  1. Yes, this is nothing new to CMBN. This has been discussed a lot. But really just read this: http://www.battlefront.com/community/archive/index.php/t-90522.html About a quarter the way down Steve from Battlefront spells it out. We can debate how hard it really is ad nauseum if you want... But the rest of us have done that already:D
  2. I started the Blue and Grey Campaign a few nights ago and I have my first "Super Sherman". That defiantly needs to be in quotes:) This guy has survived a lot of punishment but the tank and the crew are not storming around the battle field. In the first or second turn (racing up the beach) this tank hit a mine and was immobilized. Then a mortar strike came down on his position hard (all but one guy from the platoon nearby are casualties). The tank was hit several time with mortars. The crew were shaken but stayed in the tank. Next minute an AT gun (50mm) hit the front. The crew were back to shaken and popped smoke. The tank and the 50mm AT gun dueled for a few more minutes with the tank getting a few HE rounds near the gun and the gun getting a few non penetrating hits shaking the crew. The tank came out ahead and the AT gun is now silent (they had help from other units as well so not sure if the Tank gets the credit or not). For the last couple of minutes the crew have recovered but they had no radio, no optics and are immobilized. They have engaged various MG nests and other units from their location on the beach. Then the fun began again. Another AT gun (50mm again) finished shooting at targets on its side of the beach and turned on my immobilized tank. Hitting the turret side and the hull side three times two penetrating and one partial penetration. The crew is back to shaken but still not casualties. They have not fired back yet this time. Wow I am impressed but I don't know how much longer they can old out. It will come down to their fortitude and if the Rangers can get to that gun soon enough.
  3. It has been a slow PBEM week for me so I started this campaign too. I am still in the first scenario. The rangers have been luckey in mine too but they still have lost the Company CO and 1st platoon's Lt as well. The bulk of the men made it to the sea wall along with a single fully operational tank. I just watched the turn as the start their assent up the sea wall and then the hill. Kudos to BFC the tank looks like it is working hard to make the grade and the men look like they are working hard up the slope too. The animations were very satisfying. Hopefully I will have time to record some video. Lots of fun so far - despite the incredible losses.
  4. That is very useful. I am sure I will find a way to get use out of that. Thanks. Oh I totally missed that - thanks.
  5. Impressive - my Shermans usually die after the first hit. Also impressive. The thing about this game is you never really know the condition of the tank or the crew. The game does not show you the yellow base for immobilized vehicles for your enemy's vehicles. Nor does it show the damage to systems list either. Don't get me wrong it is amazing that this Sherman survived all this but I doubt it is good working order. Once the game is over I think you get more information about enemy vehicle condition. What did the end of game screen tell you? Almost all the games I have played I have had no idea what kind of shape my enemy vehicles or soldiers are in. It is part of the beauty of this game. During the battle you can make some suppositions but you cannot really be sure. I have a game on the go now where two Panther tanks are sitting stationary while the battle rages on away from them. At first I though my opponent had something up his sleeve and for many turns I was careful what did just because I expected those Panthers to start maneuvering and messing up my plans. At this point I think they are immobilized (I fired many 60mm and 81mm mortar rounds at them) but I am not totally sure. Yawn see below Yeah, mortars are probably the reason the tank did not behave as you expected. I have seen many Shermans get hit by 81mm mortars and the only thing they suffer from is immobilization. So, that Sherman probably lost its ability to retreat in the first mortar barrage. Those mortars are just not powerful enough to reliably destroy a tank. I would not rule it out happening but it does not seem likely. However they certainly can immobilize a tank and I have seen that more than once. For example I started Blue and Grey yesterday and one of my Shermans was immobilized in a mine field. Since then they have been under near constant mortar barrage. I have no idea how many hits they have taken. Everyone is fine and so is the rest of the tank. It is true the crew have become shaken on two occasions but so far they have stayed in the tank. The German mortars are just not powerful enough to take them out. Yes, I know there are bigger mortars my experience with *not* killing tanks is with 50, 60 and 81mm mortars (both sides). I do not know if the bigger ones would KO a tank or not. BTW What do you mean by medium mortars? I would have thought 81mm mortars were medium.
  6. Interesting idea - I was wondering why have an entire division on a CMBN map even though the group picture you posted is cool. I have a question though: you spoke of importing a OOB into a CMBN map using the scenario editor, I must be missing something. How do you import an order of battle into the scenario editor?
  7. Oh that I understand - those spammers can find forums so fast. But I was not suggesting an open forum only that anyone could read and only members can post. I saw the list of supported games but not the actual rankings, games won, games lost etc. That is what I was looking for. From reading your post it sounded like while the CMBN ladder was new there were others on going. I wondered what they looked like.
  8. I had a peak but I do not see the ladder link nore can I see any of the forum posts. I understand that the CMBN ladder is just starting but do you have other ladders? It would be nice to see what your ladder listing looks like and see what the forums content looks like. Being able to browse a site before signing up is, IMHO, the best way to support recruitment. 9. Well I agree that does not look like a pixel scaling problem due to different aspect rations between the monitor and the display resolution. After looking at your pictures I have no idea what is going on. And if Aris' grid works then that is even more baffling. Weird I hope someone has an idea to explain this.
  10. Come to think of it, you can probably do that to your self with out changing the game settings. Even with the game screen resolution set the "Desktop" if your OS settings are not quite right your game will not be either.
  11. Off the top of my head it could be the screen resolution you have set in game. In the Options page there is a Display size drop down which includes "Desktop" and a few other resolutions for example "1024x768". If you have a wide screen monitor and you have a resolution set that is not matched to your monitor's aspect that would explain squares showing up as rectangles. So if I have a wide screen monitor and I have the 1024x768 resolution set that would cause that kind of a look.
  12. My pleasure - I have ran in the same thing myself and since I still have games going on using the 1.01 version I have to pay attention to where I install my scenarios.
  13. If it was made with the patch then you need the patch to play it.
  14. You are correct purchasing single vehicles is more expensive than as a unit. If you pick up a platoon of Shermans (M4A1 late all regular, normal, fit, 0) the each tank in the formation is 187 points. If you add individual M4A1 late regular, normal, fit, 0 tanks to a unit they will each cost 202. So, not huge but there is a difference. So if you added five tanks to some other formation to simulate a platoon of Shermans that would cost you 1010 points but if you added a medium tank battalion formation and strip away all but one platoon that would cost you 935 points.
  15. +1 I would love that too. I have asked for it too.
  16. @womble means that in the game there is no way to resupply amo *to* a tank or tank destroyer (or half track for that matter). Therefore there would be little use in an amo trailer. It is possible that changes to how amo supply are handled could make it useful in the future. We will just have to wait and see. As my son's hockey coach was fond of saying "But don't holder your breath, cause you might die".
  17. @para Check this out http://www.battlefront.com/community/archive/index.php/t-97288.html
  18. Testing would be a good idea. I just completed a game that included an encounter between a tiger and three Cromwells. I was using the Cromwell's speed to come at the Tiger from multiple directions. The fact that I knew where it was and was able to maneuver well let me get the first shot with each encounter. My tanks managed three wheel hits from close range on the right side of the Tiger (we were in an orchard and the distances were under 200m). My thought at the time was - OMG how many times do I have to hit the wheels on that beast to make it stop. The Tiger just kept coming. In the end my last wheel hit did immobilize it. The Tiger totally destroyed two Cromwells and rendered the third mute (only two crew left no working gun and severely degraded mobility) Seems perfectly plausible outcome to me. And yes if I had immobilized it with the first hit or if it was still going after three I would still say it was a plausible out come I have to admit that I was hoping that a surprise hit from the side really close I might even manage to destroy that Tiger. No luck there. Those are truly scary tanks.
  19. I have seen this happen a couple of times too. Once to my guys (rats!) and once to my opponents. So, yes your own grenades can cause friendly casualties. I wish I had recorded it on play back - oh well next time.
  20. +1 to that. I would buy that just as surely as I would a bulge game and all its modules or an eastern front game and all its modules. If these guys build it an its WWII I'll buy it.
  21. It is pretty odd. There have been a few reports of single members of squads getting separated by 100m or more. It could be that this is just that same thing happening but with an AT gun team. I understand that AT guns are modeled as infantry weapons. A possible explanation.
  22. It was part of a secret German weapons project to perfect telleportation; in order to save money and materials by not having to build trucks.
  23. Thanks for that explanation - makes sense. So, it sounds like it is not possible to get the turret numbers for a whole company visible in game arranged that way. I can live with that. The various numbering styles you provided all look really cool. From reading the reference provided by @patboy it does not seem like the turret number look was assigned to a unit.
