  1. Umm guess I am one of the few that played this one as the Russian. Lets see had about 41 tanks and I lost 20 of them and two thirds of my infantry. Pretty much wiped out everything the Germans had . Took all the land objectives. It said it was a major Soviet victory, but of course it didn't feel very "victorious" I suppose at this stage of the war the USSR could accept such appalling losses though. A side note the Russian player was supposed to have a battery of 122mm, I kept checking every turn: "denied, out of contact, not available" none of my HQ tanks or infantry could get hold of it the entire game. It might have made things a little easier to soften up those anti tank guns. (sigh)
  2. I like the QB's best too because for me I think I finally have the "Computer Squad Leader" experience I had hoped for since the early days when Combat Mission was in the works as a joint venture between Avalon Hill and Battlefront (formerly known as "Big Time Software") I think. Having the ability to play scenarios with a handful of squads, and a few field guns or 2 or 3 AFV's to spice things up. To me that is in keeping with the true Squad Leader or Advanced Squad Leader tradition. I still like to think of those board games as the ancestors or great great grandparents of the CMx2 games we now have.
  3. I have not got an email either that my CD package has shipped. Was starting to worry. I have to say I am a bit perplexed at the "hate" (maybe to strong a word) for CD media. Is there a new media that I dont know about that preserves games, data, movies etc. better? Laser discs can literally last for decades, unlike magnetic media. It just seems to me people just want something newer "better" (maybe) to fast. Maybe its just my generation. In my house we still used a rotary landline telephone until the the late 70's maybe early 80's. Also still played vinyl records on phonograph "record player" till about the same time. How long were folks using those technologies? Without using Google are otherwise researching it I'd guess almost 100 years at least!
  4. I disagree with the thread starters assertion that the game should be "improved" to change the subjective "normal" KIA/WIA ratio. As others have suggested, this ratio is greatly affected by the players style of play. I have played dozens of CM games and my losses run at about 2 wounded for every killed. I don't play like a butcher, I hate to see troops get killed.
  5. You guys got to be snipers? They made me stay in the rear and shovel horse manure out of stalls. But as it turns out its a good skill to have in a thread like this.
  6. The horse is neither sleeping or dead. He is simply doing an eyelid PMCS.
  7. True. When I was a soldier in Germany (1988 not WW2) we did the same thing with our M60 machine guns when I was in the field.(I hated FTX's btw. camo nets were a pain in the you know what) Artillery has concentrations and registrations pre-plotted. I seem to remember a rule in ASL about "Boresighting" for direct fire weapons. Maybe that would address his concerns ?
  8. IS-1 tank in my game was apparently hit by a shell. Big explosion, turret turned BLACK. The rest of the tank was still the regular brown color. The IS-1 was not damaged and continued fighting normally until later destroyed. I was just wondering if it was a graphics glitch. Sorry about the spoiler, hopefully this condensed version is ok.
  9. Are you sure there were none in the East? I used to play some Squad Leader and ASL too and there was a scenario called "Agony of Doom" with a Jagdtiger and a Jagdpanther in a little town tryng to hold off the Russians. Of course it could have been fictitious.
  10. Haha I just finished "Assault" . Russians are supposed to cross a stream in two fording places and a little bridge and take a hill top. I had 3 T-34-85's lots of infantry and some mortars and 122mm offboard support. The fascist had some tough defenses and some mines strewn around. One by one my tanks are blown up, late in the game I see Tiger tanks appear, no wonder. I had very heavey casualties but had a toe hold on the hilltop and the fording areas but not the small bridge. WIth all my tanks long since brewed up, I rushed my ammo carriers and truck from west road to the east road to make a dash for the bridge. (I know very gamey move) It appeared that my vehicles were lend lease US jeeps. One of them races across the brigde as I get the message that it located the objective, then I pilled it into a small area of what I hoped was "dead space" but the jeep goes "Boom!" What the heck was that? I wondered, then I zoomed the view in close to see a little red sign nearby: "achtung minen" . Somehow I eeked out a draw. a pyrrhic draw I'd say.
  11. yeah be careful about what you post man! What if Battlefront suddenly say, OK all you ungrateful Sons of B___'s everyone has to return your copy of CMRT!
  12. I got my feet wet playing "dead of night" a short sharp skirmish of infantry squads, it was fun. I too give CMRT an edge over Steel Panthers, that I once played a lot.
  13. At the risk of being unpopular I have to say I like it that they are taking their time getting scenarios right. Although I appreciate the great scenario tools they (BF) provide, scenario making is time consuming and I find it to be a lot of work, I would rather spend my limited recreational time playing these fine games.
  14. I am wondering if anyone besides me is on a CM "fast" right now until CMRT gets released? I mean I have CM Normandy, Market Garden, 2.0, Fortress Italy, Gothic Line, and have not been playing them for a couple of weeks now. Once I have CMRT I will play it but I know I will be playing the other ones all the time once again. Well, its great to have so much variety.
  15. Thanks for explaining your analogy/ metaphor. Its really not a bad way to think about it at all. So, don't be said because I am sure CMRT will be out "pretty soon" Oh brother, now I am doing it too.
  16. I know what you mean! In another thread, a member posted this: "Yes, I also think that between March 22nd - 25th we'll have the optimal launch window" WHAT THE HECK IS "OPTIMAL"??? SO now where I am sitting it is officially March 27 so we are now beyond "optimal" .. I guess it is a good thing this is a game launch and not a space shuttle.
  17. I still say Friday, April 18, 2100 GMT. I dont mind if it's done earlier though.
  18. I want to make a guess too please. I will say April 18 is the day, because there was a a Red Thurrrrsday so there will be a Good Friiiiiiday, Its now less than a month away. Its nice to see so many CMx2 titles coming. Something to look forward to for quite a while.
  19. As I imagine this conversation, I can't help but think its too wordy for a real life and death combat situation. It does remind me of a scene from a war movie, one of the actors had to be David Niven.
  20. I am almost afraid to ask, but any chance there might be a CMx2 module for North Africa , esp from the Gazala battles to El Alamein, perhaps even the Tunisia campaign?
  21. It was nice to see when I got home from work tonight my pre order download was ready. Unfortunately, I did not get home till nearly 3 hours after the email was sent. Still, it seems only pre orders are downloading as of now, mine is only going to take a little more than an hour. How long after release do they wait to allow regular purchasers to get it?? (if that is an allowable question, just curious) About 6 hours seems fair to me anyway.
  22. I'm sure it's no consolation but you arent the only one. My system is similar to yours and it wont start. I can tell you the game can run on Windows 7 64 bit because it was running great two weeks ago. But after not running it for a while now it wont start at all. The source of the problem seems to be that the LicCtrlServce will not / can not start. We dont know why at the present. I also made out my trouble ticket and the battle front guys gave me some things to try but none of that worked for me either. I could not even get the unlicense box to come up, I have tried un installing and reinstalling the game, and I tried uninstalling my antivirus/firewall software and that didnt work. I know the BF guys are trying but there just doesnt seem to be a fix for this issue yet.
  23. I too am dissatisfied with this manual. At best I feel deceived, and possibly lied to. Battlefront, I don’t know why in the world I would pay an extra ten dollars plus postage and handling for this little pamphlet you call a manual. This is a shame because I wanted to make a post on how much I am enjoying this game so far, because its excitement and realism levels are much improved over the first TOW game which I also purchased. Battlefront I hope you will please PLEASE be more honest in your advertisements in the future. Enough angry customers about false advertisement could bring a suit which I don’t think any of us want to see happen. I have not yet purchased TOW2 Africa and was seriously considering it too, if it as good as this Kursk version. Now however I am reconsidering that. I am confident that Battlefront will endeavor to make good and learn from this occurrence
