Delta228
lol I really, really, really want to use Normal Dude's test Firing Ranges to pit Challenger IIs and M1A2s against each other!
purpheart23
I want to use my squadies to blast syrian uncons into paradise. I'm there with you Waycool. Steve and company said that they were going to try and push it out for xmas but that was an extremely optimistic timeline for them. Then they gave us late January so my guess is we should be seeing some info coming in here shortly. dan/california
Is the Guided MLRS going to come with an additional artillery interface, or will it just be a point target that goes boom very reliably? The ability to nuke square kilometers would be okay too.
Nicdain
Really promising this British module! Can't wait! Are we going to see some preview of soldiers, too?
flamingknives
I don't know how BFC are planning to do it, but GMLRS is unitary warhead only, so the effect would be little different to a 250lb GPS aircraft-dropped bomb. That a single launcher carries 12 and launchers always seem to operate in pairs might be a bit different though. On top of that, Mr. flamingpicky would like to point out that the original Accuracy International PM rifle was the L96. The L96A1 features a variable magnification sight (4-12x, IIRC) and is a product improved weapon - the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare model

-Eddie-
I'm liking the Snatch Vixen (2) but I can't help but wonder when these will be used in the game. The British military doctrine is all about manoeuvrability and firepower, reasoning that if you can move quickly and put down enough fire then you can overcome the enemy, so would these be used more than the Marines use the AAVs or the U.S. Army use the Stryker? The Royal Marines even started chucking their plates away from the new Osprey body armour a few years ago when they couldn't position the butt of the rifle against their shoulders properly. Link As for the Jackal, I'm not sure how much firepower you'll be putting on it and also how often it breaks down.. Anyway, very nice update and I can't wait for this module:)
Combatintman
Well you are in a democracy of 1 for liking the Snatch - it is not well liked and has been slated for 'unnecessary' casualties by various sections of the media over here - some of it is over-egged but a lot of it holds weight.
-Eddie-
I didn't say I like the Snatch operationally, but I do like the renders. Sorry for any confusion.
Combatintman
I agree - the models are very good - like every model I've seen so far in the announcements - I can't wait for the module.
Wicky
Cheers for posting that link to the 5 parter with the hi-def option - interesting insight into 'Ice Cold in Afghanistan' Good pub the Fox & Fiddler - great Real Ale! You changed it! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BkBVIEt_hMg ... As for the Jackal, I'm not sure how much firepower you'll be putting on it and also how often it breaks down.. -Eddie-
I changed the link as it was all in one and is played in HQ as standard:p But yes, a very good insight into the Pathfinder Platoon, I always thought of them as more of a LRR group but they seem to have adapted a special forces 'lite' role, which is no bad thing!
vincere
Last I heard was that the Brits were developing a battalion based on the US Rangers. Their main role was going to be providing support to spec ops. It's been awhile since I heard anything about it. Just got this quote from Brit army website. It seems that 1 Para are performing the rols "On completion of your first 2 years in 2 or 3 PARA you may be selected for a tour with 1 PARA who form the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG). The SFSG provides specialist infantry support to Special Forces, such as the SAS, anywhere in the world. The basic skills required to serve in 1 PARA are those you will have gained in your training and during your time in 2 or 3 PARA. You will receive further training on additional weapons, communications equipment and specialist assault skills. Soldiers within the Parachute Regiment will rotate through the SFSG during their careers to ensure that advanced military skills, found nowhere else in the infantry, are maintained throughout the 3 Battalions."
Combatintman
Propaganda at best in my view - SFSG was a fudge by the last CGS to maintain 3 Parachute Battalions.
-Eddie-
Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) is comprised of 1st Battalion the Parachute Regiment, 1st Battalion the Rifles, a platoon (30 men) from 2 Sqn, RAF Regiment, and *reportedly* F Coy, Royal Marines Of course, the Army still asks why the RAF are part of the SFSG, and sometimes it's hard to tell where the joking ends and the serious questions start. Edit already - Seems the 1st Battalion the Rifles isn't listed, though I'm pretty sure it was/is part of SFSG, unless they were chucked out?
vincere
Propaganda at best in my view - SFSG was a fudge by the last CGS to maintain 3 Parachute Battalions. Para's will always bat for paras, and yep no doubt that cap badge waving politics may have been a factor for the 1 Para SFSG arrangement. I remember that the initial spark to look at this was the operation to free hostages in Serria Leone. I'm a bit out of date with the average platoon organisation. Anyone here up to date? My current understanding is 8 man sections (squad) with the folloing: two fire teams of: SA80 with GL LMG LSW SA80 with GL However, I believe many squads hump a GPMG?
