sburke
Hello guys! I have a question: how can i order a sqad to recover weapon or ammo from fallen comrades? You can't "order" them to do so, just move them to the location and if they are not under fire they will attempt to render buddy aid on their own.
Erwin
Wot sburke said.... However, there is no guarantee that a weapon or ammo will be recovered.

Sarge
probably covered, and complained elsewhere but i have a moment to add 2pfennings.. a 60mm mortar crew has its gun KO'd... ammo shows intact... a 2d 60mm crew has used up its ammo... i move the tube-less crew to the ammo-less gun- expecting them to share and put the tube back in action... nope.. no such coverage in the programming unless i'm over looking some method to force this to happen ('acquire' was greyed out)
Erwin
It would be good if the "acquire" feature were improved for many reasons. But, IIRC currently for ammo acquiring/sharing to occur the units have to be from the same platoon. If the two mortars were from the same platoon then...(?) Let's hope future CM versions allow more flexibility with ammo acquiring and sharing.

And US leg infantry have their 60mm mortars grouped in "4th platoon", while Armoured Infantry have one 60 per platoon. So if they're Armoured Infantry, the mortars won't share. It's a generalisation that sometimes makes sense and sometimes doesn't.
Ts4EVER
I've actually seen Germans with Italian rifles due to this.
womble
I've actually seen Germans with Italian rifles due to this. That's pretty cool. Hopefully, they only traded in pistols...
Ts4EVER
I think so, yes. Although, technically one could make a case for the Carcano being superior to the K98k ingame on account of the 6 round mag.

At least in the game, it's seems distinct to me that the lighter round simply doesn't get through buildings as well as the 30-06 or 7.92mm.

Let's hope future CM versions allow more flexibility with ammo acquiring and sharing. It's not tied to the level (section, platoon, company) but whether or not the units are immediately under the same HQ. For example, if mortars have intermediate Section HQs, then only mortars in each Section will share, not all mortars in the Platoon. Likewise, if three mortars are attached directly to a Company HQ, all three of these mortars will share ammo, but they will not share ammo with mortars in a subordinate platoon. Ammo sharing is unrelated to ammo recovery through buddy aid (which is currently affected by a bug that should be fixed in next version).
womble
It's not tied to the level (section, platoon, company) but whether or not the units are immediately under the same HQ. Aha! Thank you for clarifying that.
Erwin
Yes, thanks... Useful to know. So, the rule is that only mortars under the same immediate HQ can share ammo. Is that also true for on-map guns? What about HMG crews? (I can't recall... do they ever abandon their HMG's and walk away with lots of ammo or stick with their HMG's to the last man?)

Bartokomus
they might not abandon but they will get knocked out status, and still have 1K rounds on them.

Mortars, IGs, ATGs, bearer units, infantry squad elements, L/M/HMG teams and other specialists.
Erwin
Just to extra clarify, if you have an HMG team that's had its HMG KO'd so they are wandering around as inf with thousands of rounds, they can provide ammo to another HMG so long as it is in the same section (eg: German HMG sections usually have an HQ HMG team plus a 2nd HMG team), but NOT to another HMG team from a different section even if they share the same Platoon HQ? Or, is the Platoon HQ defined as their "immediate HQ"? So all 4 HMG crews could share ammo with each other(?)

Don't know if it counts "teams which are more than just command teams but do have HQ functions" as "delimiters" in the sharing heirarchy.
Erwin
Yeah, I was hoping that someone had experienced having had his HMG's abandoned etc. Hard to duplicate since it involves firing at an HMG unit till it's KO'd which usually kills the team as well. The CM2 manual is well written, but sadly doesn't contain much of this sort of useful info. Well, anyone who has had HMG's abandoned or KO'd in a scenario with team members surviving plz let us know.

Erwin
So, that is the Section HQ which is an HMG unit itself? (ie: Not a separate section HQ unit ico 2 HMG units.)
Vanir Ausf B
I think section HQs in the same platoon can share with each other but not with units subordinate to another section HQ. Again, I haven't tested to be sure.
WynnterGreen
ammo recovery through buddy aid (which is currently affected by a bug that should be fixed in next version). Is this the reason why when you buddy aid an infantryman and recover a bazooka or shrek the aider INFURIATINGLY never takes the rockets, except for the one in the pipe????

The gun doesn't have to be unserviceable to see whether they share. Just look see if the total available ammo is greater than the ammo carried when the elements are within sharing distance.
