I'll reply as well, ha!  @FlammenwerferX and I are still very much engaged in Metal on Metal.  It's pretty epic so far.  I think we are down to the last 17 minutes.
Around my other (3) PBEM's with @Fizou, RT, FB and BN, I have just really been enjoying FB and the new content.  It made me start the Aachen campaign...
    In you go boys!

All I can say is that George's scenarios will challenge you at every turn with surprises. It's not unreasonable behavior. A unit on the attack is going to plaster any suspected enemy locations either by direct or indirect fire, whether or not they spot anything. If nothing else you keep their heads down. Treelines are obvious targets where enemy might be expected.

@danfrodo only the best for my CM brothers!
I put these on the CMFB screenshots page but I just love the Chaffee so much (I seriously have a thing for light tanks for some reason) and Umlaut's new weathered mod rocks so I will share again here...

Sleeping indeed. I'm convinced there's a sick 'master plan' behind all this, which was thought out in Moscow and Peking. We can expect a lot more 'conflicts' and 'incidents'. Cold War all over again.

Guess who said this. World War 2 was just finished. "I have no particular desire to understand them except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them... the Russian has no regard for human life and they are all out sons-of-bitches, barbarians, and chronic drunks."

I don't think that you need that amount of explosive. The main reason why arty is so loaded because it needs to cover an area, drones pin point things. Tube arty is good for laying smoke as well, but i think mlrs are better for arty with drones. The drones can do the basic things you would use arty, against entrenched infantry, armored assaults, special weapons like atgm they simply much better than arty. So i would say that once they will have autonomy they will make company and platoon size arty support obsolete other than the smoke laying capability. With that i mean 81mm-120mm mortars. Above that its really about three things. Mining with arty, destroying a grid with amassed fire and fortification destruction.
Now two out of the three is better to be done with mlrs and the third can be done via planes. So i would say in the long term i don't think that howitzers and mortars gonna have a future, but mlrs systems will stay.

To mention this was unthinkable a generation ago. More and more people are thinking about this. EU as the fascists Russia and the US like WW2 the alliance against it. Real or imagined fascists doesn't matter.

In the CMBN Campaign 'Sie Kommen II - Allies' there is a battle called 'Night Recon' which has 6 Terrain Touch Objectives, but also (where you get more points) 7 Unit Objectives that are all based upon spot... The whole Scenario is predicated on moving around the map to specific 'touch' points and 'spotting' enemy units, firefights are to be avoided because loss of the recon units take a big points hit... The AI plans are designed to have Axis units moving in what you would call 'Guard' motion, back and forth, up and down a street, and all the armor is set to hide mode throughout the scenario, but are located in difficult map locations to get to (you have to dodge the troops on guard duty). I forget who the play testers where, this is from 2011 in CMBN, but IIRC they enjoyed the concept and thought it worked out well...

Just for added thought I am making a new CMFB campaign and there will be a scenario along the 'Spotted Objective' lines. I created a few standalones like this but they have long gone by the wayside in the great flood of 2019...

My opinion of Carlson is unprintable, but he would have helped Putin do a vastly better job of this if he had been asked/allowed. The boring and idiotic rant Putin just subjected everyone on too was his own world view, in agonizing detail.
Putin's problem is dictators syndrome, it has been so long since anyone was willing to give him honest advice, much less criticism, that he probably thinks he was fascinating for the whole multi hour spiel. This is of course also how he wound up launching a completely unnecessary war with grossly inadequate forces, lousy logistics, and one of the worst plans in human history.
    Edit: ...in the mud season.

“Shrinking the map”.  It is one of the largest issues we have at this scale of wargaming.  One cannot employ the same map scales for WW2 in a modern title.  We will continue to work the artillery issue but the hallmark of CM games is tactical realism, maps will have to adapt.  In CMCW we pretty much pushed out to the outer limit of what the game engine can handle with respect to map sizes.  It wasn’t artillery that was the forcing function, it was ATGMs.  A system that can reach out 3kms with very high Pk forces a much larger map.  That, and Soviet formations needed room to manoeuvre.  As we move into more modern era, say CMBS, the maps will need to get even larger.  This reflects what we are seeing on the battlefield - dispersion and increased range and lethality per combat element.  I suspect that after seeing the Ukraine war unfold that CM artillery will be readdressed.  There is too much evidence of its effectiveness to ignore.  CMx3 will need to take into account much larger map sizes as a result.

Locusts, and Chaffees and Pershings, oh my!
@FlammenwerferX and I are going to dive right into this and get a new PBEM going.
In the meantime, into Aachen we go!

And, of course, from Downfall!  General Pershing I presume?  So excited about this one.

BS is just not worth playing it is a hypothetical game and biased US No 1 Russia No 2 Ukraine No3 and no expansion pack is planned to rectify this. Kudos for the WW2 games it is where BF shines and we really enjoy playing it. FI is the next game I will buy.

For an ambush you need prior intel and the objective could be anything. Examine the bodies for more intel or just destroy the enemy unit or see it as a spoiling attack.

A Debt Repaid main tactic was to use the German Halftracks as an IFV. Occupied all objectives and with 57 minutes left called a ceasefire. Major Victory.
