  1. This is class the aristocracy were decapitated, and the commoners were drawn and quartered. Don't let anybody tell us we don't understand the system.
  2. Did you try an armor cover arc? It is my pet theory right now that fire arcs are firing orders in a specified area.
  3. My admiration of the map makers, is it going to be used for Battle for Normandy?
  4. For what it is worth my theory is that only assigned crew can man the .50 Cal. Like the passengers on an M4 Sherman can't operate its .50 Cal on the turret. Like @Sgt.Squareheadsaid it is a recon vehicle and speed is the best way to avoid getting shot at.
  5. I use a Traffic Ligt analogy for Fire Orders'. As I delete a Cover Arc you hear clearly "cease fire!" Traffic Light Green Move N no Cover arc. Amber Cover Arc Troops have their firearms ready. Red: Direct Fire order on the point of assault. Here is the Aachen Campaign "Knock them All Down." Troops Used Green +1. Not perfect they suffered one casualty took their objective. Morale was reduced to cautious for some reason.
  6. Internet and veterans go hand in hand. This is a computer game, and this is fun, I know my firearms. But not the ones in SF 2.
  7. My reasoning is as follows different people different experiences. As an analogy I use the traffic light. Green: troops travel with their side arms at ease or slinged. Amber they go on hunt consider a cover arc. A cover arc is a fire order. Go to camera position one and listen when you delete a cover arc. Red: Direct fire order and assault. The game is a firing range with popup targets the way I see it.
  8. This is a game, but it is how it works in RL. You have a fire team. Leader, Pointman, Marksman, Grenadier. Squads can split up in 2 or more teams. You must have a good reason to do this. Like scouting and overwatch. Platoon functions the same way as a fireteam. One squad (Alpha) Security and Recon. Squads Bravo and Charley need the intel to attack or assault. Intel points out the enemy is too strong for the platoon. The platoon becomes a security platoon it engages to obtain Intel. I am pleased with this game but the PDF files how it works are not clear enough. Threat your computer as a sniper's rifle and use DOPE Data of Personal Experiences. Play WeGo for this reason. Replay listen what is said. Read the behaviors of your troops. You will ideally pick the +2 troops for assault. Some games you don't have them if you still assault you will suffer in morale.
  9. I use the traffic light analogy. It is a state of mind. Green you walk firearm is slinged, Amber you hunt with a cover arc (The Cover arc is a fire order and the firearm is at the ready) Red you fire and assault. Assault means to eliminate the opposition the movement itself can be used as you see fit. Be generous with your cover arcs we all have been engaged by units outside them. I see cover arcs as orders to fire in an allotted zone. When you have a contact like while you're on hunt your unit is likely to fire first. Different people different ways to play the game.
  10. Yep, that is it if you're not careful in a long game they can disappear altogether.
  11. Sometimes it is hard to plot waypoints through a forest. It has its uses, we could introduce 'Agent Orange' in the Vietnam game. But I don't think the stuff was that stong. Just the stumps showing is about right.
  12. A 2 men scout team, yes they spread out. About 50 meters apart I will post it when it happens again.
  13. I did it for illustration purposes for the screenshot. Otherwise, some details are hidden. (The screenshot displayed the Red Cross) If you fire you give your position away. The opposition becomes situational aware. The troops I use for assault are hidden and become situational aware as much as possible through the C2. The demonstrated Assault was 2 turns and it was over. The fortifications dents annoy me immensely, it took the fun away out of Edge of Darkness. If 'Red' had some proper standing or listening patrols it would be a far more enjoyable game. I would like to know how to make one. But Alt+T will reveal them right away. It is something they could make and using Alt +T get rid of camouflaged units as well as trees. It is something on my wish list like TRP's you can start a scenario with "Listening Patrols on selected spots". Then the opposition needs to put in place a proper patrol program. Snipers uses a camouflaged OP to assassinate some bigwig etc.
  14. This time you focus too much on Assault, the assault squad relies on the recon of the security squad of his platoon. The idea is the assault squad gets the contact icons through the C2 and the enemy doesn't get the contact icons of your assault squad. The reserve squad of the platoon can be used for a BOF or an assault or do another recon as a follow up. If you attack an enemy who is situational aware of you, you get done. It takes practice.
  15. I observed that by plotting an LOF in concert with the line of Assault the AI will do a bounding overwatch (fire and movement) automatically. If you attack a house the line of assault stops at the wall of the house. You need to experiment always welcome to ask more questions. You can also send a direct message. But I never suggested to do away with a BOF usually a heavy tank can do that role. Play with the combination always get the contact icons first.
  16. I wrote about the functions of a platoon. In a Company you have 3 Platoons, and they operate the same way. The emphasis of Platoon A is security and recon the others are more suitable for attack or assault. The responsibilities overlap each other. The reason armies have drills on the parade ground it is 'Form'. The 2 scouts are the tip of the recon. Their squad, platoon or company is involved. The 2 squaddies were the cause the observer gave his position away. Lucky there were some guys on overwatch.
  17. A platoon has 3 squads. Squad A security Recon & BOF Squad B Attack or Assault Squad C Reserve. To attack or do an assault is a platoon operation.
  18. Cover arcs. Place a cover arc, now lock on the unit by pressing the Tab-key and set the camera on position 1. Now delete the cover arc and listen. You will hear "Cease Fire!" Without the cover arc they hold their firearms at the ready with the cover arc they hold it at eyelevel. I may very well try to put dots on the i's and crosses through the t's here.
  19. This illustration was just that an illustration. I determine the start point for the assault there I plot a LOF to the Contact Icon. The Line Stops at the place I want my troopers to use their hand grenades. There is where I put the cover arc (I wonder, or it is necessary). The reasoning behind is that a well-trained unit has a drill, and each member of the team knows his role. The cover-arc is the area of their objective, I want them to shoot and kill the enemy. If you have tanks halftracks etc. Use them! A tank ideally should be advancing with the troops. The infantry hopefully takes out the AT guys and the tanks the MG's. The drill RISS Recon, Isolate, Secure, Seize after you seize a follow-up. Do another RISS to keep contact otherwise withdraw. In this scenario they approach a bridge, for bridges they have another drill. Follow up depends what your next objective is.
  20. How to make contact? I use the shoulders of the road for a 2 men team. The AI doesn't do it properly you can't predict how they will advance. There should be a movement to contact order.
  21. I played the game some time ago, I disabled the trees for illustration purposes. Did an assault in a hurry. If you disable trees the foundations of fortifications become visible. I tried to construct a proper OP for a listening or standing patrol. (Shellhole covered with foliage). Doesn't work, I wish it could be done during set up. It is just worthwhile to experiment with the assault movement order. The moment the enemy becomes a full contact the troops spotting the enemy will stop to fire the others will keep advancing. Without a fire order it looks like a suicide mission.
  22. For what it is worth. I had an 'Arty' Spotter to man the MG42 on a halftrack. No problem even though the halftrack belonged to a different company. Back to the drawing board.
  23. It could be the backup on your system. Mine backup the file's to 'Onedrive' while I play sometimes a hickup but nothing serious. Try to play with the WiFi turned off. Just a suggestion.
  24. If you plot a direct fire during the assault move the formation automatically does a bounding overwatch. Start from the bottom.
