  1. Its good practice to use the face command liberally. It says in the manual face has an impact on spotting. So with that, as well as utilizing terrain effectively, theres a huge incentive to get in the habit of using face.
  2. Were you talking about this one? http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1303
  3. Yes I am positive. Like I said, I can get them to merge after I break the parent unit into fire teams.
  4. Is there any possibility of leaving the colors in on the orders panel? I am so used to the colors, I don't think playing without them would be easy. Is there a file to delete so that doesn't get changed that I could possibly delete to preserve the colors on the order panel? Other than that it looks perfect.
  5. Ok at least its not just me IDK if I could keep my squads perm separated, adds too much micro in RT for my tastes hehe.
  6. IIRC I never had an issue with merging split squads in SF. But getting the 2 man teams to rejoin in Normandy is hit or miss. Even if I issue move orders to both parent unit and 2man team to same action spot, much of the time they stay separate. It has something to do with a multi-fireteam parent, spreading over multiple action spots. Even sending the 2 man team to both actionspots the parent squad is occupying ( pausing long enough for a merge to happen) doesn't work. When this does happen, the only way I have found to remerge is to split the parent unit so each sep unit is 1 fire team, then send them all to the same action spot. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does breaking down the parent is the only way I can fix it. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
  7. Not always an option, at least in SF. Not sure if there are preserve obj in Normandy but it's good to know how to clear structures in case they pop up.
  8. Thanks to everyone who took the time to run tests. Some of the most enlightening threads are the ones like this, where the community ran tests and published findings. Eagerly awaiting what the internal BFC investigation finds.
  9. I am not sure there is a comparable vehicle in CM:N as FO vehicles in SF, which provided benefits to the FO when calling in Arty, but some HQ vehicles do have optics. Do these or any other unit benefit from calling in strikes while in a vehicle?
  10. Does the AI only fire AT assets when given an order by the player?
  11. Bocage might skew the results too. IMHO the safest way to separate lanes is with elevation. It takes a little longer but nor by much.
  12. They are empty when bought in scen editor as well. Both shelters and MG bunkers.
  13. So is it confirmed that troops benefit from nearby terrain/cover? I just got done building my shooting range, so will need to make adjustments if this is the case. If it was answered apologies, the amounts of numbers in this thread started to blur together
  14. I am not so sure about that anymore. I am not a scen designer, so am not sure if the AI is capable, but not scripted to it's potential or not. But I have seen the AI be absolutely lethal in Normandy.
  15. IIRC and understand your question, no we won't be able to fire mortars from inside HT's. I remember someone explaining the didn't fire from the HT as standard procedure, the mortar crew dismounted, tho dont quote me on that as I have no idea either way.
  16. How experience impacts game play is a really important to understand, and is overlooked by a lot of players. I am not sure it's the job of scenario designers to explain that. Maybe it could be emphasized more in the manual, I am not entirely sure why it gets dismissed/overlooked so easily.
  17. Total realism was basically collection of skins and edited text files. Making Cavalry more realistic involved changing text values for speed, morale etc. Total War games are insanely tweak able/modable. I loved Rome:TR, but I don't think you can do anything close to what you can do with CMx2 games just judging by the mods that are available. IIRC from CMx1, the M10 and 76mm Sherman had the same main gun. I have noticed M10s to be a good counter to German armor, but haven't had much exp with 76mm Shermans. Do they perform similar to M10's in the AT role in game?
  18. Rabaul has plagued my dreams since the day I bought Uncommon Valor. Talk about learning curve hehe. Still remember how satisfying it was to level that place. This is probably one of the reasons I have such a hard time justifying reserves in this game. Apart from Artillary shellacking my boys, or preserving ammo, I have yet to see a situation that in my mind, wouldn't be made better by an extra [insert appropriate CMx2 unit] ie: platoon of infantry, not a platoon of truck drivers. I still struggle with this, I really want to use reserves against the AI, but I haven't been able to justify it....yet.
  19. I wonder if assault orders, which IIRC wasn't particularly good when house clearing in SF, would do the trick. I don't remember my equipment state the last time I cleared out an enemy position with assault orders, and my memory is bad on a good day, but I remember nades being chucked. . I don't remember ever moving into an occupied structure in Normandy yet, so haven't run into the issue yet. Will run some tests.
  20. Stainer, it has nothing to do with specific people are beta testers or not. Not sure why you focus your angst towards them. Run some tests, take screenshots, and post your findings. Not sure what you expect without that.
  21. Stainer, you might actually enjoy running tests. Running my own gave me a lot of insight on how all the factors you dismissed earlier impact what you think you just saw during gameplay. And thanks for posting the results guys. Ps - There are a few songs that are just downright prophesetic....if Rehab wasn't in the top 20, it would be a crime
  22. I watched it 4 times, and although I agree that fox holes can be a pain to deal with, what I came away with was that hide might have not helped at all (didn't spot till they were almost sharing that foxhole), those guys knew where you were, 1-2 lucky garand rounds at point blank range killed all 4 guys. I didnt come away at all that the foxhole was somehow culpable. Ps. Those 3 riflemen would have been in a fetal position in open ground post garand(s), and hide had em sucking cover pre-garand. Actually now that I think about it I never considered that being in a fortified position makes a squad more susceptible to suppression. AFAIK it doesn't, my play experience in cmx2 has never shown that, but I'd have to test to be sure.
  23. Movement has a huge impact on spotting/being spotted, as does firing. I'll point back to your old thread Ali: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=93303&highlight=Normandy&page=3 That thread helped me start to grasp the core concepts, of C2 and it's relationship with spotting. I still don't have those concepts masterd, especially transitioning from SF to Normandy. But it sounds like movement to gain a LOS position, individually, against an enemy tank staring at said position is what got you nailed. Had you used smoke to cover your approach so you could get LOS for both destroyers at the same time would have given you the best chance for at least being able to return fire at a minimum. Also you might have had time for C2 to work for you, giving you a ? And the time nessisary to translate that into a spotted unit.
