  1. I too would like to see a bit of gore in the game. Nothing over the top, but I do think it really helps add to immersion, and shows you the true cost of your mistakes (or successes) Although something like this is likely not on the to do list right now. I agree that at the least I hope that some damage models for vehicles are eventually made.
  2. Hello all, just a quick question here. To my knowledge, the Bradley can only carry six fully loaded soldiers, but in both CMSF and CMBS they are capable of carrying a full squad of nine soldiers. Is this correct? If not, why are they able to do this when in reality they are not? Thanks!
  3. I know in the case of the American MLRS the minimum safe distance is 1km, and the preferred standoff distance is 3km due to the power and destruction of the rounds fired. There are only a few battlefields in CMBS large enough to allow for an MLRS strike that would not directly endanger friendly forces. This is why it is considered an operational asset that is used for things such as counter battery fire, hitting enemy assembly areas, supply dumps, and other such things. However, I would still like to see it represented in the game, knowing full well that it would be a very rarely used asset. I would still like a complete toolbox, plus at the very least it would be fun to experiment with the thing.
  4. I would love to see an AAR with someone using this system, both in order to learn how to properly use the system and to see the results of the system in a battle. I love seeing stuff like this, that adds more depth, immersion, and realism to the CM games, and that the games themselves allow for this to happen.
  5. This was very impressive to see and certainly made my jaw drop. If someone told me that a Stuart tank could kill a Tiger I would laugh at them. Well, I stand corrected! Great video, thanks for sharing with us!
  6. I also agree that a modern Korean War would be rather boring because of the reasons you stated. I would personally love to have a CM game set in the Korean War in 1950. Theres a lot there that would add something new to CM while being well within the grasp of CMx2, and it would present some very interesting tactical situations that we really haven't seen yet, such as the Chinese who had no heavy equipment or vehicles (initially) @weapon2010: In a perfect world we would have CM games that covered every operation from every war since WWII (and possibly even WWI) but we do not live in a perfect world. I have a lot of interest in the Vietnam War and if there were ever a CM game set during that war I would get it and play it and likely enjoy it for what it was, however for many reasons stated by the game developers and reiterated by myself and others, it simply is not in the cards right now and likely will not happen for a very very long time. Not trying to trash on you or your idea, I'm just giving my opinion as to why it would likely not be a very fun/practical CM game.
  7. I would love to see a Combat Mission Korea at some point in the future, but I think that its a long way off if it ever does happen. They are currently working on refocusing on the games they already have out right now by making more missions/campaigns in the form of battle packs, as well as expanding the existing games with new expansions and modules. Also remember that there is still a lot of WWII that has yet to be covered that a lot of people are clamoring for, such as the rest of the Eastern Front (41-43, Barbarossa, Stalingrad, Kursk and everything in between) and North Africa. And then if we get really lucky we'll see a Combat Mission game based during the Cold War. Not trying to discourage you though. As I said I would love to see a CM:Korea, I have a lot of interest in that war and I think it would make a really good CM game. I disagree weapon2010. I do not think a CM game in Vietnam would be very fun. Too asymmetrical to start, not a lot of vehicle combat, dense jungle terrain that would be a pain to create and fight over (everyone would just alt-t) and any other type of combat such as urban or whatnot has been done in other games. I would much rather see a CM game based in the 1980s as a Cold War gone hot scenario than Vietnam. You would get a lot of the same equipment with the benefit of both sides being adequately equipped with tanks and armored vehicles and whatnot. Plus bear in mind that you would not get to do the classic Vietnam style air assault with Hueys, because CM doesn't visually simulate that.
  8. Both the TO&E and OOB for the Soviets would be very different than the way they are currently in the Russian military, and there would be some differences on the US side as well. For instance, there would be no Strikers and a lot more M113's ranging from infantry carriers to command vehicles to the FIST vehicle, etc. Even in the late 80's there were still a ton of M113's roaming around. The Bradley replaced the M113 in a lot of its roles, but most reserve units were still comprised mostly of M113's, and they were never really phased out until after the Cold War. I could go on with examples but the point is is that there are enough significant differences between what is in Black Sea and what would be in CM: Fulda Gap to warrant a new game. I do agree that the scope of BS and RT are tiny compared to what BB was, and I do hope that we get expansions that increase the scope of the games, but it looks like BFC is working on that, both with the mission packs and modules and such they talked about in their most recent newsletter/update.
  9. I think this would be awesome. And I think it would be very practical, at least for the thermal sights. You could see what your men could see, if you switched on a thermal view and zoomed down to eye level. Plus, it would look epic, like an AC-130 gun cam video.
  10. Now that would be interesting, and would make a lot more sense (militarily, maybe not politically) given the current state of the Russian and US military's. Also worth mentioning, not sure if anyone here is a Harold Coyle fan, but I think it could be cool to set up some of the scenarios from his book "The Ten Thousand." For those that don't know, the story begins in post Cold War 21st century with a developing rouge nuke crisis. Essentially Ukraine has some nukes that they want to sell (behind closed doors and all that) and NATO intelligence gets word of this and plans a military operation to seize the Ukrainian nukes before they can sell em. There are a few skirmishes between an American armored unit and Ukrainians, as well as between US Army Rangers and UKR guards at the site where the nukes are. The novel takes place in roughly modern times. They never give an exact year but they do say 21st century and the gear they are using is all currently in use, and there are no prototype units or anything like that in operation by any of the forces, so the current OOB and TO&E in BS would fit perfectly. As a little side note, it was reading this book that finally inspired my wallet into getting Black Sea. The part of the book with fighting between the UKR and US is pretty limited, but it did the trick for me.
  11. Thanks for the quick update guys. I'll be sure to give the link a check. I'm excited for this project because I think adding some kind of operational level aspect to Combat Mission would do a lot of good for the game. It would add a lot of depth to battles, and would greatly increase replayability. Anyways I hope that things continue, even if its a bit slow Greatly looking forward to the possibilities!
  12. I have downloaded the campaign and the mod pack but I haven't played any of it yet. However I did see Chris's recorded stream of the first mission and I have to say it looks fantastic. Just wanted to say that even though I haven't played it yet I really appreciate the time and effort that went into making this. Its community made content like this that injects long term longevity into the CM games. Thanks for the hard work!
  13. As Stagler said, you can basically do this in BS, although it wouldn't make much sense without a lot of imagination. During the Cold War the Soviets had a massive military. The red horde was a reality (albeit a bit of a derogatory generalization) Today, the Russian military is not even close to the size it was during the Cold War. Currently (correct me if I am wrong) the Indians have more T-90 tanks than the Russians have in active service. In order for a Fulda Gap 2017 scenario to be possible (obviously it would not take place at the actual Fulda Gap because Germany is unified and all that) you would have to create your own historical timeline allowing for a massive Russian military build up over the course of a decade or so. For me this is a bit of a stretch. However that shouldn't stop others from imagining it and trying it out in BS. I would love to see a CMx2 game set in North Africa. I think its one of the more overlooked parts of WWII despite how interesting it all was, both militarily and politically. I would want Fulda Gap first, but CM: North Africa would definitely be a day one purchase for me.
  14. for me this would be my most preferred time period for a Cold War CM game as well for the reasons you listed, plus for me I am a big fan of the game World in Conflict, which takes place in '89. I would love to recreate some of the missions from that game in a CM Cold War game. I like all of your other ideas as well. I really hope that we eventually get a game set in 1950 Korea (after CM: Fulda Gap of course ) and I think the modern/future Korea setting could be very cool as well, however that would be pretty low on my list. I would want to see a few more titles before CM: Second Korean War, but that's just me.
  15. I was just wondering if this project is still alive? Haven't heard anything about it in a while here on the CM forums. If it is still kicking, how is progress?
  16. Thats a good point. I do wish that the T-80 series were part of the base game for the Russians, simply because I think they would be a lot of fun to play around with, but I know why they were omitted from the game. Still though, this could provide some content for a future vehicles expansion for BS. I think there are a lot of possibilities with such an expansion. I can't wait to see whats next for BS, and hopefully the T-80 makes an appearance along the way.
  17. I too would really like to see the T-80 series of tanks in a CM game, but I think it would be better suited in another CM game. The reason is because the Ukrainians do not appear to have that many of them right now and the Russians are phasing them out completely. I would rather see the T-80 series in a game based during a time frame where the T-80 was in its prime, an example of this being the 1980's. There were a lot of T-80 variants during this time, the most fearsome being the T-80U. That said I would not be the least bit disappointed if a T-80 series tank showed up in an upcoming CMBS module/expansion.
  18. This This This! Number One for me as well. I really hope that at some point in the future we will get a Cold War Scenario CM game. Personally I would prefer it to take place during the 1980's, even more preferably after 1985. This way the Americans would get the M1A1, Humvee and Bradley, all in good quantity, while giving the Soviets a lot of great stuff too, such as modernized T-64's and T-72's as well as the T-80 line of tanks, not to forget their large amount of IFV's. For me this is my dream CM game, but I understand that it is going to be a while before this is possible, due to the massive amount of work planned as far as supporting Bulge when it comes out, as well as adding new content and modules to existing games that are already out. Still though, I hope that one day in the not to to distant future I, and many others will get their wish. Here's hoping! As far as the other ideas, I like them all with the exception of a Sino-Soviet clash, and only because I have little knowledge or interest in that area. However I think that both a CM game set in Korea (1950, not a fictional conflict) and one of the many Arab-Israeli conflicts would be a lot of fun, the latter bringing a lot of new flavor to the CMx2 series. Lastly, i agree with you that I would rather see an update to both CMA and CMSF instead of seeing a CM game based on either OEF or OIF.
  19. I would be very happy with a NATO nation such as Germany or Britain. This would bring new vehicles and other toys to the game with their own flavors, and I would think it would be relatively easy to do seeing as they already released both of these nations for Shock Force. I imagine a lot of the ground work has already been done and it would be a simple matter of modernizing the nations to a 2017 standard. Regardless I am excited for whatever comes, and will surely pick it up, whatever/whenever that may be.
  20. I've watched this series on YouTube as well and I found it entertaining. I think that it is a good overview of some of the more important parts of the Eastern Front and if nothing else helps you to get into the mood to play some Red Thunder. Take everything with a grain of salt, but overall there are no serious bias issues or anything like that. I would recommend it.
  21. I've found that playing the game real time for me is more enjoyable, but it is less efficient. When playing real time, I'll tend to disregard some of my forces which leads to a chunk of my units just sitting around doing nothing for a while. Playing turn based gives you more of a chance to plan out everything for all of your forces in a structured way, so I find it to be overall more efficient for me. However I still prefer playing real time. It just feels better to me.
  22. Ah ok thank you for the response and clarification. It must be something on my end. I might try asking around in the tech support section. Anyways, thanks for all of the hard work and great content! Looking forward to seeing what you come out with next.
  23. I have noticed that when I use the vehicle skin mods (specifically the Russians) that it seems to drastically slow down my loading times. On larger scenarios I get to 83% and then get stuck for a while, sometimes longer than 5 minutes before the game is finally able to load everything. Occasionally it will get stuck on 83% and it will take so long that I end up alt+tabbing and closing BS with the task manager (which says BS is not responding) and attempt to load the scenario again. This usually works, but I still get stuck on 83% for a while. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this? It could very well be an issue on my end, although I'm not sure what that could be. Any insight would be appreciated. Hopefully there is a simple explanation as to why this is happening. If there is not but someone knows what is going on, or is willing to do some trouble shooting, feel free to shoot me a PM so we do not derail the thread or clutter it. Anyways just wanted to say that I really love the mods and appreciate all of the hard work that goes into making them!
  24. This is a really good question. I am curious about this as well, mainly because (so I have been told) Direct X 12 will be released with Windows 10. I have heard that Direct X 12 is going to be pretty awesome and worth the upgrade because it will apparently drastically improve performance in many games (again so I have been told) I guess I would add a question to this which is, will Direct X 12 offer performance improvements to Combat Mission Black Sea and other Combat Mission titles?
  25. Thanks for the responses guys! I'll give it a go and see how it plays out.
