Thomm
... but at the same time the development of the next Combat Mission title will start this year already. Beyond that, we're looking at a complete engine rewrite, ...Does that last paragraph mean that there will be a CM3 before CM II (the rewrite?) MikeyD
Hmmmm... That's how I read it too! I wouldn't mind that at all, to get a Mediterranean theatre conflict or Cold War series in before the rewrite, especially considering the CMII rewrite probably wouldn't run on my old slow machine. Col Deadmarsh
I hope that's the case since I would like to see the entire Western Front re-done first on the new engine so the graphics are the most up to date for that theatre.

James Crowley
Any news on this? While the engine rewrite is being produced (2 yrs or more?) it could make a lot of (financial)sense for BFC to recycle CMBO in CMBB colours, as it were (fairly minimal work)or produce a Med version (obviously a bit more work but with the advantage of a new theatre) Then the rewrite could incorporate all three, maybe. Not too sure about the "other time periods" bit.
Sigurd
I created a "CM3 before the engine rewrite" thread to discuss this matter, go to this new thread [ December 05, 2002, 10:21 AM: Message edited by: Sigurd ]
Tarquelne
A lot of research goes into the CM games, doesn't it? Pretty easy to imagine "development" starting NOW, continuing during the engine rewrite, and ending with the completion of the new engine. Was the quote "development of the next Combat Mission title will start this year already. Then we'll finish the game. Beyond that, we're looking at a complete engine rewrite, ..."? I didn't think so....
Vanir Ausf B
... but at the same time the development of the next Combat Mission title will start this year already. Beyond that, we're looking at a complete engine rewrite, ...I would guess that he means the research will begin this year, with the engine rewrite beginning some time latter. Steve has stated on a number of occasions that CMBB will be the last game using the current engine. I can see why people get into making games. It must be a real ego boost to have people hanging on every word you utter.
Sigurd
year, like Greenspan's statements : zillions of economics journalist will argue of "did he mean he will cut the interests rates of another quarter, or keep the same ones ?"... Year, time for Martin to move to another job...
Terrapin
Will there be MP5 and PSG-1s in the new game? I sure hope so.

jmbunnelle
I'm hoping for a Med game to round out the series. That would make it complete. Gotta have closure, ya know. I can't even imagine how great an Anzio or Cassino scenario would be.
Battlefront.com
Dear Tealeaf Readers When we are ready to specify what exactly we plan on doing, you'll be the first to know.
