  1. The Taliban may not have the proper skins, but that doesn't detract from the battle. Be great if CM Afghanistan was updated to the latest versions...
  2. Pulled out an old Shock Force battle I downloaded years ago and had lots of fun playing. Its been years but I don't recall it looking like this. The new engine appears to render hills and mountains differently? Its a Taliban Assault on an outpost set in Afghanistan. Still loads of fun to play
  3. Nice...maybe sometime in the future we'll get some Kung Pao Beef (China) and Kim Chee (Korea) on the menu from someone. I saw on the Black Sea forum a thread about a Korea mod being worked on, but no recent updates. I recall a West Africa mod that was made for the original Shock Force and another one based on a popular post apocalypse RPG game. I never down loaded either. I still have some mods from the original Shock Force as well as 3:10 to Yuma and the Forging Steel Campaign. I sent the Test Firing ranges from Shock Force to Capt Reyes to try out and the 3:10 to Yuma, Forging Steel Campaign and firing range seem to work fine in SF2. I've been looking at backups to see if I have any more stuff. May be on an old laptop. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some old bitcoins on it too!
  4. In 1 of my h2h games and in the first mission of the Task Force Thunder I’ve seen tanks get double kills with 1 shot in 1 case it was a BMP that was hit first, the sabot went through it and then hit and killed a T90. In the second case 2 T55s were killed by 1 shot. Interesting to see that when manually targeting you get that result in test cases. I would think that in general sabot rounds are generally just loaded unless specificity specified as there are generally more of them onboard and you assume you may encounter an enemy tank in which case sabot rounds are best and if not it works against lighter stuff like APCs? Regardless my understanding from playing Steel Beasts is once main gun is loaded with a specific type of round it always gets shot regardless of target so if a sabot round is in the breech and you see a target that is not the ideal target for that round you fire the main gun at the target anyway with what’s loaded. If that is the case then it would be interesting as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sabot being shot at infantry in the game from the main gun on MBTs. If the infantry is in a building I would think a sabot round hitting the building could be effective depending on the material and construction of the building. If it’s a thick concrete building with rebar you may indeed want to use 1 or 2 sabots on it. I may be misinformed and it may be procedure to unload a round that is not appropriate for a particular target and then reload with appropriate ammunition in practice.
  5. That was 3 years ago. I can’t remember but the javelins were crucial iirc
  6. Judging from some to the responses to clearing mines thread, mine plows on M1's and other engineering vehicles would be welcome. A We've seen the widespread use of AT ditches in the Middle East and a specialized engineering vehicle to facilitate armored movement over an AT ditch could lead to some interesting scenarios. Same goes for the large berms. In the Task Force Thunder Campaign. I managed to get all my vehicles through the minefield by careful movement in a gap between the mines and berm, but I also tried to see if my breaching team could actually breach the berm, but looks like they can't. Specialized engineering vehicles that could breach the berm would also facilitate creation of interesting scenarios. I'm pretty sure some Western Armies also have specialized vehicles that can lay AT mines on the fly. Might be something to consider. BF released a vehicle pack for Normandy. I'd gladly paid for it. I'd pay for one in this case too. Maybe add some horses, donkeys, camels, civilians and embedded journalists while your at it.
  7. I use an advanced AI engine at work . What would have in the past required a team of engineers to monitor and maintain is now done by algorithms. I just fine tune the AI and monitor and analyze what’s outputted and decide if what’s outputted is valid and take appropriate action from there. Im no expert on the inner workings of a TOW vs Javelin but I’m quite sure inside a Javelin is microprocessors, lines of code, algorithms and some sort of AI rules that get processed on the fly. The current trade disputes you see is usually framed around tariffs and trade imbalances, but in one case is as much about the transfer of technology and knowledge. The fight for supremacy in AI and the technology that enables it is very real.
  8. Its starting to sound like the ATGM was the bow and arrow and the Javelin is the longbow. If true we're at the cusp of a new age in warfare. Don't get me started about AI, robotics, drones and microchips being taken to the next level.
  9. Its sounds like the Javelin is a real game changer indeed. If I were looking at it from the other side the only thing worse that a Marine with a rifle is a Marine with a Javelin and a rifle.
  10. Add some javelin like weapons to the mix and you have a real party. Those Techs could easily handle 2 more occupants and a few missile reloads.
  11. Syrian version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. At 75 pounds it can't be an easy load.
  12. "A light infantry company in strykers has enough javelin munitions to wipe out an armored battalion". That is simply incomprehensible to think of. The outcome of such a seemingly small advancement in weaponry carries huge geopolitical implications. I was watching some stuff on the latest Russian tank the T-14 and they must have taken the Javelin into account when designing the T-14.
  13. They are brutal against tanks, vehicles and bunkers. I also see them shooting at things like machine gun emplacements automatically. I can't recall that in Black Sea. Not to say its never happened, I can't recall seeing it. From the demo I've noticed TOWS on Bradleys fire more liberally and at non armored targets. I know from discussions and seeing it in action the TOWS in Black Sea are different with top attack warheads that are not as effective vs buildings. I'm now curious to how the HUMVEE mounted TOWS perform in SF2. There was discussions about their utility in Black Sea. I've seen the HUMVEE mounted TOWS fire in a test battle I setup in Black Sea When I mentioned to my h2h opponent he was shocked as he never saw a HUMVEE mounted TOW shoot in Black Sea. If the logic is different for various TOWS would it be possible at some point in the future to be able to specify what variant is loaded
  14. I managed to get all my vechicles through. Used methods described to find minefields then move vechicles through single file adjacent the berm past the marked minefield using the move command in short increments to make sure they stayed on course. Once past the minefield the danger was Strykers retreating into a minefield. Seems like they see something they don’t like and will retreat. Some retreated past marked minefields but didn’t hit any. The M1’s after spending a turn or 2 on the berm spotting and killing tanks and bunkers were the first through past the berm. I then used a Stryker MGS on the berm to provide overwatch. There are some potential surprises I won’t mention that need handling after that it’s just comes down to slaughtering the remaining Syrian forces. Out of all the modern CMs this one is my favorite
  15. I saw a 4 part documentary on Tanks that's on Netflix. They looked at the invasion of Checnya. The Russian plan was to roll the tanks into the city with mech infantry and intimidate a capitulation just like before in Prague. The mech infantry composed of conscripts were reluctant to dismount from their BMP's. The Chechen fighters -mostly older males in the early 30's and 40's who had already served in the army let the armored columns roll into the city. Hiding in the upper floors of the building where they could shoot their RPGs at the weaker less armored top areas of the tanks as well as hiding in streets and alleyways they destroyed or disabled the leading and trailing vehicles and proceeded to destroy the column and massacre the unfortunate troops. Needless to say the Russian did a complete rethink of their tactics and the next time around the infantry was dismounted and in close support of the tanks.
  16. Combat Mission is like being with someone you love, but know that from time to time you're going to have to put up with the crap that comes along with. Its all good. I really don't care if weed is legalized. Its not as if its not readily available anyway. Alcohol is legal and available and it often makes people-especially men aggressive and violent. Weed on the other hand usually makes people mellow. If trouble erupts involving alcohol it often ends up in violence. If weed is involved, just toss them a few Twinkies or ho-ho's and everything is fine. The violence around weed revolves around the grow houses where they are often targeted for rip-offs. My cousin was thinking about growing some on a commercial scale and mentioned buying a handgun for protection. I told him he better get something like an AR15/AK-47 as well as a shotgun to go along with his pistol and get some serious training, because if he thinks a pistol is going to match up with what would be coming after him with a serious crew he has another thing coming. Better also prepare to spend some serious money on bulletproof/resistant fixtures too. My friend and I had a deal with a farmer to built a nice firing range on some land. Farmer reneged. Far more money in growing weed. Since legalization its become big business and in many counties it taking over. There was a time in America when Coca Cola was really the real thing. You could also buy things to calm down your kids that had stuff like opium in it. Sometimes with some kids these days... Its not as if they aren't being drugged up by the pharmaceutical industry these days. It seems like every other kid is ADD and on something. These "safe" prescription pills carry potentially serious side effects and is well known to cause potentially bad side effects in a small percentage of people. Many young school shooters are known to have been on these prescribed drugs. The Pharm industry is a multi billion dollar business and they have clout in the right places. There are already moving into CBD and weed anyway. A onth or so ago the weed trade was a profitable one to be in on Wall Street if you didn't stay in the trade too long. From install problems to weed. Got to love it. In the updated Combat Mission Afghanistan BF needs to make sure poppy fields are included. They are a huge component of that conflict.
  17. Well it got resolved-there is an issue if you bought the CMSF_Marines Bundle and a new SN was issued and we are up and running. You must be feeding those help desk guys a lot of Red Bull...
  18. It wouldn't be a Combat Mission game if it didn't have some issue installing. As mentioned by someone else I too have never had so many issues installing a game-this goes for just about every CM title at one point or another. I've come to expect it. I'm pretty sure the CMSF_Marines Bundle SN I have and tried to use is what I used to install Shock Force in the first place a long long time ago. Well at least its not being flagged as malware by my AV-BTW when I plugged in my back up drive to look for the old Shock Force stuff in hopes of finding the magical key...Norton once again flagged an old Shock Force patch as malware and quarantined it... I'm sure that in time all will be right in the galaxy.
  19. What a big PITA. Who keeps SN's from a decade past? I actually did but it looks like the original CMSF_Marines_Bundle SN isn't working. I presume this is what I got when I first bought the game ages ago as I sill have the SNs and orders from the British/NATO modules. When I go into the new website and look at my purchases not all of my previous purchases were migrated from the old site to the new one. Looks like anything before a cutoff date didn't get migrated. I created a support ticket and will wait-I'm sure the 1 or 2 persons working it are swamped-if they haven't gone home for the night already. Well at least Strategic Command World at War is out tomorrow and I know that won't be a problem to install, activate and play....
  20. My understanding is every bullet is individually calculated. If true then it could probably be simulated pretty well. Don't know about fragments from shells or grenades.
  21. Any chance of getting a few more teaser scenarios for the demo while we are waiting for the release of the full version? I have no problem BF taking their time to get things right before a full release....but a few more teasers would be nice.
  22. What about from an on-map supply point?
  23. IIRC and it’s been a long time someone wrote about not using the HUNT command when entering a building. I think it was written to use a move command. This was written back when Shock Force was out and the AI and programming had changed. The peek around corners is implemented. Later on I’ll look through my backup drive and see if I can dig up the article I think I saw it when digging up old mods to try on demo. A few days ago I posted about what I though was odd behavior in the training mission when issuing the HUNT command to enter a building. At this point I think using a move command is the better way to go. Assault if available may also work.
  24. Don’t know if this has been asked or discussed. Will there be a printed manual that can be purchased? I already have the full game and all the modules. Id probably pay full price again to get a full printed manual and disks or USB drive.
