, CMx1: How full of excellent design choices it was! Best regards Thomm

Not bad, your S tank. But does it play in the same league as the Austrian Kürassier?
-
This all means nothing unless shockwaves make their comeback!
-
Don't miss out on the fabulous Austrian army! Hint: There is not much extra modeling work to be done! Iconic equipment includes: The Steyr AUG. The 18 t 'Kürassier' tank hunter. Unique stationary tank turrets and bunkers! Some links: Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Seems that I shall have to pay a visit to the Museum of Military History here in Vienna. Best regards, Thomm

The usual suspect: Tom Clancy: Red Storm Rising. Best regards Thomm

Pre-orders for Combat Mission Cold War are now open.

Searching for phrase 'cold war' posted by 'Battlefront.com' does the trick. You will come up with many more posts by Steve dismissing the idea of a Fulda Gap CM. Why they changed their minds, I don't know; But to them, my money will flow! Best regards Thomm -

Interesting ancient threads: Even more ranting in praise of the Cold War for CMX2 :) CMx2 game about Nato vs Warsaw Pact 1980's in Europe? Best regards Thomm -
Okay, it's over. Just (already known?) screenshots and stuff that can be read on the website. Best regards, Thomm

Hmm. Slideshow.

Excellent!!! I may be wrong, but the overall brightness in the first screenshot could indicate the presence of a flare. Best regards Thomm

Pre-orders for Fire and Rubble are now open!!
Thomm replied to BFCElvis's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Back once more to the info on the preorder page. Meanwhile I found the following information at: https://www.battlefront.com/cmrt-upgrades/ Current version is v2.00 (Game Engine 4). The first release of Red Thunder used Engine 3, therefore Upgrading to Game Engine 4 is the option for you. To find out what version you have, launch CMRT and look in the lower right for the Version and Engine numbers. Click below for more information. So there are patches and then there is an engine upgrade that you have to pay for. I think it would be most helpful for people with the original DVD to outline the upgrade and patch procedure on the preorder page. Best regards Thomm -
Pre-orders for Fire and Rubble are now open!!

The following is still on the preorder web page: "There is no download for this product! As long as you have an up-to-date installation you already have 100% of the files you need." Very confusing! Please allow me to ask: I still have the original DVD from back then, and a new system. If I want to use this, I have to install two (free) patches, first CMRT v1.03, then CMRT v2.02, right? Best regards Thomm -
Something to pass the time. Pretty grim, though. BERLIN 1945 | ArmA III Machinima Best regards, Thomm

If CM had a First Person mode ...
Thomm replied to Thomm's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
No remorse here. I was not looking for an online multiplayer FPS. In fact, I was not looking at all. The game found me. If I want to have a multiplayer experience, I play a different game (which I will not mention, because you will point at me and laugh! ). I looked at some videos of the more realistic games you mentioned, but they seem to require so much more effort, and to be so much more frustrating then the straight-up bot matches, which can be tweaked and modified to give the a consistent experience reliably independently of any server population. In the comment section of an ARMA III video, a guy described how he and his team where waiting for their online opponent to show up ... for four hours ... because the enemy leader did not understand his mission properly! Certainly realistic, but not my idea of fun. The bots do not lie in ambush in some hedgerow to kill you after you walked to the frontline for ten minutes. Nevertheless, they are capable enemies, and do not feel 'stupid' so far. And I like some gameplay decisions, which are absurdly unrealistic, but make the game more interesting, such as the pronounced bullet and shell drop even at short distances, which makes tank battles more interesting than just point-and-shoot fights. If you want me to feel remorse, mention 'Among Us', which I bought for my daughter along with Brass Brigade. Off to Arnhem now! Best regards, Thomm -

So I went ahead and bought the game (for 8 Euros). And it is a lot of fun!!! I was wrong, though, with my initial comparison to Combat Mission. The perfect description would be 'a FPS mode for Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far'. At least as far as the 'Arnhem' map is concerned. Lots of nail-biting action to be found there! Best regards, Thomm
