The obligatory military service thread. Where and when.

in Finland it varies quite a bit depending on your role and training, but theoretically you should have some 5 days of training (read: take part in a military exercise) in every 5 years. so yes, that's an amazing whole one (1) day of training per year by average, and in reality even less for most. it's nothing even remotely close to US system with monthly and annual training, but then again the whole system is very different (in Finland 90% of males receive military training, which creates a constant flow of fresh reservists that far exceeds actual wartime needs).

voluntary extra training courses are relatively popular though. annually some 36 000 reservists take part in those, while only some 25 000 (and often less) are called to take part in official military exercises mentioned above.

Well in Finland at least it depends where your war time placement will be or has it been "fixed". I have had training periods once per year. Sometimes a couple of years in between.

You can take voluntary courses if you want and have free time. Many reservist organizations also have an access to army firing ranges so that you can keep up your shooting skills.

What's the point? Just because you guys spent some of your time in the army are you supposed to be bringing gravitas to this shambles?

Didn't start this thread for you. If you don't like it don't post. There is absolutely no need to be an ass when no one is pissing in your gravy.

I do not believe that there is a single indication that this thread is supposed to somehow add something to the game or the forum. If you want to post something asking how many people have worked in fast food then by all means do so. As it stands I asked a question, people answered. </font>

Could not avoid the mandatory draft here in Austria but was lucky to get a not fit for combat duty rating. smile.gif Which is good However was unlucky enough to get a fit for admin duty rating. Which is bad.

So as a good soldier I cut my losses and looked for another strategy :D

Let some time pass and then before I had to report for service I told them that my eyesight deteriorated even more since the draft. So I got an appointment for a redraft and had to spend another 2 days in the barracks which was bad

However, a eye specialist who is a friend briefed me well enough to get my eyesight result to a not fit for military service level which is good :D

So mission accomplished :D

Overall our (finns) refresment traning has dragged behind the intented amount whole time after ww2.

For NCOs and officers the amount is 100 days of refresment traning in whole time while being in reserves... That would mean 5 days for every year during 20 years (of course there's still lovely 20 years in reservetimes ahead, but old guys in that age aren't much fit to fight anymore). For privates and such the amount was maybe 75 days. Amount of days used in average is much less... like said earlier by undead reindeer cavalry.

Finnish system counts on the fact that a conflict which would involve Finland does not erupt from nowhere. The troops will be gradually called to service and extensively trained if such crisis evolves into armed conflict.

In WWII it worked. I do not know for today.

There are also troops with many levels of readiness.

Dial it down, metalbrew. Aside from butting into something that doesn't concern you, you've taken swipes at Rob and myself in different threads in an unprovoked manner, not to mention you have absolutely no more authority or say in who gets banned around here than Rob, myself, or anyone else not on staff at BF.C. Based on your attack-dog style, I'd gently suggest you are in far more danger of being banned than Rob is.
