  1. To much tactical wargames to play at the moment. CMBN, CMSF-NATO (still waiting for patch 1.31), PC:O and CMA. They are all nice gems and CMA shines no less than the others.
  2. You have the manual as pdf, which contains the description for the boot camp campaign (giving movement orders, basic firing procedures etc.). Should not be that hard to figure it out this way.
  3. As already said these are the CMBO Beta/Gold scenarios. They where recreated for almost every Combat Mission game since then (CM:A is missing, someone has to do somefink...) . They are presumably the scenarios most often played. For me it is Chance Encounter I have most played, but the first experience of CM-magic I had with Riesberg. Would also to like to see this last one for CMBN. Even Wikipedia knows about it:
  4. Do you try to say 'amphibische Fallschirmjäger mit Waffenschnorchelröhren'?
  5. CMSF-Nato and Afghanistan also have still a patch open each.
  6. That's the whole 'gag' of the story. The guns where removed 1 Mile inland before the attack. Most of the Rangers KIA occured after the cliff-attack, because they had to scout&destroy the guns - that was their main objective after all.
  7. Ebenfalls nichts zu sehen nördlich des Rennsteigs.
  8. If you have taken the cliff, you face exactly that when you have to go on inland in search for the guns. Let's see how Hürtgen Forest plays out when CMx2-engine arrives there...
  9. For CMSF + Marines and British modules I had to drive each time to the customs office (20km). Apart from gasoline it was always some 12 - 15 € I had to pay additionally. But I pre-ordered the steel-thingy anyway. It would feel 'wrong' to don't pre-order 'deluxes' when it comes to CM for me.
  10. I just bought PC:O. CMBN is the brighter star more inovative and 'deeper' - the actual 'must-have', but the other game is a (rough) gem in it's own niche and will still my Ostfront-wargaming needs for the next years. Don't want to start a PCO vs CMBN war, just give a signal to the real enthusiast that there is good reason to buy both games.
  11. AI with normal setting is always easy to moderately easy when you have played for years iron pbem. Challenge is to play against another human. Here it can go from laughable to trans-plutonical. It's a combination of knowing your tactics, how to implement them over the ui, invested time for thinking for each of your unit every turn or pause + luck.
  12. Confirmed. But I use all faces, stock+moded for both sides anyway.
  13. But the 'acts of God' [the holy RNG = random number generator] are intervening EVERY battle of CM, that's the whole point. The experiencers will never 'be placed' in 11 June 1944 exactlly 1km northeast of Carentan at two oclock in the afternoon'. They will be placed in a CM-scenario designed according '11 June 1944 exactlly 1km northeast of Carentan at two oclock in the afternoon'. After setup all is open. Your tactics just affect your CHANCE that the following events will accord with the chance to achieve your aim, which can be even totaly different then the aims wanted on '11 June 1944 exactlly 1km northeast of Carentan at two oclock in the afternoon'.
  14. It's just 'bla, bla, bla' from you. I don't talk about how CM should be played, but about how CM actually plays. indeed... Jedem das Seine :] Gruß Smaradadler
  15. To lead a ladder means nothing (in CM-wargaming)... so, what would be the point to invest time. I play since years pbem against opponents of different skill level. I still can lose against a 'noob', when the dice fall the wrong way. And winning is not winning. If you play Uncons in CMSF you will mostly NOT win, the 'skill level' you have just gives your 'likeliness' how much you are 'a pain in the butt' for your opponent when he drives home his 'win'... WAR is not 'fair', a condition for true 'competition'. The point of CM is to simulate WAR as a 'game'. Play Chess. ...And don't come with the argument, that ladder-CM should be played only with equal forces. That would miss the point of CM in the beginning. I play no game with CM (would be a profanation), I play THE WARGAME. A dismounted 'Ronson'-team has a (very, very, very, very, very, very...)-unlikely chance to win against 70 virgins or ...Tigers in CM. Not the base for a fair 'competion'. End of story.
  16. Better sniff at the Zeitgeist before, or you will maybe sink...
  17. For a 'competition' you need rules. WAR is the 'playground of The Goddess' - there are no rules. It's all about WARgaming. Gamey or not. Adjust your tactics. I play pbem since CMBB. Never understood the point of CM-ladders. It just shows, who has the best acquisition to the game-engine... Your most ingenious tactics can go to the dogs when Silly Billy does accidentally or not the right thing in the right moment... You can just adjust your tactics for good or better. Between 'total' equal players, luck would alwasy decide the outcome.
  18. ...as Speedy. What is 'competitive'? Even if I go against the AI, I want to win.
  19. Iron Mode and WEGO play: You watch your full turn from 'drone-view' first time and then rewind and select-deselect units and view-high as you need for fun and plotting your next move. If a icon of one of your unit flashes when no unit is selected, it has got casualties, if faded out it has 'routed'. If you select a unit it's icon flashes also, but this time to indicate that it is selected and all the other icons are the units it can spot. It's really not that hard after some time, when you got used to the controlls. True 'bad-ass'-mode is WEGO-Iron mode with only ground view of selected units, far zoomed-out top-down view only allowed for HQs (map). Zoomed view only when optics are available. Icons only on map-view. But you need as much time as for a table-top battle in the basement. Some military symbols icon mod is usefull (better distinguishable).
  20. I would like to have it with NATO-symbols...
  21. I advice to follow Juju suggestions, your mod will get more used in the long run (if it is good enough), at least when the mod-manager arrives. Defenitly include a read-me, the text you can also use for a advertisement-post: Some example by myself (not CMBN): http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=93280 http://ww.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?p=1207463
  22. Église fortifiée de Saint Juvin (Ardennes)
  23. That is (was) exactly one function of very old churches still standing in the countryside...at least in Thuringia, for what I know. That's the reason for the name Wehr-kirche. If you only have archers as arty, they are a hard nut to crack.
  24. Ahem, just something compels me to add that technically a Schlosskirche would have more elegance than this Wehrkirche (='fortified' church ) in the picture. Schlosskirche (='palace' church).
