Your experience corroborates the observations of others and is noted in several active threads.  The 4.02 patch seems to have resolved this problem in other titles but it remains an issue in the bocage of CMBN.  Cautious optimism hopes for remedy sometime soon . . .

Yep. The ground work was laid about five years ago. You can see what was included in the old mod.

One of the best things I've done (entertainment wise) has been to expand my (history) gaming horizons over the last four years or so. It started with a friend talking me into trying Rome II and sloooowly mushroomed to my present state. For the longest time all I was playing was CM with an occasional foray into an FPS or a stray strategy title. Now, I've got a bunch of historical games/franchises I am in love with and seem to always have some new DLC to look forward to. I have a game or multiple games covering most major (and some obscure)  historical eras I am interested in, so I can change flavors or interests and then play in that setting any time it strikes me. Which makes moments like Elvis's heads up not so bothersome as it used to be. I hear/read a lot of people pining away about the good ol' days of gaming but as far as I am concerned, I am LIVING the good ol' days right now. I've never had as much gaming happiness as I have at this juncture. And it's only gonna get better!

That is very true. We have a lot of Ghurkas in my home town and very few of them are taller than me, and I'm only 5ft8. Although what they lack in inches they make up for in politeness.

I am looking forward to that one as well.
You should give Order Of Battle WWII a try. It's a lot of fun with just enough depth to make it interesting without bogging down in minutiae. It reminds me of Unity but a bit deeper with a different art aesthetic of course. It's free to try on Steam. You can play one scenario from each DLC if I remember correctly. I played the Pacific tutorials and had so much fun I got the DLCs a couple days later. The thing I really like about it is you can play as the Japs (starting in China), Marines, Army, Burma with the CW, then there's the Winter War as the Finns, and of course the typical stuff like Germans in North Africa, East Front, etc. Check'er out if you don't know about it, it's a great laid back beer & pretzels game.
And if you dig ancients, I HIGHLY recommend Field of Glory II. They've made it all the way to the Viking Age as of the last DLC.

yeah slowly dawning   My confusion started with the units as I automatically jumped to UI, that is pretty much Mord's specialty and he had done some for CMBN that are usable for CMFI..... I didn't make the leap to models.  I gave my old CMBN uniform mods a try and it doesn't work there now either.  I forget which version updated the models whether it was 2 or 3.  Bummer.  I exploded the BRZs for CMBN and CMFI and yeah, the two games still handle it differently as well...bummer.  I'll second your request for someone to mod unit patches.  I really love having them in game.

My fear with CM3 is BFC could decide to go for a 'money grab', instead of producing a tactical game they'll produce a 'My little Pony' roleplay game for Japanese schoolgirls to play on their iphones. Bye bye tactical combat sims.
Coincidentally, I'm currently watching a Korean TV series set in the world of a struggling game developer. One dramatic scene was a meeting where the developers decide to 'self publish' rather than tie their product to [fictional equivalent of Steam], which all considered a daring move on their part. It was like sitting in on a BFC board meeting... if BFC had board meetings... or a board room... or a downtown Seoul office tower workplace.

Yes, I play against several people using CMH. Since both programs copy files to and from Dropbox there is no conflict if opponents are using different programs.
I have a new version coming that will also support chatting with CMH.

Dropbox for CMHelper.  End of life version is 1.7.5.  Or go to FGM's Download CMHelper v1.7.5
There is another tool called Whose Turn Is It? as well which is in active support by @IanL.

it's an excellent game, but very demanding or the slightest mistake is paid off hard
the ancients of Italy, whom I met, spoke little of it. in France also their fights are forgotten
Badger73  you are part of that convinced me and I thank you

I acquired Fortress Italy and I share with you my first impression.

Maniac CMBN player, it's almost with disdain that I watched this battlefront game on the forgotten front.

It was on the enthusiastic advice of some and the next arrival of the module containing exotic troops like the French of the General Juin that I decided to make the purchase.

I used to fighting in hedgerow, trained to face the panzer with thick skin and fanatical troops of the Waffen SS, it's confident that I engaged my Gi and Tommy face Italian troops under equipped and their ridiculous R35 and Semovente

My research on strategy and tactics led me to read Zun Tsu, Carl Guderian, von Clausewitz and Bil Hardenberger whose entire work was read and re-read and all of whose tutti were played and replayed until keyboard wear.

So it's very confident that I started the game

I, who, a few days ago, contemplated with a knowing smile, the bust of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, imagining me as a digital alter ego, the return to reality was violent ... especially for my pixeltruppen.

It's painful that I learn the war in 3D

The pronounced relief, long and complicated LOS and LOF loses all my knowledge and my certainties

I, who thought I had learned a tactical logic, discovered with bitterness that I was just replicating reaction routines with relatively identical patterns,

In the hedges, the game consists of solving a succession of tactical problems one after the other, each problem generally corresponding to the field facing your troop so having a limited resolution key number.

With the opening of the LOS and LOF and the relief, the number of combination increases enormously.

The, the serious things really start

It's exciting and totally new, which does not spoil anything I find the game rather successful visually

Well, I suspect Combat Mission players are not anyone's average war-gamers . . . 😀  These games are an acquired taste for those interested in some kind of game-play tactical realism.  Battlefront supplies its high potency designer drugs to a niche audience.
As CMx2 is probably coming to the end of its software application life-cycle, I predict the first CMx3 title will be North Afrika sometime after 2023.  😶

Not quite.  I opine that the 332nd Fighter Group ranks as the best WW2 fighter unit anywhere because they trained as a squadron for three (count 'em, 3) whole years on four (4) different fighter aircraft before being committed to combat.  With that much individual flight experience and unit training they'd better be good, and they were.  Compare their performance against the under-trained late war Luftwaffe and Japanese pilots and its easy to see why training profoundly matters.  Racism kept the Tuskegee Airmen out of battle until Air Corps leadership concluded, "Needs must when the Devil drives."  The movie "Red Tails" is over the top Hollywood pap.  The reality is that early 20th Century America was institutionally racist despite which the Red Tails were very good indeed.

As @PIATpunk already mentioned, The Few Good Men merits your serious consideration for H2H / PBEM matches.  There are many other European members there.  FGM members are happy to nurture new players into veteran ones.  CMBN is a staple for game play both scenario's and Quick Battles.  You would find yourself most welcome there.  😎
