  1. I never even tried to go there in play testing. Just seemed too much like a place to die. Dave
  2. Those are good points. The attack area being larger would mean that (in real life) a coordinate and radius would be given to a pilot. He's going to go for the middle of the circle and if he can adjust outside of that he will, but there is a limit to 1) how easy for him to pick up a secondary target 2) his maneuvarbility on an attack run. Having a bigger circle would mean that he could hit one spot inside a bigger circle, not everything in the circle in one pass. Linear would be good. No reason that an A-10 (to pick a good example) can't set up on a run and fire that cannon down a line in a pass. They tend to normally use them in very short bursts (burrps) at a target. It goes through ammo REAL fast. Dave
  3. When an aircraft or flight like an A-10 does an attack run, they aren't going to just zip around our CM map attacking stuff. In real life the aircraft has an Initial Point (IP) which is where they start their run, under control of the FAC or FIST. Make the run. Aircraft exit to somewhere near to the rear and possibly loiter. Now if they get new direction in the middle of that, they have to leave the area, loiter, process the new info, and set up again with an IP and a new attack run. Those minutes are not unreasonable in an environment where you don't control the skies and there is a significant AA threat. I think it's unrealistic to just make a quick adjust. Keep in mind the size of a CM map and the fact that even an A-10 which can fly pretty low and slow, is moving at a speed about 10-15x faster than a tank speeding across open ground. Dave
  4. There's no Afrika but FI lets you play with some of the same equipment starting with the invasion of Sicily. With the two modules Gustav Line and Rome to Victory, it takes you through the end of the war and is a huge amount of content. RtV also includes several nationalities - Brazil, France, South Africa - to play with as well. BN probably has the most content of all, if you also count user created content. With the two expansions of Commonwealth Forces and Market Garden, you again have a lot of content. It was the most of any but FI has probably about caught up by now. Final Blitzkrieg is the newest of the three and as such doesn't have the extra content, but if the Battle of the Bulge is your thing, then maybe that's the one. The advice most usually give is to pick the one that you have the most interest in and that's what you'll have the most fun with. Dave
  5. One of the highlights of my military service was an exchange with the Canadian Parachute Regiment. We traded people (I was a LT in an artillery battery at the time). We spent 40 days with them, jumped enough to get our Cdn jump wings. The unit is very "British" in organization/training/attitude. In garrison, "Tea and Toast" at 10am. Out in the field, at 3pm on the drop zone their Colonel's driver brewed up tea on the hood of his jeep for the officers. A big mess truck drives up with tea, coffee and snacks for the enlisted troops. It made up for some of the not so good stuff I went through. The Colonel told us that the whole reason for the visit was that if WW3 breaks out and we found out that the unit next to us getting it's collective a$$ kicked was the Parachute Regt that we'd immediately say "We're on the way to help. Those are good guys. They treated us well" He said "That's why you are here and we're going to make damn sure you go home with that attitude" I don't think I bought a drink the whole time I was there. He pointed out that it's because you are the 82d Abn. People all over the former British empire remember. You're living on the reputation from WW2. (and out of the side of his mouth "don't screw it up", with a smile). Good Colonel. His troops loved him. And they were outstanding troopers. Also, they had FNs and Hi-Powers, which we coveted Dave
  6. It's been discussed here in other threads. A LOT. Especially the one titled something like new things for the new thing.
  7. John, By any chance is the user you use to log in not an Admin user? Do you have separate users on your Mac - one as admin, the other for "normal" use. That's when that error can pop up. Which would also mean that it might just exit if you don't get that. Second possibility. Installer package could be a bad download and it can't verify it. Have you tried a fresh download. At some point early in beta development I believe I got that message and it was because the Mac installer was not ready for prime time yet I think. Can't remember now which title that happened on. Been a while. Dave
  8. Tank treads one is already logged to be fixed. I'm not seeing the same issue with the turrets though.
  9. A lot of the mods are awesome, but when checking for bugs, step one is always to move your mods folder somewhere safe, out of the CM installation, and then try to duplicate the same behavior. If it still shows up then you know it's a possible/probable bug. If it doesn't show up, well, now you have to hunt for it among your mods, which can be tedious to remove a mod at a time and restart the save to check it, iterate number of mods times. Dave
  10. I get music. I've not seen (heard )this and I'm playing with the sound off fairly often as I'm sitting with my wife watching TV. Is this the PC or Mac version? Dave
  11. @John Kettler For the Mac version, try this if you haven't already. The Mac approved developer check can take a LOOOONG time to run before it comes up with the message about not being able to check for malicious software (which you then have to override in security preferences). And I mean long. I've mistakenly given up on them because they took so long. It's especially bad for large installers like these. Right click on the installer .pkg file and select Open. That will bypass that message and you will eventually get a message that just asks if you want to Open or Cancel. Emphasis on eventually. It can take minutes for these large installer during which time it appears that it is doing nothing. You have to select Open because Cancel is the default (blue highlighted) button. Then you should get the familiar Mac installer screens, which progress quickly. Then same thing when you start the program the first time. Right click and select Open from the popup menu and things will go more smoothly. After the first time it's fine. The game will start up and shut down very fast (couple seconds at most depending on how new your hardware is - yours should be pretty much instant). I can assure you the Mac installers work. There are several Mac users on the beta teams and we beat on the Mac versions Feel free to PM me if you still have problems. I, like you am a Mac user from way before the days of even CMBO. I'm pretty good at poking around in the guts of a Mac (software wise anyway). Dave
  12. A shoot and scoot command ( parameters to be figured out) was something many of the play testers noted was something that would be a really useful addition. The need for it is more evident in CW than in other titles. You can manually manage it but it’s fiddley. Have a dedicated command would be nice. Complicated to creat I would guess because of all the different checks of ATGMs. Keep in mind the hull down command is tricky to use when doing it yourself, so the AI controlling something like that could be a challenge. Dave
  13. This isn't a very good way to employ M113s. Ideally, you want them to drive to a covered position, just out of site of the enemy, have the infantry disembark and deploy to where they need to be. M113s and early BMPs and BTRs are all very fragile. If you wait until the M113 spots the enemy, that spotting is very likely to be the last thing they do. I don't see this game behavior as an problem. For the ATGMs, not sure. Have to look into that. Dave
  14. Yes, it was a sad day when Apple Rosetta support ended and I could no longer play any CM1 titles. Having Mac versions of each CM2 has been great and all run perfectly well on my 13" MacBook Pro that does not have a dedicated graphics card. There are also several of us Mac people on the beta team. Dave
  15. Only a few feature urban combat. There is plenty of wide open space, some of it deep in snow. Dave
  16. I've logged it. It won't be in the upcoming patch (too late). But it will get looked at. Dave
  17. IMO @BFCElvis was too busy herding us beta testers around 1) collecting and submitting bug reports for CW, 2) collecting and submitting bug reports for FR, 3) getting us to check the FR patch prior to release (yes, I broke it for the Mac. Well, actually it was broken and I found it). All to get out two patches absolutely as fast as possible. The beta testers herd themselves pretty well (reasonably well?) (Maybe?) (Sometimes?) but someone has to direct traffic. Whole lotta stuff went on behind the curtain the last several days. Dave
  18. It's already been improved. That behavior has been programmed out. RT is the last to receive this update. And while it didn't happen as much in RT, during playtesting I was facing some Russian troops in a farm complex who suddenly rushed toward me. That was before the same fixes that the rest of the games already had were applied as part of the update containing RT. BN was by far the worst affected of this, and I think the consensus is that troops behavior now is much improved and more what you'd expect. If you ARE still seeing this somewhere, please try to duplicate and provide a save. It shouldn't be happening any more so if it is, it should be investigated. Dave
  19. Can you be more specific? I set up a couple QB in Feb 45, and selected some different forces and all the ones I selected were whitewashed. If you can provide specifics or better yet, a saved game, we could take a look. Dave
  20. IS-2s are brutes and Panthers don't spot well buttoned up. That's a tough combination.
  21. Not sure. I haven't tried in quite a while because my new computer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I'm using Parallels Desktop on a MacBook Pro for my Windows games. Dave
