Next step in Graphics technology from NVidia
Thomm replied to SlowMotion's topic in General Discussion Forum
Trying to bring this thread back on topic, I point you to the presentation below, which is well worth watching through. It gives a good overview over the history of computer graphics along with a description of the new technologies. -
Next step in Graphics technology from NVidia
Thomm replied to SlowMotion's topic in General Discussion Forum
Actually the technology is pretty cool. In the reveal presentation it was said that the neural network core brings "the benefit of supercomputer preprocessing" to the PC, which is plausible and a pretty good explanation of what neural networks are good for. It will be exciting to watch this evolve! Best regards Thomm -
Matrix games exciting new release

I was monitoring the progress of "The Tactical Art of Combat", a potential 3/D successor to Close Combat. Seems that this project has quietly died, the website being offline at the moment. Proves that it is not that easy to get a CM competitor to the market. Best regards, Thomm- 57 replies

Invisibility cloak--real
Thomm replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
Interesting, how the "invisibility cloak" fails at the very moment when the wearer is most exposed. Best regards, Thomm -
CMSF 2 – US-SYRIA BETA AAR

I apologize in advance for the negativity, but I find these "movie mode" screenshots hard to look at. I do not think that they advertise the game very well. Best regards, Thomm -
After the battle ends you should be able to keep going.

"After the battle ends you should be able to keep going." I also felt that way several times during playing CM. I think it is a valid suggestion. Best regards, Thomm -
My grandfather, who was a Stalingrad vet, helped me simulate a "tactical nuke attack" on a plaster diorama. I still remember the fireball rising three meters in the air ... He was not very fond of US artillery, though. Best regards, Thomm

Not sure if I understand the problem, but you can get the source webpage by right clicking on the image and choosing "copy image location" or something like that. http://fantastic-plastic.com/index.html Best regards Thomm

Turkish Leo2 tanks struggle in the Syria
Thomm replied to exsonic01's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
On the weekend I had the possibility to climb onto and into a Leopard 2A4. I was absolutely awed by the size of the tank, which I would not put on the order of "vehicle" but rather of "medium boat". I wonder if VR could give the size of this thing justice. It is also remarkable how crammed with equipment the inside is (even though this was expected). At the same time, one can stand upright easily inside the turret basket. It was also the first time I did not just see the tank standing on display, but moving into position, which is also very impressive. And intimidating. Best regards, Thomm -
My weak attempt at making a stupid joke just showed my ignorance! Thanks for putting things straight. I better go back to lurking now! Best regards, Thomm

Combat Mission Shanghai Pact: Ring of Fire 2021
Thomm replied to LUCASWILLEN05's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Would the one-child policy affect China's readyness for a conflict? I just calculated how many men were there in my grandparents generation at the time of WW2: The number is 11 (my grandfathers plus all brothers combined). End even more women. This Youth Bulge provided a lot of manpower. Now China certainly has a lot of manpower herself, but with the majority of sons being single children (my guess) the readiness to sacrifice them must be comparatively low (in the spirit of Gunnar Heinsohn). Having seen more of this video I now fully understand why people objected to me linking to some excerpts with drone videos earlier. Best regards, Thomm -
Something seems to be happening here, dudes.
Thomm replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Okay, looking at the Store, the following appears to be applicable: Final Blitzkrieg and Black Sea and Red Thunder can be upgraded to 4.0 directly. Battle for Normandy and Fortress Italy require Upgrade 3 also. I suppose the Upgrades also apply all available patches, automatically? Best regard, Thomm -

Thomm replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
I am particularly curious whether or not it is possible to upgrade the base games directly to the 4.0 standard in one go with the Big Bundle Upgrade. That would be most beneficial. (I am sure this is described in detail somewhere, but I do not have the patience to search for it) Best regards, Thomm -

Interesting! It seems to work as one would expect it to. But what about exposure? Do the guys at the corners get some abstract bonus taking into account that they could just peek around the corner without fully exposing themselves? Best regards Thomm -

If someone posts a video of the new building corner behavior, that will make me very happy! Best regards Thomm -
I judge those videos purely from the visual standpoint. As reference material, since they show what CM players would potentially see in their games if those were "photorealistic". My advice is to you (and others) is to report my post, and let BFC decide. If only for the reason that I do not seem to be able to edit the post myself any more. I certainly would not take any offense if the thread was deleted. Best regards, Thomm
