The Calgary Highlanders, 1987 to present, all part-time.

R871 (Piper) - from TOS to 1994

R8?? (Fin Clk) - 1994-1999

R8?? (RMS Clk) - 2000-present

Served throughout Gulf War I; not one Iraqi tank made it past Mcleod Trail here in Calgary. Overseas service was one month in the UK in 1990 rehearsing for the Scottish Divison Beating Retreat on Horse Guards.

Awarded Canadian Forces Decoration and Alberta Centennial Medal; hold the rank of Henchman in the Clan of the Gallant Canadians for regimental service as webmaster and founding the 10th Battalion Calgary Highlanders Association Heritage Section.

In the field, have been employed as storesman, signaller, driver, and rifleman.

Last promotion, to corporal, sometime in the 1980s. Makes me look like a slow learner, but still having too much fun in the ranks. Currently employed as Regimental Clothing Stores NCO. Not a bad spot for someone who's published two books on Canadian Army uniforms.

I was a member of the United States Naval Service from Sept 19th, 1969 to Sept 12th, 1975. A period of 5 years 11 months and 24 days.

I archived through the grace of God and the oversight of the Bureau of Personnel the lofty Rate and Rating of Electronics Technician Radar Second Class.

(For the nautically challenged thats an E-5; for the US Military Enlisted Pay Grade challenged it equivalent to a 3 stripe Sgt in the US Army or USMC)

I volunteered twice for duty in the Republic of Viet Nam, but both times the Bureau of Personnel determined that my services were absolutely indispensable to keeping the Red Banner Fleet away from New Jersey.

Served on:

USS Agile MSO-421

USS Sierra AD-18 (Pronounced SEA-ERROR by some wags)

USS Holder DD-819

Entered the Naval Service from Collingdale Penna.
