  1. Hi all, I was under the impression that you could name the commanders of units (such as the captain of a company) but I am not aware how to do this. Is it possible, and if so how do I do it? I recall that some campaigns/missions have set names, such as Cpt Winters (then an LT) and other BoB troopers in a brecourt manor mission for CM:BN. Thanks in advance for any help rendered, and I apologize if this has already been asked/covered somewhere else. If that is the case please point me in the right direction and close the thread. Thanks!
  2. I hope this thread is not too old to revive, but I thought I would throw in some World in Conflict music. I love this game and the soundtrack for it, and I think any one of these songs could be great for the main menu. WiC SA - Incursion: I really like this one because you can almost see the Russian tanks rolling across the line of departure towards their first objectives. WiC - Main Menu Already a main menu theme, its of a decent length and really gets you into the mood. Not over the top or anything, a bit foreboding of the chaos to come. WiC - Fall of Liberty Has a military theme to it and helps to set the tone as well, more so in the fact that it is implying a serious fight ahead that is of great importance. WiC SA - Marching North Sounds like after a lot of fighting, battered and exhausted units are marching towards... somewhere. I like all of these, and there are more in the soundtracks that I really enjoy too, but I wont make this a huge post with all of them listed. Hope you guys like em and may even feel a bit of nostalgia for a great game
  3. Sounds awesome! Be sure to keep us posted! In the mean time does anyone know if you could use the skins from the Euroscape mod, or other vehicle reskin packs on the repository to change the appearance of the vehicles in CM:BS?
  4. A good point. What weapon systems are you using? I would imagine that wooden rubble would still be pretty good protection from most small arms fire, but would likely not be very effective against a direct tank shell or artillery landing on top of the destroyed structure. Can you elaborate?
  5. Ahh ok. I did try to do some quick and dirty uniform replacements using the above listed mod but the textures did not match the models in a few places. It didn't look great zoomed in, especially the helmets. Will the models be changeable in the future at some point?
  6. I do not know exactly what it is like in game, but I do know that the rubble of buildings generally does provide more cover and concealment than the building itself. (Concealment when in the rubble) The battle of Grozny in the First Chechen War is a great case study of this. The Russians bombed and shelled the city to ruins and then moved their tanks and infantry in, but it actually gave the Chechen fighters better positions to ambush the Russians due to all of the rubble. Stalingrad is another example, if a bit older. The city was flattened, but this ended up aiding the defenders more. The Soviets learned a lot during that battle that went on to influence how they fought in urban conditions for the remainder of the war and after. they essentially wrote their urban warfare doctrine based on what happened in Stalingrad. It does seem like it should be the other way around, but there are a lot of battles that you can look into as case studies as to why rubble is actually better cover/concealment.
  7. I think the lasing time depends heavily on the vehicle. Are you talking about a specific tank/armored vehicle or are you talking about all of them? I know that the later end Russian tanks, such as the T-90AM tend to aim and fire pretty quickly. Lower end tanks such as the T-72 variant and the Ukrainian T-64's take a bit longer to aim, but not much. I cannot speak for the Abrams yet as I have not played around with it yet, but based on my knowledge of the Abrams I assume the lase and fire time is pretty quick. APCs are a bit different. I've found that they can take a bit longer to engage targets, and tend to be less accurate than tanks, specifically the BMP-3 and its 100mm cannon. Even so I have found that my APCs have been doing a good job at servicing identified targets. My biggest issue (not with the game, its my own flaw as a commander currently) is that I have trouble spotting the enemy first. Generally speaking the vehicle that spots it target first is the one that wins the engagement. This is a testament to the speed of the FCS systems on the armored vehicles I have been using and fighting against (Russian/Ukrainian) Could you elaborate on which vehicles in particular, or is it all vehicles?
  8. Just a quick update for me. I got a response to my ticket and all has been sorted out for me. I'll mention that the download from the website did work for me today. Perhaps it was some kind of glitch in the system that was taken care of over night? Not really sure what to think of it, but I now have my copy of CM:BS downloaded and installed, issue free and I'm really enjoying the game. So my advice would be to maybe wait a few hours or a day and try downloading again from the website, and submit a ticket to the helpdesk. Both should be a solution, as they have both been for me. Good luck!
  9. I was wondering if anyone would be able to make some late Soviet era camo for the Russian Soldiers. I know that there is a decent uniform mod for CM:A, but I have no idea if the uniforms in that pack are compatible with CM:BS. If it is, could someone let me know how to convert it into CM:BS, otherwise I would love to see a uniform pack that could do this. Heres the link to the CM:A uniform mod. I prefer the helmeted khaki soldiers with the flak vests: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=finishdown&id=834
  10. I'm currently having the same issue. I submitted a ticket with the mojo helpdesk and am waiting on a reply. I've never had issues downloading anything from Battlefront before, and I tried multiple browsers, a different computer and disabling my anti virus to no avail. It must be something with the upload site I would guess. Anyways I hope that my issue gets resolved soon and that Battlefront gets to the bottom of this so that others do not have issues in the future.
  11. Oh wow how did I miss that? Thanks for the reply
  12. I was just wondering if it is at all possible to choose a specific map while setting up a quick battle? I would like to be able to choose a map to play on and then set up a quick battle on it. Saves a lot of time in the editor placing units and objectives and whatnot.
  13. Bit of an update: So I just learned that playing the game WEGO as opposed to real time makes it extremely more playable in the larger scenarios. In fact I'm currently playing the largest mission I have as a sort of test, and its running flawlessly. The only real wait is during the turn time calculation, and that isn't all that bad either, clocking in at under a minute each turn. If this was common knowledge, I apologize. I'm relatively new to Combat Mission as a whole, and was unaware that playing the game WEGO is better performance wise (at least for me it is) Thanks for all of the input and feedback. I hope that if a new Combat Mission player is having similar issues then s/he will be able to find this and use it as a resource that could help them out. Thanks again!
  14. I think that this mission is a really good showcase mission. In fact, that is what PC magazine (if I recall correctly) used to showcase CMRT just before its release. It has a nice combination of a lot of the things RT has to offer, as well as showing off some of the more, shall we say excessive toys there are to play with, such as the Tiger II. I've actually played it a few times now, and its usually one of the scenarios I will load up when I want to test some new mods or something like that.
  15. Ok thats what I thought. It makes sense. When I said Woodland camo I meant BDU's not multicam, just to clarify.
  16. Does anyone know if it would be possible to use the Euroscape mod, or at least parts of it in CMBS? For instance the BTR-70's and early model T-72s. Also the US Army woodland camo. I think it could be cool, as it would add a bit more content to Black Sea. Not sure if it would be possible though. Anyone have any thoughts?
  17. Thanks for the responses guys. I do have the Marines modules so I'll give it a go. Thanks again!
  18. Hi all. I was wondering if there is a mod, or if it is possible for me to do a simple edit myself, to give the US Army infantrymen M16's. It's a purely cosmetic thing for me, but I recently discovered the Euroscape mod for CMSF (I know, I've apparently been living under a rock or something) and I was hoping to equip the Army with M16's for a more 1980's feel. Again it is purely cosmetic and if it is not possible then that is ok. Any help or info would be great. Thanks!
  19. I was just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good reskin of the German units. The vanilla skins are fine, I was just wondering if there are some other skins that may even be higher quality to add some more flavor to the game.
  20. This video is awesome. The lighting, shots, everything. The only thing that I would change to it is that I think the background music is a bit distracting. That is just my personal opinion though. Still, it is a fantastic video!
  21. What Baneman said. I have not played Combat Mission Afghanistan but I have played a lot of CMSF, and in that game it also uses trenches similar to those that you have described. When I am setting up my forces and observing the terrain, I can always see the enemy trench lines and know to either immediately suppress them or to be wary of them when I advance. While I understand why you may prefer the old trench system, I think the new one they have introduced is better overall for reality sake. That doesn't mean that they cannot continue to refine it however. I'm sure they will as new patches are released and new modules come out for CMRT
  22. Thanks for all of the input so far. I would like to add some context as far as my performance goes. I notice that I run the game very well without having to reduce my settings that much at all. For me the problem is happening with the first mission in the "Thunder over Ponyri" campaign that I downloaded. I've heard great things about the campaign and from what I have played of the first mission it is a lot of fun and well put together. My issue occurs when the combat starts. I've noticed that I suffer a significant FPS drop when artillery is striking, and that this happens regardless of whether or not I am looking at the actual impacts or away from them. Could this possibly just be a scenario optimization issue? Perhaps the scenario is simply too large? If this may be the case, is there a limit to the size of the scenarios that the game engine can handle? For instance, if I had some kind of super computer and I built a very large battle, would the game still lag simply because it over taxes the game engine? Hypothetical I know but it would help to establish an upper limit to what is possible regardless of the individual computer power.
  23. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium in 64 bit. Thanks for the imput! I'll try out those settings on the Nvidia control panel and see what I get. What are your in game options set to? Also, from what I have heard and observed, CM games seem to use the CPU a lot more than they do the GR|PU. Is there any way that I can get the game to put more of a load on the GPU and take the burden off of the CPU? My CPU is a big bottleneck, and unfortunately many games that I like tend to be CPU intensive, so I run into this problem a lot. I'm looking to upgrade, but it's not really in the cards for me at the moment. I'm hoping there is some kind of workaround in the meantime. If not that's ok. Thanks again for your imput. Frames in the 20s is perfect. I'm not looking for a solid 60 FPS or anything like that
  24. Has there been any information released concerning the possible Kursk game/module? As in when it can be expected? I just got CMRT recently and I am loving it. Personally I am more interested in the earlier part of the Eastern Front (Barbarossa to Kursk essentially) so I am highly anticipating new modules that explore those battles. Any info could help. The Battle of the Bulge game sounds fantastic. Could introduce snow as a variable for the first time (as far as I know) to the CM engine. That would be fantastic. I'm sure if they do end up adding a snow mechanic that it will be added to other games, such as the RT modules to further enhance them. Its all sounding great. If there is any timeline for development for any of these games that anyone knows of, could you direct me to it?
  25. Hi all. I was wondering how to go about getting the best performance out of CMRT. Currently I can run CMSF on full settings without issue, but in some of the larger scenarios in CMRT my computer really chugs along, and in some cases the framerate drops down to 1-5 range. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get a bit more performance out of the game. I did a Google search before making this post and I came across a suggestion that says to go into the Nvidia control panel and set "vertical sync" to the setting "adaptive (half refresh rate)" Some were reporting a large FPS increase by doing this. I tried but it did not help me out much. Anyone have more tips? My system is running: GPU: Nvidia GeForce 660 TI CPU Intel i5-2390T RAM: 8 Gb Thanks for the help in advance, and if I posted this in the wrong forum section, please feel free to move it to the correct one.
