  1. PM me your mail address. I have at least some of Vein’s Uniforms.
  2. Ag, and CW Bloody Buron. There they really have an impact.
  3. Yeah, some in BN, MG and FI. If that is of interest, I’ll try to remember. MG Joe’s Bridge comes to my mind immediately, but that’s a different thread.
  4. What? You actually got the 88 to fire? Assuming you are talking about the Flak, those always are close to useless for me. Though they look impressive...
  5. The Ben Kane‘s trilogy was good, but the best Varus novel which I read to date is Geraint Jones‘ „Bloodforest“. Though it appears, this is meanwhile a trilogy, too. Nevertheless, the Romans lose. In terms of a more serious read, I would recommend the collection of articles accompanying the 2000 Years anniversary, which came out 2009 instead of a catalogue of the three main presentations. 3 volumes of state of the art scientific articles. Pretty difficult reading. I only managed to read what seemed really interesting to me. But if you are into contemporary Roman pottery, you’ll find something, too.
  6. @BFCElvis would be the right person to answer. Cheers and have fun with Combat Mission!
  7. It’ll be a 6 episode series and the trailer looks very good. Spoken in German and Latin, though. That‘ll be interesting. If I may correct: It‘s Teutoburg, not -berg. But it seems, the actual battle was a little north of it, near Osnabrück. There is a very nicely done museum in a place called Kalkriese, where they (most probably) discovered a part of the battle field some 20 years ago.
  8. Still my confusion remains: In the last turn I had three or four battered paras in the building near the NW end of the bridge. My oppo had two tanks on the N side road towards the forest and if I recall right nothing else in the N end victory zone. Further at least two tanks ON the bridge, plus some infantry and a light tank in the S side victory zone. I received points for holding the bridge, he did not.
  9. Hi Ithikial Please don‘t misunderstand me. My oppo and I did like the scenario quite much in the end. We were indeed somewhat frustrated in the beginning, but the action packed last phase changed our minds drastically. It certainly helped me to read the allied victory conditions to better understand what has happened in the game. Some questions remain however and I would be glad to discuss them with you by mail or PM, to avoid spoilers. I think, I still have the last game file. If you PM me your mail address, I’ll send you a Dropbox invite. And, yep, if I remember correctly, I destroyed 9 tanks. Something like 7 Shermans and 2 of the light tanks. As I said: The last 30 minutes were pretty full of action.
  10. Finally, I finished my PBEM game of Wittmans Demise. I played the Germans and scored a tactical victory, killed 43 tanks but lost 29. Wittmann survived (with Dollinger and von Westernhagen). Extremely exciting scenario. I was about to give up a couple of times. Each time when I thought „I‘ve done it! That‘s it now!“ some more Shermans popped up. I don‘t want to spoil the scenario for others, so just my two highlights: - Von Westerhagen single handedly saved the left flank and cleared the farm west of Gaumnesil (La Maisonette, I believe) with his Tiger from 3 Shermans in (almost) hand to hand combat. - After missing twice, Wittmann scored the last kill precisely in the last second of the regular playing time.
  11. Thanks, guys. I had a look at the allied victory conditions and finally understood. Yesterday, I was a little disappointed, indeed. It did not feel like a major victory at all. At best, I was hoping for a draw due to my smart, gamey last minute rush. In the end, I found the scenario pretty good. It started frustrating, became boring for quite a while and was extremely exiting in the last 30 minutes or so. After the StuG‘s failed, I pushed the Para‘s forward through the woods, just to somehow reach the bridge. Lot‘s of close quarters, chaotic night fighting. In the fight for the NW position, my guys destroyed 3 Shermans with Panzerfausts from, say 10 or 15m distance.
  12. Can somebody explain the victory conditions to me? I just finished a PBEM game and won a major victory with the Germans. Unfortunately, I don‘t really know why. Especially the terrain conditions are now quite unclear to me. In a very gamey „last turn rush”, I managed to bring some Fallschirmjäger into the building on the north-west side of the bridge and held it for 3 minutes. However, I received points for “occupying the bridge”, which I certainly not did. It was so full with Shermans, that there hardly would have been room for my guys. Otherwise, the end game report mentioned a “position NE and NW, of which I apparently held the NE. Those positions are not mentioned anywhere in the briefing, but other than my four Jägers in the building, I had nobody within 30m of the victory zone.
  13. I would have his Russians, plus the US for FI. Strange, no US for BN. I have to go searching for that... Slightly different topic: Aris‘ Germans for FI are excellent.
  14. I have about 1.2 GB of his vehicle mods all labeled „FB“ or „CMFB“. All-in-one packs for the Pz IV, Panther, JgdPz IV, StuG and StuH, plus individual mods for the Hetzer, Stuart, Jagdpanther, M8 HMC, M10, Sherman Jumbo and Tiger. In addition his terrain mod B with another 800 MB.
  15. Another thought: You can easily keep your old version (just copy the files somewhere) and update your „main install“ to the new version. I did the same with v3.12 a long time ago, in order to finish some games.
  16. Re the proposed implementation: Now, THAT would be a “game changer”. Re the “bull...ing“: Thanks for joining in!
  17. Hi John No doubt. I just doubt that it is relevant within the scope and scale of CM. And probably not longer relevant for the outcome of modern conflicts.
  18. Yeah, good points. What do you think? Considering the scale of CM, how should this indoor, hand-to-hand fighting look like? What do you think would the outcome and result of such fighting be?
  19. That‘s why I said „I don‘t think it is relevant in the scope of CM“. How often do you have indoor fighting with prolonged firefights (so that the guys would need to reload) or one side without ammo?
  20. That‘s what we did in the Bundeswehr, when we had an exercise near and in a natural reserve and were not allowed to use training ammo...
  21. The original question was about the lack of hand-to-hand fighting when one or both sides are out of ammo. My assumption was that this probably did not happen too often, as the troops without ammo would probably rather choose to run or at least not try to close in. The effectiveness of broken teams in CM is yet another question...
  22. Hm, I am not quite sure how often HtH fighting a la „Private Ryan“ really occurred, I.e. how relevant it would be in most CM scenarios. At least for Napoleonic battles it is said, that bayonet charges rarely came to contact. Usually one side broke and ran. Else, I believe to remember that the bayonet attack at Goose Green during the Falkland War 1982 was fairly „unbloody“.
  23. Is it only for me, or is the new forum UI not properly working on the iPhone since the last iOS update? E.g., I see only tiny rectangles, where the „tap fields“ are.
  24. File a ticket with Tech Support? Sounds like a good idea...
  25. Good to know. Though I did not like the original too much. It worked fine, but lacked in atmosphere due to the poor graphics.
