Charlie901
Is it true there are no German Elephants in this game? I've read that they were heavily utilized in the Italian Theater and was wondering if they are expected in a later module to supplement the base game?
Darknight (DC)
CMFI is only the Americans (Allied) and Germans/Italians (Axis) in Sicily....so far. Additional modules will likely follow to cover the Commonwealth forces in Sicily/Italy and vehicles that were present in the mainland fighting (ie Panther, Sherman 105mm, Elephant, etc).

JasonC
Heavily utilized? A grand total of 11 Elephants were sent to the Italian theater after the Anzio landings (February 1944). All in the 653 Panzerjager battalion. 4 of them were lost by March, to things like mines, engine fires, collapsing bridges, etc. Another 4 lived until June and the fighting around Rome (the breakout period), then died to air attacks, more inability to negotiate Italian bridges (70 tons is not what those were built to carry), and mechanical troubles. By late June only 2 were left. The unit was then sent back to German to re-equip with Jadgtigers. This means there are less than a dozen at early Anzio, half a dozen at the breakout fighting period, and none thereafter. If that counts as "heavily utilized", what terms would you use to describe, say, the use of Shermans?
MikeyD
The Elephant story sounds like a mirror of the Tiger I story in Sicily. From 14 (I think) whittled down to just one escaping to the mainland. Most lost early, too, due to bad luck and no recovery capability as opposed to enemy action.
LongLeftFlank
I suspect he meant this way cool early German uberpanzer was used here about as intensively as anyplace short of the north pincer of Zitadelle. Face it, a lot of CMers, of all ages and grognard levels like to play around with the cool ubertanks now and then..... Nothing wrong with that.
Michael Emrys
Some day I want to play "Hornet's Nest" again, only without borg spotting this time around. Then it might play out the way I imagine it should. Michael
Davek555
Well they did weigh 65 tons...that might be what he meant by "heavily" utilized. I hope they get in the game too..the more toys to play with the better.
John Kettler
Charlie901, The information you've been given is correct, but the Elephants not yet available to you in CMFI were first Ferdinands which survived Kursk--barely. The handful of survivors got the sorely missed bow MG, a cupola, other tweaks and a new name. Here's a beautifully externally restored (nonfunctional--sniff) SdKfz 184 Elefant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Elefant_USAOM-01.jpg This Russian WW II Photo Archive has some rare footage of Ferdinands at Kursk. All I'd ever seen before this were a few stills. Regards, John Kettler
Macisle
Wonderful photo gallery, John. Thanks for posting that! Now, I sure am a-hankerin' for the east front family, though... What's the current guess on how many months to go on that?
newlife
Those look like serious shot traps if that's the front. I assume at 70 tons it has some armor to compensate. Anyone know the details on that?
womble
Wikipedia says 200mm. That enough for ya?

In time we both will be able to play it again.
