Incredible Footage

I don't think this one has been posted. Syrian rebels engaging what looks to be BMPs with RPGs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNR5OTZZQTE

Pretty far away for an attack with RPGs.

Another RPG video i think we havent had yet:

A brave way to engage a tank, i wouldnt even expect my troops in CMSF do that sucessfuly. Almost Hollywood style.

EDIT:

Missile hits helicopter, helicopter apparently survives:

And another ATGM video, this time it appears to be a 9K115-2 Metis-M:

Yeah I thought the same re the RPG attacks. It does look like they hit one of them though - unless that's them generating smoke (although don't think BMPs can do that maybe it was a T72?).

Re the video you posted - jeezo - balls of steel considering it looks like the tank has infantry pretty close by. I'm not sure that last guy who runs across is as lucky though. As he goes out of shot there are a flurry of shots.

God is certainly great....I wonder which side He is on in this fight?

Seems odd that the West still cannot determine who these rebels are with all the video being uploaded to the internet. At least the US and others are claiming that they do not know who comprises these rebel groups. I wonder if the intelligence agencies are critiqueing these videos as deeply as we are on this forum.

If that was a shell being fired that camera must have one hell of a long focal length and be very far away to capture that.

Flight time of the shell fired in the video: approximately 0.9 +-0.1 seconds,.

Muzzle velocity of the T-72s 125 mm gun: approximately 900-1200 meters per second, depending on ammunation.

So the distance between the tank and the camera can probably be estimated to be between 700m and 1200m.

Probably on the side that shouts "Allah Akbar"...

Agencies probably are scrutinizing over these videos as well, but I think it's safe to say to most in the western world have no idea who is fighting who. Multiple parties in Syria backed up by various regimes and Jihadist groups. Iran is involved, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, I even heard Israel bombed a convoy/military complex...

So for me it's a very shady complex situation, all I see is the "rebels" using an almost medieval style of warfare and the Syrian army who still seems to have the upper hand ... in the areas that they control. They certainly have lost large parts of the country though.

Can't say I'm a fan of Assad, less even of the rebels, but to see that country tearing itself apart brick by brick... a sad sight really.

May Allah, the great and mercyful, be praised for blessing his people in Syria with HD cameras. Here is some footage of the second israeli airstrike on a military complex in Damascus.

The large explosion in the first video is around 3740 meters away from the camera.

Here is some footage of the aftermath:

Horrible!, now the Zionists are not only targeting civilians but chickens as well.

The Syrians had to close the KFC in Damascus due to a poultry parts shortage.

No shortage of tank ammo however.

agusto,

The phenomenal link you provided The assault:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_oKe_JXKPM

perfectly illustrates what I mean regarding microrelief. You can easily hide a T-72 in just a few meters of cover, yet our minimum map altitude change is 5 meters, right? This battlefield has all kind of ripples, dips, small elevations, slopes and more, not to mention debris and various other goodies which have tactical impact yet don't show up in our games.

Whereas infantry in CMx2 is relatively easy to see and engage, this vid gives the lie to that. Even with powerful optics from well above the ground plane, it's hard to see infantry, unless it's moving, and in very short order, it pretty much disappears.

This vid also shows what some call the empty battlefield. There's a fight raging to be sure, but it's hard to see much of anything, let alone figure out the details. If this is an assault, I'm not terribly impressed. Maybe it's worse on the other end?

Is it? I am relatively sure that the minimum map altitude change is 1 meter. You can do very detailed terrain in CMx2, also dont forget that the actual micro terrian is abstracted (as i believe) as a numerical value connected to the texture of an action spot. In my experience though one problem of creating a map with lots and lots of altitude changes is that each altitude change means additional polygons and additional polygons draw performance.

agusto,

If this hasn't changed, then I believe you're right.

"The height grid is set at a 1m resolution across the map, but the actual height at each point on that grid can actually be set down to the millimetre I believe....what it means is there can only be a height indicated every 1m in any direction. The actual hight specified can be anything you want down to a millimeter. This means if you want a gentle slope for 100m with a max height of 1m, you can do this. Each meter the height would go up by a single mm so that every meter traveled would only increase your elevation by 1mm.

Terrain grid is 1m x 1m, but every 1m a height can be assigned of between 1 and 100mm. This means that you can have a 100m long slope with the high point being 1m."

Damn, those tank crews don't have much of a chance the way those T-whatevers light up after being hit.

That one video shows quite a few scenes of rebels being cut down on street corners by small arms fire. Is the average Syrian soldier equipped with an ACOG like device on their rifles, or are they just good marksmen?

I'm not sure about the Syrian army being great shots, but, if you keep popping out from the same corner all you have to do is place your sights and wait... Some of the other stuff I reckon is more sniper fire i.e. precision fire but it is made easier by what appears from the FSA guys as repetitive behaviours, bound to get someone killed.

I've watched more than a few and it has really drummed home just how squalid and nasty combat is. Bit like a really large bar brawl but with bigger bangs and gorier wounds...

Can't view videos out here in the woods as internet is way to slow.

Some of the hits I have seen in the videos before concur with "if you keep popping out from the same corner..." your probability of getting hurt and or worse increases a lot. When you add the armor / RPGs / HMGs and occasional fanatical "aggressive action" all in very close quarters .... nasty combat for sure.

Shows how most tank v's tank is a question of stalking and killing a target who probably isn't aware of your presence. Something CM2 does better than CM.

Also shows why soldiers are burned out after two weeks of combat, the stress of having to watch everywhere and watch out for everything is etched in their faces. It's why professional soldiers endlessly train, so it becomes second nature. I'm aware of changing points of entry or observation, but after 2-3 days of little sleep and the stress of combat, I'd probably forget and get my head blown off.

Either that or they have been watching too many Rambo/Chuck Norris movies (very popular in the ME)
