I didn't as I've never had to do this before.  I'll have another look.

Maybe, it is high on the 'hugeness scale' (sniggering and rolling of eyes).  However I've just loaded up 'No country for tanks' which is at the top of the charts in my CMBN, and it loaded without a problem.  Perhaps every man and their dogs are on map at the start of Ranville but not in No country...
I'll experiment a bit more as I've not had a scenario fail at the first hurdle before.

It’s a good scenario worth playing. Maybe too easy.
There are not all the German troops at the beginning but the map is very large.  Did you try with the lowest model and texture quality?

Hi Julian.  That's not actually a question 😉.
Can you right click on your shortcuts to get the location?  And maybe do the same for the start menu?  If they all point to the same place you can trash the other one (first checking for any additional content you might have added in the Z folder etc. that might not be in your 'correct' place).
That's probably a dim answer, forgive me if so.

And of course any saves, additional scenarios and campaigns you might have collected, and incoming and outgoing PBEM if you have any.  Have I missed anything?

Thanks Vacillator.  I've actually found yet another rogue copy on my HD.  I'm going to consolidate everything into one version in the right place and get rid of the rest. I will check in the z folder too!  Don't want to lose any mods.

I see your edit in the first post.  I'm just starting a PBEM in CW having never played it before.  It'll be okay won't it 🫣?
As for your question on a graphics mod, I don't know but others may...

I think they communicate, but if the mortar crew can't see the target (a unit or an area) I think they would have to be called in for indirect fire, which would take a few minutes.
I don't think they'll 'blindly' fire based on another spotter's info.

Thanks for the advice 👍.  I fully expect my good friend Dave to kick some, but I'll give it a go.  You never try, you never learn 😉.

Hmm, maybe. Especially if you've never played any of the modern or near-modern CM games before, and even more so if this is the era he's specifically trained for. I definitely felt some differences going from modern back to WW2, but I'm told the shock of going from WW2 to modern is much greater.
I'm guessing you're playing as the Soviets (presumably what Dave is "trained for" is fighting as the US)? You'll definitely want to watch out for the American artillery if that's the case. It's much more accurate and comes in much faster than WW2 artillery. And whichever side you're playing as, "effective ranges" are less of a concern than in WW2. Generally speaking if you can see it you can shoot it. That's definitely true of the fully modern titles, in which 1 shot 1 hit is almost a guarantee. In the Cold War you might encounter some distances in which your tanks might have a less than 50/50 chance of a first round hit. But you certainly won't encounter any distances in which the chance of a first round hit isn't dangerously high if you're on the receiving end (certainly won't get as low as a 10% chance of a first round hit).

That´s not how things work here.
Every unit needs to have a solid spot for direct fire. Units will carry their information to another units in their proximity that is right, but it only assists spotting nothing more.
Each unit has to see the target with their own eyes (or optics) before they can fire at it.
You mean some kind of so called "borg spotting": One unit sees a target, so everyone sees the target.
This was the system in CMx1 more or less, the older games, but in CMx2 it is no longer the case.

A few more very quick screenshots of the map progress. It's getting closer. When done, if there are any Afghanistan vets on the forums I would like to send the map to you to take a look at and recommend any improvements. I have tried to create a realistic map of this region as possible but I am open to any suggestions. As mentioned above nearly every meter of the map has micro terrain to battle through.

Of course this means that I now have five ongoing PBEMs (or at least I will @Vacillator once our game finally gets going). I really shouldn't accept any more until I start finishing some 😂.

You're talking about me now aren't you 😉?  We need a slight adjustment to our game and then it'll be plain sailing I'm sure.
That would not be an issue, anyone can beat anyone (at least when I'm involved).  What might be troublesome for me is that I'm yet to play either CW or BS.  Both of us are somewhat busy just now anyway but I'd be happy to oblige at some point once I can at least tell my RISEs from my non-RISEs (ooh err missus).

I've never used CM Helper but Whose Turn Is It handles moving the files to/from the appropriate CM folders. I found setting Whose Turn up a little confusing but once a game is underway it worked pretty smoothly.

    I thought so as well.
Hiding is not normally a good thing if you want a unit to spot (and communicate that).  I learned the lesson when I hid everyone and T34s rolled straight past my troops with PFs, no shots at all were taken at perhaps 10m range.

Possibly.  If it could be 'togglable' that keeps every bugger happy 😉.
Charles may have other things to think about though...

yes that seems to be an outlier ...500m ....heat rounds are best .......300-400m for ap rounds  200m being optimal kill range for ap , I did some small test samples , its essentially a shrek on steroids

I don't think there's any way to disable it right now. We could request to make building transparency togglable as a new feature in a future update, the way trees are currently togglable. But there's no guarantee that it would be feasible (every new bit of code risks conflicts with old code, potentially introducing new bugs), or that they would find time to do it even if it is feasible (they have limited resources and lots of other things they are also trying to do).

Adam, your question rate is impressive 😉.
I know what you mean, but I think it's intended to quickly show you that your units are in the building, or that enemy units (or part of) have been spotted in those buildings.  I occasionally find it unrealistic, but I don't have a suggestion on how to improve it.  Do you?

This is very simplified describing of this system ) I wrote several months ago about this. The system is not completed yet to be set around all country and cover all directions. Developers told they spent many time to teach AI to identify a sound of missile or drone among other sounds to avoid false alarms.
