  1. I figured the M60 commanders were just playing around with their mini-turret. Gotta be doing something after all. I haven't seen 155/152mm knock out a tank that I remember, but I have seen them immobilized and with severe systems damage. I have seen 155/152mm & 120mm kill passengers and even knock out APCs. H
  2. Yep. Sometimes a little tech buys a lot of effect. The earlier Sov tanks retrofitted with laser range finders are damn scary in '79. They can get the range faster than you can with your M48s and M60A1s and their HEAT will take out the American tanks pretty reliably. H
  3. Here's an example of the spotting game going the other way: H
  4. ‘79 is a horror show as you bounce Dragons and tank main gun rounds off T64s and T72s. Meantime everything AT will punch right though the front armor of a M60. RPGs, SPG9s, and everything else with more penetrating power than a pointy stick. H
  5. One thing I have done with Sov armor is to get the crews out. Get the crews out, let them get spots, then get them remounted. The crews are much harder to spot than their vehicles are and once they have radios again they can share spots with the rest of the formation. H
  6. From my notes on fighting like the Soviets: 1) Time spent on recon is never wasted. 2) Time and resources spent killing enemy recon is never wasted. 3) Have a plan and execute it. 4) The artillery fire plan dictates the maneuver plan. The maneuver plan dictates the fire plan. These must be mutually supportive. 5) A company of Sov tanks spots better than any single German/American tank. 6) Take away the better spotting offered by the NATO habit of fighting unbuttoned. Get them heads down to decrease their situational awareness. 7) When you attack, attack! Don't poke him with one finger at a time. Make a fist and crush the enemy with overwhelming force. 10) Use a platoon to crush a squad > use a company to crush a platoon >> use a battalion to crush a squad. Fair fights are for suckers. 9) Keep pressing attacks until they aren't feasible anymore, but don't reinforce failure. The Germans/Americans never have enough troops/tanks. 10) Just because you have mass doesn't mean the only way forwards is a frontal assault. There are other ways to win that don't involve sticking your dick into the meat grinder until it jams. Recon routes that bypass the enemy, the Germans/Americans never have enough troops/tanks to cover every avenue of approach. Infantry infiltration is a thing. 11) Take you time, don't be in a rush to die. You'll probably run out of people, tanks, and/or ammo before you run out of time. H
  7. Who publishes maps using miles outside the US? It'd be like trying to submit a scientific paper using pounds and inches. Good luck with that. H
  8. I haven't tried this exact matchup but from what I remember the BMP3 was designed to take hits from 30mm auto cannon from the front. The BMP3 also has design features to mitigate penetrating hits, like the front location the fuel tank. Hapless did a video about the BMP3 on Youtube but I don't think this matchup was included. OTOH, the BMP3 is still, hands down, the best VBIED in the game. H
  9. German metal bands would work too... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:German_heavy_metal_musical_groups Intent of mission: Clear objectives Stahlmann, Compressorhead, & Klabautamann. Rally and hold objective Pink Cream 69 against enemy counter attack.
  10. For the Germans, go with Kulture: Characters from German operas, German composers, German writers... For amusement value include Austrian figures of the same in with the German ones. H
  11. Downloaded and I'l be tucking into it directly. H
  12. When you're running a criminal government crime & politics become inextricable. H
  13. Gills so the tank can breathe while crossing rivers. H
  14. Ah yea, the good old chain cook off. Turns out stuffing a thinly armored vehicle with a **** load of explosives can have consequences. H
  15. It's all about the the party (Putin Party) line. You must repeat what the Maximum Leader wants to hear and strive to outdo the others in the Inner Party to show your loyalty. If you don't you're liable to fall down some stairs or out of a window. There are some downsides to running a government this way. H
  16. A little bit of Chinese ammo leaking in via 3rd parties can remain deniable by the Chinese, just the same way that recently manufactured Western electronics found in Iranian drones are considered 'leakage' w/o anyone calling for sanctions against Phillips or Siemens. Entire ships or trains worth of munitions would be much more easily trackable and much less deniable, which is why I don't think the Chinese would go that route. Much better to keep buying oil & gas at a steep discount and make the Russian economy even more dependent on the Chinese w/o taking any big risks. H
  17. In the long run the Russian war just accelerates Russia turning into a client state. That gives the Chinese access to The Northern Resources Area without having to look bad by invading to 'protect the Han people living north of the border' or some such pretext. Even better the Russians can be made to pay for their tighter integration into the Chinese economy as the Russians don't have much of a choice. H
  18. Vehicles will block small arms fire. In the various titles I generally want infantry to keep some distance from the armor. 1) If the infantry are leading they might get the drop on enemies with relatively short ranged AT rockets. 2) If the armored vehicle gets hit and blows up* the infantry doesn't get suppressed and killed. H *This is even more important with the modern titles and BMP3s. I am convinced that the BMP3 remains the best VBIED in the game.
  19. I found out about the firing ports on the BMP being very functional when a BMP did a drive by on a M113 I had hiding around the corner of a building. One of the passengers managed to kill the M113 gunner before he could get a shot off... H
  20. I just tried CMBN on Ventura 13.2.1 and it opens & runs w/o any problems. H
  21. In general, my take on a cold war gone hot situation is that airplanes that depend on functioning airfields would become very scarce very quickly. 1) I'd expect airbases to be heavily targeted by deep strikes by aircraft & by short range ballistic missiles targeting infrastructure. It doesn't matter how good the F15 is compared to the Mig 21 if all the bases fuel is burning out and the runway is cratered. 2) I'd also expect attrition to be very high on both sides. NATO AA air sorties would down a lot of WP planes & helos and WP SAM coverage & AAA was no joke. I think the combination of 1 & 2 would make CAS a pretty scarce asset to actually have access to for both sides. H
  22. After this much time their tactical dispersion is still ****e. I think the UA did kill all the professionals last year and this year they are killing the amateurs. H
  23. Better than if Microsoft made Javelin. Clippy "It looks like you're trying to top attack at T72. Do you want some help?" H
  24. And now for a completely different problem. My vehicles are getting stuck on the 1st bridge along the main highway. They had no waypoints on the bridge itself and I re-did orders after the 1st turn they got stuck. To clarify the 1st BMP on the bridge got stuck rubber banding and the other two are blocked by the 1st BMP.
