I think you hit the nail on the head there.  If you look at automatic fire in CM, it pretty much follows a laser.  Recoil seems like it would be fairly simple to model and might deal with some of the issues here?
The Sturmgewehr already fires semi auto at long ranges, right?
This is all speculation anyway, since we know CM has a "save roll" that occurs on infantry when they're hit.  Maybe "Rock and Roll" mode has a penalty to that? Who knows?

Yep and I've posted it here before, I'll see if I can find it again.....To summarize, (IIRC) the formation of the jet requires a very precisely timed detonation of a very precisely shaped charge, a hole in the liner messes with the formation of the jet reducing its penetration massively.
After some trawling I found it again.....You'll find the relevant diagrams and sourcing in this thread (dealing with ERA):  http://sturgeonshouse.ipbhost.com/topic/1528-no-nozh-doesnt-work-as-advertised/

My mistake though, the fragment modelled was 5mm in diameter not 1mm as I erroneously stated.

If the SBCT was just a fleet of wheeled armored vehicles, then you'd have a point.  As the case was it was an entire Brigade built around a variety of information age innovations that have since trickled over the fence into ABCT/IBCT (it's worth keeping in mind the SBCT as a paper concept predates the entire BCT construct, and in many ways served as it's model).

Also the LAV platform for a variety of reasons served as a good launching point, but ultimately the platform just isn't the same as a Stryker.

    Re: Topic

A bit late to the party but it's comparing apples to electron flux capacitors.  You can't eat the electron flux capacitor, you can't go back in time and almost seduce your own mother with the apple.  IFVs have a distinct role as an element of the combined arms fight.  Wheeled APCs like the Stryker have their own distinct mission.  There's some overlap between the two, but again this gets to the reality that the Stryker does not look like a Bradley because it doesn't have the same mission set/design considerations so of course it's going to be "different"

    Re: Dragoon

It's not a bad idea.  In a lot of places the 105 MM is too much gun, and the low ammo capacity is a hindrance on extended missions.  The 105 MM does have a bit more anti-armor capacity...but the anti-armor for an SBCT unit comes more from ATGMs than the MGS vehicles anyway.  30 MM is more handy for most situations, and the fact it doesn't require a highly specialized vehicle is pretty cool too.

Breathing old life into a new scenario?  Something like that.

    The convoy moves out!

Panzergrenadiere dismount to cover the ford crossing.

MG-42s seem almost more effective than the PKMs!

Air support fires on a suspected Russian position.
I translated the BTR platoon into a PzGr platoon in SdKfz (with the 37mm guy to make up for the lack of firepower and protection of the halftracks).  The BMP platoon is also PzGr with two Luchs in support to be the BMPs
Maybe it's just that I'm bad at the WWII titles but I still find it much harder, even though the Russians don't have good handheld AT weapons and need to rely on AT rifles, flamethrowers and a pair of light AT guns.
@George MC what have you done to me?  I feel obsessed at this point haha
Edit: Swapping the FW-190 for mortars or something... Air support looked cool at first, but then it swung around, bombed a building I was occupying, killed two halftracks and strafed my command team.

@IanL I'm afraid of my opponent now.  Didn't think ATGMs were so amazingly useful at such close ranges!  I like your action shots.
In other news, excuse the inconsistent voice - I'm suffering from a cold today.
Hopefully I'm getting better at this whole video thing, though

This was an awesome moment. In a recent loss to @slysniper things were not going smoothly for me. My T64s were dying fast vs his T90s and my units were withdrawing as fast as they could. At this point I figured I was done for and would not even last out the full clock. His forces had just cleared the tree line and were now exposed to my Skif teams (I had several, four I think) that were waiting for just that moment. The first one fired and missed and died shortly after. My heart sank. But then the next two turns other ATGM teams took out four T90s. In that moment the attack momentum faltered and I ran down the clock still holding on to one of the objectives. I still lost - big but it was not a total route and I lasted the time on the clock. This is one of those kills. The most interesting because...
    The shot

    The target is returning fire

Lucky, this team gets to live to fire again

    Looks a little low

It is low but still finds home

How low was it? Really low...

It is not clear to me if you truly need to capture the screen at runtime to do your analysis or if you could just use fraps or any other similar software to capture video and do your analysis offline.

    One word: Ogre
Ogre and its sequel, G.E.V., are tactical ground combat games set in the late 21st century. In 2085 A.D., armored warfare is faster and deadlier than ever. Hovercraft, tanks and infantry slug it out with tactical nukes. But the most feared weapon of all needs no human guidance. It's the giant cybernetic tank called the Ogre
    http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/
You can learn all about non-manned tanks, and how it is inevitable that they will turn on their human overlords.
    Unmanned tanks? No thanks.

Hi everyone! This is not an official AAR cause I was enjoying the game too much to take screenshots during the scenario. I only managed to save after the battle ended so all the screenshots are front the end of the scenario , but I would like to share my recent experience with black sea.
After trying out the Demo and playing the training mission twice (lost the first time) I noticed at the end of the game the AI retreated to the woods when i was closing in on the town. I thought that was kinda cool and realistic. After all, the logical path was to retreat to the woods. Later, after reading more about the game's AI, I was somewhat surprise that it was based on trigger and that the AI had 3 levels. strategic, operational and tactical. I believe the strategic level is the one that is trigger based.
So I bought myself my first CM copy. I played through the training campaign while following the guidelines on the manual which i had printed out. In the last mission I realise that it was the same scenario from the demo so I thought I would do fine but this time I followed the manual by splitting my team and all. First, I noticed when I sent my riflemen scout near the observation post alone they were engaged by snipers from the forest, which I kinda knew was there. However, this did not happened the first time I played in the demo, and I don't quite remember what I did. I made some mistakes on the way and ended up losing my observer, HQ and and 1 squad.
So I restarted the scenario again but this time I did it my way instead of following the manual. I sent one of my Bradley to to the side of the sunken road to engage the snipers which I know would shoot my guys near the woods at the observation post, but nothing happened I sent the same rifle squad to scout the woods and I got no engagement from the other side, no snipers, nothing. I sent he rest of my assault troops to assault route 1 without incident only engaging 2 squads on the way to assault route 2.

By the end of this scenario, I caught the Russians retreating to the woods again just like in the demo, however this time I had 2 Bradleys near the entrance of the woods, getting ready for a massacre. Guess what, only 2 squads came out and after getting shot, the rest of them decided to stay in the buildings surrounding the chapel. They refused to come out until they surrendered, i managed to only take out 1 squad out of 4-5 that attempted to retreat back to the woods, mainly because I believe they turn back after the first two squads were engaged by my Bradleys

After this, all I can say is that I am very impressed with the AI reaction to what do in the battlefield. It could just be random luck that i trigger or did not trigger certain triggers but this is the most realistic AI opponent I have seen.  In most games if the AI retreats if that even happens then it will happen no matter what, even if they are running into a meat grinder, but not in CM.

All that remains of the Russian forces.

Made a mistake and lost a full squad, I was hoping to get full score.

Some Russians who died to my Bradley flanking them from the back of the town. Bradleys are beasts!

I think you are too personally invested in the suggestion you are making.  You set a situation as one necessary for AFV design but the view of most here is that is not how you design a vehicle. You design it to assume a particular function. Taking it out of that function and creating an unusual situation is not then the basis for designing the vehicle. The assumption is flawed. That is all folks are saying.  There isn’t the same interest to redesign an AFV which does not start from what is its primary function.
Dont get too wrapped up in it.

Too late, he's already "made his point."  He stirs up just enough sh*t to revive a dead topic, then prances off. You might as well leave the popcorn on the counter with logic and reason sitting next to it.

Learned some more effects in Lightworks.  And found a better location to record - less echos and more consistent.  Still probably need a better microphone.  My fiancee heard me reviewing the video and told me "that doesn't sound anything like you!"

+1  Very well done.  Especially considering that I think this was one of your first video AARs (Maybe THE first?).  I really liked the view as if we were driving down the road at one point.  Another time we seemed to be standing alongside the road as the convoy drove past. Almost like a war correspondent might report with the vehicles moving in the background.  I think one of your truck drivers might be drunk judging by the way he couldn't stay on the road.  Might want to check on that guy.  I hope you have the time and patience to make more.  And of course you'll get even better with time and practice.
    HAPPY New Year!!
