  1. I've messed around with the shortcut parameters, and I can't get this game to run in windowed mode. Is it possible? I have a widescreen laptop and it stretches otherwise. Thanks!
  2. Hey Kuniworth, glad to see that you're still around here and vocal about where you think the series should go. Speaking of my old mods, you wouldn't have a copy of my counter mod still around, would you? Lost mine in a harddrive crash years ago. If so, email address is jbunnelle7__at__yahoo.com. Thanks!
  3. LOL Sure, no problem. I'll check my contact info at Matrix, thanks for the heads-up on that. Probably outdated.
  4. Errr...can anyone send me my mod? jbunnelle7__at__yahoo.com. Long gone from a harddrive crash from ages ago. Glad to hear it's still floating about. Just reinstalling this great game.
  5. Hi all. Haven't been around here in ages but got nostalgic for SC after playing Road to Victory. I was a beta tester for SC2 but couldn't play it after release because of technical conflicts with my p.c. that were probably related to a driver update. Finally got frustrated and just gave up. So I'm considering purchasing the pack now and diving in. I'd hoped Road to Victory would give me the feeling once given by SC1. But it's clunky and feels incomplete. I mean, they forgot to put Malta on the map (fixed with a quickly-released patch). That being said, it is ambitious and seems to be well-supported by the developers. The problem I had with SC2 was that it felt a bit schizophrenic, trying to attract new players--nothing wrong with that--with its use of the isometric CIV3 view while keeping the original hardcore fanbase. I felt like I could never "see" everything strategically. Or maybe I just love the hex format too much. For any SC3, I would go back to the basics. SC1 seemingly came out of nowhere and was a criminally addictive combination of bare-bones design and strategic complexity. It synthesized Axis & Allies with classic Avalon Hill and was created by someone who craved that as much as we did. The graphics were archaic and dated as hell, but you couldn't stop playing long enough to worry about it. I see that SC2's AI has become topnotch through patches and expansions; can't wait to try that out. My dream product for SC3 would be a European map 4x larger than SC1 with expanded research options and a wider range of more specific units, with SC2's AI and plenty of "chrome". I always thought the instant tech upgrades for all units was too easy, so you'd have to pay points to upgrade each. Bump up the number of variables and theater-specific events/options as well. Nothing as huge as HOI2, mind you. But a bit more than simple "declare war" options. I'd avoid the Pacific and factor it in through events, as I think the AI gets worse with the whole WW2 enchilada going at once.
  6. Hey Kuniworth, nice to see you're still around here. Sure, I'll see what I can do. I hadn't considered modding the units this time around because the default ones look good to my eyes. To be honest, I haven't been able to play the game much because of ongoing conflicts between the licensing system and my computer, despite the sincere efforts of both Battlefront and the licensing firm. So all I have is my old pre-AI beta functioning at the moment. I'll see what I can do about the minefield thing. Speaking of mods, I saw a hex overlay recently but had trouble downloading it. Do you have a working link for that?
  7. Hi all, I was thinking about starting work on a slightly revised map that would give the ground a little additional texture, kind of like I did with the European/Australian release of SC. Are there any new maps already out there? Don't want to reinvent the wheel if that's the case.
  8. I tried to use my license key to reinstall my game (digital download, not CD) on a new computer and I get an Error 11 message that tells me it's no longer valid. Any advice?
  9. Looks sweet, Hubert, can't wait! Has the hex system been abandoned?
  10. Well, I like it because it reminds me of PanzerBlitz.
  11. Exactly. And let's not forget the partisans that caused major headaches for the Northern Republic.
  12. Ah, I always loved the Italians due to their penchant for surrendering in NA. A true sign of their superior intelligence and fiercely democratic spirit, IMHO. Shows how much their heart was really behind Fascism and Il Duce. Highly democratic societies (no, the U.S. doesn't count) always produce sh***y soldiers because they ask too many questions and don't follow orders. "Yes, but WHY do I want to charge into that artillery barrage?" LOL
  13. Panzer39, Sure, two sets is no problem. Jim
  14. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if anyone here is still using it, but I've made a small update to my Force-Specific Icons mod. Upon first release, many people had requested that I reduce the size of my HQ flags, so I have done this, based on the dimensions of Jorgen's. I've also altered the Soviet T-34 and KV1 to a winter whitewashed scheme in order for them to stand out against the background better. Version 1.3 will probably be a total overhaul. Look for it in a month or so. Here's the link to 1.25: JBUNNELLE'S FORCE-SPECIFIC ICONS [ June 12, 2003, 01:33 PM: Message edited by: jmbunnelle ]
  15. Ah, no matter when I drop in here, I can always count on one COS thread on the first page. Strangely comforting in its predictability. Like the red spot on Jupiter or the babies on toilet paper.
  16. Kuniworth, Welcome back, even though I've been absent for a long time and had no idea you'd been booted. I remember your posts from when the forum began and they were always funny and insightful. Glad to know you're still around. I'm also glad everyone stood up for you, even those you'd had disagreements with. It says a lot about the SC community. Jim
  17. Damn, very nice work, I'm impressed! Printing it now.
  18. I do. It mostly has to do with paying $50.00 for an item that was not remotely finished... in fact, was a muddled mess. Perhaps there are those who don't mind throwing away hard earned cash, but I am not one of them. And it has everything to do with providing a product that didn't match the exalted claims, not by a long shot. The ONLY way the word will get around about extremely shoddy merchandise, is... if someone makes it quite evident that they do not care for this kind of sloppy marketing, yes? Nothing wrong with that. </font>
  19. Congratulations on a very fine piece of work. The over-all impression is one of... subtle grandeur. If you are also working on the map for SC2, I wish you luck... and, think... LARGE! (... to include most of Scandanavia, Persia, South Atlantic to mid-Africa, and... all the way to the mighty Mississipp! </font>

  21. The learning curve isn't that bad, no worst than any well developed 4X game. My problem was the Air and Naval combat models, especially regarding carriers were broken. The game is still on my HD and I'm hoping the next patch, which it seems we've been waiting for a long time, will address this. </font>
  22. Holy CoW! its Mister Bunelle! Back from the dead? or Just stoping in? </font>
  23. Congrats on this project coming together, Hubert!
