In all of the Soviet warplans that we know of, NATO was the aggressor. They still all involve the Soviets rolling over Europe (so going on the offensive), but the stated cause was always external pressures.

Whether that's purely for political reasons is another question - to steal the Falklands as something easy to work with, I'm not sure the leadership would appreciate a scenario which ran: "owing to your mismanagement of economic policy, your rule has become unpopular, so you're looking for a quick win to shore up the credibility of your regime". 

Point being that regardless of the real reasons why Soviet forces could rumble through Europe, the end result would look pretty similar, I think.

It is way too early to glean any meaningful insight at this point. All info coming out of the war right now is sketchy at best. It’s going to take a while to truly confirm most of that information. This war needs its own post mortem first before it can be applied (if at all) to our hypothetical one. 

Perhaps we should extend NATO to the rest of the world. A kind of super NATO, membership restricted to respectable, democratic  countries. We're heading for a third world war with Russia and China in this century, of that I'm convinced.

I was thinking the same thing, in regards to NATO sharing lots of equipment. However, I think FRG vs NVA will come before BAOR, but that's my opinion. In addition, its possible it would be an FRG/Netherlands vs NVA/Poland, since lots of the equipment is pretty similar and both factions have a smattering of cool indigenous vehicle designs

Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. Just happy to have it and an unexpected cold surprise on top of that. But I hope we'll all get what we want. And to be honest I'm  looking forward to the future.

1) Going to have to use those tanks in not the best of conditions.
2) You have lots of time.
3) Remember the reserves that will come in.
4) The forces aren't central to the other battles so push them a bit hard.

Forest fighting against Soviet PPSh squads, the nightmare of every CM gamer. Can't wait to see how the MP44 equipped Sturmgrenadiere will do against them.

Logic would say you're never going to see Swedes or Koreans in this game. I'm not even sure they could fit US Marines into the title, though BFC loves their Marines. I suspect any Arab-Israeli battles are going to have to be cobbled together via the NTC region setting. I don't think Steve is particularly keen to invade Lebanon in 1982

I think a NATO module should include all other members.

That must also be torture. Fortunately Richthofen and you are stronger than I am. Waiting another week would probably have driven me mad. 🙂 But time flies.

Hoping for a NATO and NSWP forces module after the base game releases. Would flesh out the time period and the forces involved in a hypothetical 80s conflict very nicely. Another great module would perhaps be a late 80s early 90s module (situated at the twilight of the Cold War, if the USSR didn't collapse or instead decided to throw the dice in a final attack on Western Europe, as some allege they wanted to do).

I don't dance that good, but I could weep for joy. 😄
