I bet there is a bigger chunk of randomness in real life than in any wargames.  Randomness is a must.  Almost every award for gallantry in combat would be considered game-breaking in a game at CM's level of detail.  Random not only adds flavor, but a significant amount of realism.

And this is why a lot of game companies now focus on releasing smaller and more frequent patches.  Exactly why.  I would prefer 10 patches over two years  than one big patch every two years.

As to complexity of the game, its no more complex than Graviteam or Il2.  And a completely valid point is legacy code being the issue.  Its seems to be the same issue over at eSims with Steel Beasts also.  But this game was developed around 2006/2007, not 1999.  That's not far from when Graviteam originally hit the streets.  They are just a small shop also.
To me, the main difference is Graviteam eventually got in bed with Steam and eliminated a number of logistical issues with their game they were wasting their time with.  As soon as Graiteam went to Steam, updates started coming out more frequently.  BFC has chosen to build all that themselves.  Think of all the time Steve has stated he spent fixing the store that could have been spent fixing all these OOB issues.  Is that worth the piece of BFC's soul that Steam asks for?  I don't know.

Now not in defense of BFC, but more like misery loves company...eSims has been working on a patch on Steel Beasts for years.  Not only that, but the last patch left out a fairly significant terrain upgrade.  There are a significant number of mistakes, issues, fixes, etc. that should be addressed and they continue to delay the patch/upgrade to the point even they admit the ridiculousness of it.
They are a little better at communicating the issues, but not much.

I would have thought after 12-13 years of building and patching these games that someone at BFC would have figured out a more methodical way of doing at best, or figured out the effort to do it at worst.

Sure seems like this is the story we hear with each update on this patch...
    - Its more work than we expected
    - OOBs are hard
    - We keep finding stuff in testing
I'm really not sure what to think.  I go away for a while, play other games, come back and see what's going on...not much  I want the freaking patch done so we can start hoping on new modules.  Alas, I suspect we might be years away from modules for some games.  If I had a vote, which I don't, I'd say scrap everything after the patch and start CM3.

What's with the serious obsession with fire on these forums?  multiple flamethrower threads, multiple threads on the effects of fire, complaints about fire not doing this or that.  Are we sharing the forum with a bunch of arsonists in the making?

Graviteam is not a huge team.  Its a few guys.  Their PR person is the main dev.  He can be a dick, but part of it is a language issue, with a little cultural issue thrown in.  Graviteam responds daily to comments in their forum on Steam.  And they do basically monthly updates to address any issues that come up.  And they are very interactive with their customers on issues with the game and suggestions for change.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled at lack of news and lack of patch.  I mean, I have spent plenty of time managing SW projects, so crap happens.  But we have been told over and over that its soon, right around the corner, etc. for quite some time.
