I'll look into it some more in case he was not accurate. However, I would have expected the interviewer to call him out on any inaccuracies. She was not giving him an easy softball interview. I don't think she was a fan.
I'm pretty sure a House Democrat pulled a fire alarm just before the CR vote.  I've seen video of this.
So, can we agree that at least this one characterization is correct?

+1  This is the only productive path forward I can think of.  It also needs to happen rather quick.  A few weeks maybe.
Just for the record..... @sburke I'd vote for you no matter which of the two major US parties you ran in. You are the embodiment of reason and bipartisanship.
After you won maybe you would consider tariffs against New Zeeland?  There seems to be an inordinately keen forum member there who may not like dogs........     .

One could only wish they would do that.  I think part of the problem is the primary process. Any republican who works with democrats faces potentially getting primaried from the far right and the primaries are heavily driven by the more extreme elements on either side but are particularly rough on republicans. There isn’t an equivalent democratic side insult to RINO. (Dino just doesn’t have the same insult tone 😂 )
the GOP carries the lions share of blame for the lack of bipartisanship, it has been explicit policy since Gingrich.  What further hampers it is the speaker determines what actually gets to the floor. If the speaker isn’t willing to support a bipartisan effort then it is just dead. McCarthy only conceded that when he knew he didn’t have the votes for something the GOP could do solo and was critical. He doesn’t view Ukraine as critical so any thought he’d do a deal with the dems there would only have occurred to get them to support his speakership. If he wasn’t willing to do it there it isn’t likely he was ever going to do it.
the question now is if there is enough cohones in the moderate GOP spectrum to put someone forward the dems think they can work with and garner bipartisan support that would eliminate the power of the MAGA faction. Unfortunately a path to electing a speaker without dem support looks to be a difficult road. Maybe that is the straw we need to force them to start working together.

I don't think you can blame anyone for the Republican's internal disarray except the far right Republicans.
I thought that maybe the moderates of both parties could use this as an opportunity to come together, compromise and govern.  I'm not sure what happens now..........   I'm guessing you probably prefer New Zealand's parliamentary system of government better...

I agree they should ALWAYS read the bills, resolutions etc.  That, by itself, is a good reason to delay.

That guy who pulled the alarm is an idiot and pretty much the single Dem to buck leadership on the CR. No quibble with that one.

But now he was using Democrat votes. To counter the Freedom caucus he would need to work with Democrats. If you care about doing the right thing isn't at least worth a try? If it didn't work out the Democrats could have voted with the far right in two or three weeks and ousted McCarthy.   Instead the Democrats and far right voted together and here we are. They didn't even try. I guess its more about politics and party power even with something as serious as the Ukraine war in the balance.

I don't know, if anyone is interested but 10-year treasury yields are skyrocketing in US. This is already a serious crisis, nothing good will come from indebted country having so high price to borrow more money. Markets(global) are also in a World of hurt, if this trend continues or even stabilises on this level(4.84% at the moment).
I would say that geopolitics are starting to show up on the bill. True battle for $ hegemony is about to start.

In the US our political choices are basically like a bundled cable deal (American cable channels would at least in the past come as big bundled set and you couldn’t just pick and choose individual channels).
So in my case, you might agree that supporting Ukraine is absolute highest priority but you might feel that the open-border policy of non-border states is problematic, and you might feel that the restorative-justice approach and just house all the homeless approach might not be the best things (especially in a major west coast city, where things are pretty dire honestly), and you might be pro-choice. And then you might be annoyed by inflation, where a number of people on one side of aisle basically said “inflation is good for everybody” and more or less laughed it off. And there’s obviously tons of other stuff.
On the middle half of the political spectrum, there are a lot of people who support Ukraine and are socially liberal but are extremely upset at the state of their cities and the economy, and who will definitely flirt with voting in the most conservative possible candidate as a show of their dissatisfaction.

MOS:96B2P got a reaction from PEB14 in The Evolution & Composition of CM US Armored/Mech. Infantry
The following screenshots show the evolution and composition of Combat Missions US Armor/Mech. Infantry.  It follows 1st Squad from July 1943 to July 2017.  I tried to get a screenshot whenever there was a change in the TOE.  (I may have missed some.)  In the screenshots I split 1st Squad down into its fire teams.  I always used the same split.  Assault team spilt off first (A-Team).  When a second split was allowed it was Anti-Tank (C-Team).  Leaving the base team (B-Team).  Some months the Platoon HQ was part of 1st Squad.  The squad’s vehicle is also shown in the screenshots.  The screenshots not only illustrate the evolution of a US squad of armored/mech. infantry but also helps to show just how detailed and cool this game is.

    CMFI July 1943 Armored Infantry
Nine men (Can only be split into two teams)
    Weapons list: Nine M1 Garands
    Special equipment: Binoculars

    CMFI December 1943 Armored Infantry
Ten men (Up to three teams)
Weapons list: Nine M1 Garands, One Springfield
    Special equipment: Binoculars, AT grenade

The whole nordstream discussion is very strange.
I read (maybe in this very thread) that you need specialized training and specialized equipment to pull something like that off. A group of random divers operating from a tiny boat won't do, because it is too deep, etc.
Does Ukraine have that capability? Unlikely. Does Ukraine have a reason to do it? Not unless you do a lot of mentsl gymnastics. Does Ukraine have a history of messing with other countries' underwater infrastructure? Nope. Were any Ukrainian assets seen around? One suspected boat according to "anonymous sources" and the link to Ukraine seems to be some "Ukrainian" but actually Russian lady who visited Crimea maybe?
Does US have the capability? Probably, I'm sure SEALS can do some crazy stuff. Does US have a reason to do it? I'd say not much but it can be discussed (it seems the relationship impact would be very much not worth it even if US really didn't like the project). Does US have a history of messing with other countries' underwater infrastructure? Not that I know. Were US assests seen in the area? Not that I know of.
Does Russia have the capability? Yes. Does Russia have a reason to do it? Very much yes. Does Russia have history of messing with other coutries' underwater infrastructure? Yes. Were Russian assets seen in the area? Yes, specialized ship for underwater works was seen nearby before and after.
I mean, it is definitely possible Ukraine is behind it, or the US. But if you say "it's not the guys with the means, motive, history of doing something like it and who was seen around, it is actually the guys who had no reason, unlikely means, no history of doing it!" then I would expect a lot very very clear evidence.
But we really don't have that, from what I've seen. Everything is pretty spotty.

Calling 15k troop strength an 'entire army' which had been 'missed', sounds a bit dramatized imo. Although obviously 15k troops reinforcing somewhere where one didn't expect them can be 'problem'.

Ugh, a very quick wiki search comes up pretty quick that the actions of some sub-units of this division agains Polish civilians, on more than one occasion, were criminal.  Of course Canada held a “totally-not-cover-our-a$$es” commission back in 1986 and found the Division as innocent as lambs.  This was seriously political as we were coming under a lot of pressure for harbouring war criminals back then and surprisingly we held a commission and found we were not.

For our European readers/posters let’s just be really clear - Nazi as a brand = Evil in North American thinking.  No Grey Areas, no “hey wait a minutes” or “what about context”.  Anyone in North America who thinks Nazi = Ok, is immediately labeled a Nazi/white supremacist.
Any further discussion of this will no doubt drag this thread down a rabbit hole we do not want to go down, so I recommend we tie off “Nazi, let’s think about it” early.  The fact that Canadian parliament invited in a veteran of this Division, in the middle of a visit from the Ukrainian president, is a screw up of epic proportions.  Even if all this guy did was guard the mess and is totally innocent, his attachment to this formation should have raised flags and put the brakes on this whole thing.  It’s link to this war is that Russia is making IO hay on this entire issue, which is doing exactly zero favours for Ukraine in the longer term.

When I was active duty back in 2021 my brigade did a rotation at NTC. The SIGINT team I was in charge of was attached to a Stryker infantry company defending the mouth of a pass. We were attacked by an OPFOR armor battalion and we just straight up murdered them. They took like 70% casualties and the rest slinked away under a heavy smoke screen. I often wonder how that AAR went.

ISW today does a lot of hedging it's bets on how things are going.  Quite a bit of evidence given of a deteriorating defensive situation around the salient but no definitive statement yet.
    Worth a read.

Has the potential of becoming an iconic photograph of this war. Showcasing the bravery of individual members of the AFU, back when much of the world already wrote them off as having no chance of defending their country.

As much as it pains me to give my HUMINT brethren any credit it’s also pretty likely that there are more than a few residents of Sevastopol that know/hear things and hate the Russian occupier.
