Panzer76
CMBB hands down.
Guest
Does SEAL Team count? Great wargame, great simulation. Otherwise I'd have to go with a tie between XCOM, SP and TOAW in terms of play time. Honestly, any game that is (or that I can turn into) a sandbox game is likely to devour a massive amount of my time.
Dirtweasle
Any chance someone could post a link to the thread over there? Been a while since I cruised that forum. Hmmm, over all if I had to pick one and just one? CMx1 OK, that's a series... so it would have to be CMBB. Why? Replayability. Even Harpoon and MOO2, which are close, and I love those two games, do not have the same staying power. Steel Panthers... no reverse.
thewood
SP has reverse I thought. either spwaw or spww2, can't remember.
DzrtFox
Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank (SP:MBT) has reverse. And I totally agree with anyone who ranks the Steel Panthers series among the best of all-time also. The fact that they're free makes them even better!!
Guest
SP:MBT. Yeeeessss. I still have the latest version of that installed on every Windows comp in my house.
DzrtFox
Dirtweasle if you just go to wargamer.com there is a link from the main page to the thread... Just look over on the right side where it shows the most recent forum posts.
Woodey
CMBB Close Combat II Carriers at War So much fun...
Manx
CMBB. Shame about what's followed. The sooner BFC get back to what they are best at, the better.

Paper Tiger
Yeah, I'd have to go with CMBB too. However, there's another old Amiga title called 'Action Stations' that simulated WW2 Naval combat really well. Can't remember who published it though. That one really blew me away too. I'd still be playing it now if I still had my Amiga.
Sgt_K
CMAK Sid Meir's Gettysburg Mech Brigade I'd put CMSF on the list, if they can ever fix it!
kipanderson
Hi, Yup…CMBB by a huge margin… Happily there is to be an Eastern Front CMX2 so lets hope the engine has matured enough by then to more than equal CMBB . All the best, Kip.
Paper Tiger
Kip: Happily there is to be an Eastern Front CMX2 so lets hope the engine has matured enough by then to more than equal CMBB . Wow, that's the best piece of news I've read on these boards in a long time.
retired1
For "Paper Tiger" Action Stations was by RAW Entertainment. It won wargame of the year in 1990. I just reloaded it on a XP machine and it played fine in a DOS box. You do need the manual because of the copy protection. You might be able to find it on the web.

I don't believe there has ever been an official announcement of an Eastern Front CMx2 game. Steve always said the market wasn't there for Eastern Front but as the BFC team personally liked the setting it might happen. I don't recall him ever saying it definitely would happen or was even planned.
Popfreak
Hi all, I must say that my favorite game of all time was a long long time ago. It was called AV8B Harrier Assualt, and the a later updated version called SVGA Harrier Assualt. Basically you were a Harrier pilot flying support of a USMC MEU assulting the island of Timor. It was alot of fun. Here is a link to a download page, but I cannot get it to work. I would forever be in your graces if one of your computer heads could try downloading it and get it to work. Thanks, Pop http://www.migman.com/ref/1990_combat/SVGAHarrier/SVGAHarrier.htm
SgtMuhammed
For me it is a close tie between Red Baron and CMAK with the ETO mod. I loved Mech Brigade as well and the original M1 Tank Platoon and Harpoon round out my top 5.
kipanderson
Hi, yup...Steve did post that there is to be an Eastern Front version of CMX2... sometime after his posts along the lines that the market for Eastern Front games is a niche market and not what we may think. I too responded by posting that it was the best news I had heard about CMX2. All the best, Kip.

Because of that I had huge hopes for CM:SF, but so far I haven't exactly been thrilled. I'm still hanging on to a slim hope though!! (although it is growing slimmer by the day) I imagine you already know this but a third party has patched Myth I and II to run on XP. I played some LAN games with my brother when he was visiting a month ago and it was like old times. Except I actually won a couple lol!
Itael
Is there any chance to see "Flight Commander 3"? Pretty Please? FC2- http://www.migman.com/ref/1990_combat/FC2/FC2.htm was one of the BEST games I played, and if I am not mistaken it was made by the same guys who brought us Combat Mission?
Sixxkiller
Best Wargames. Panzer General- Paid $5k to play a $39 game. Never be able to say that again. Down in Flames- Simple and addictive. Seal Team- No wragame ever deserved an update more! Fleet Defender- First time I heard "Fox 3", I almost fell out my chair. Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear- Still the best multi-player shooter ever. PDW, nuff said. CMBO (Demo release day) OMG, only day in 20 years I was ever late to the range. Operation Flashpoint- Best feel of real combat and so fun to create scenarios.
J.R.
It's interesting that no one mentioned any of the old Talonsoft games. The Civil War ones were quite good I thought, especially Shiloh. For me: 1. CM series 2. V4V (still play it especially Market-Garden) 3. Talonsoft Civil War series 4. Harpoon

Londoner
Although the Eastern Front and CMBB is where it's at, it's gotta be CMAK for the tweaks!
