  1. The loss of five Challenger (four burnt out) in an utterly insignificant engagement (against T-55s) would be more than a tactical defeat for the British Army, it would be a headline making disaster of epic proportions.....We only have around two hundred of them and only one Challenger has ever been KOed by direct fire, and that was achieved by another Challenger! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenger_2
  2. Cheers for the reply......I did indeed pick up Pacific and I really like it, didn't actually notice the lack of Decision Events, was too busy fighting in the Jungles! At a glance Pacific seems to be essentially the same format as SC:GC, but things have since moved on to the format found in Gold, AoC/AoD & SC:WWI.....Is this about right?
  3. To be fair, the strength of the Syrian forces was not an issue for me, at least in the first battle (I was always expecting to go down fighting). The problem from my perspective was that with my comparatively meagre forces I'd caused a major blow to a British Battlegroup (five MBTs destroyed would be a calamity for us), but the outcome did not reflect this. I don't mind fighting losing battles if the victory conditions allow one to salvage something from the ashes of (inevitable) defeat.....That's just how it is sometimes. My issue with the second battle was the AFVs arriving as reinforcements with NATO airpower overhead.....That just ain't gonna happen! An OPFOR AFV rolling around in that environment is going to eat a Brimstone long before it ever gets in range of our squaddies. By all means include the armour, but have it in-situ as you did in the first mission, that makes a lot more sense given the threat overhead. Have downloaded the files and will have a nose in the editor, always interested to see how other people go about their AI scripting.....Testing AI scripts is possibly the only thing I find more tedious than writing briefings. PS - Erwin.....Yes I've started again, totally fresh as everything from my old drive turned out to be trashed.....The only thing I salvaged was the modified 'Herat' map and even that was only a half-finished edit that I'd saved on a zip-drive.
  4. Cheers.....I'm really enjoying these games, just trying to get my head around the whole game system framework, so to speak, as I'm still very new to it all. So far I've picked up SC:WWI & Breakthrough, SC:GC with Gold & AoC/AoD.....I think I'm probably going to pick up Pacific too, although I understand this to be an older iteration of the game system. I'm really very impressed at the simple elegance of this system, I've played a lot of these tile type systems (including the type that came with dice & a board) and this is among the best I've yet experienced on a computer.
  5. So.....Should all the scenarios be available in the upgrade or not? It's a pretty simple question.
  6. Is there likely to be any more content for these newer games that features the Pacific theatre? I've recently purchased SC:GC Gold, AoC & AoD but was disappointed at how little focus there is on the Pacific (the island hopping campaign, British operations in Burma and the US invasion of Guadalcanal are all major interests of mine). I understand SC:Pacific to be an older version of the game engine and that it is unlikely to be updated, is this correct?
  7. The title pretty much says it all.....Should the scenarios from SC:WWI be available when playing SCW:WWI Breakthrough? Only two of the originals (1914 Call To Arms & 1939 Storm Over Europe) are visible for me when I launch Breakthrough. Still new to the game(s) so I'm probably missing something that is blindingly obvious to everyone else.
  8. Just purchased this game (& all the other SC WWII GC titles) and patched it to latest version.....Do I still need to use the hotfix or has the patch been updated?
  9. For some reason I find this mod massively tempting.....But I don't own Global Conflict. You are going to bankrupt me!
  10. I suspect this is the root of the issue: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18725849 http://www.ibtimes.com/watch-your-tongue-language-controversy-one-fundamental-conflicts-ukraine-1559069 Not sure what the current position is.....Don't think it's worth killing each other over either way TBH.
  11. Here's one that really does my head in.....Why is it whenever I get the drop on a US MBT with a Kornet (and need a first round kill), the expensive and state of the art Russian missile always flies directly into the ground in the way Javelins NEVER seem to do? I'm not saying it doesn't happen with Javelins, but in all the time I've played CMSF & CMBS I've never noticed it happen.....If those things get so much as a glimpse of an opposing AFV it's pretty much toast in my experience.
  12. If it makes you feel any better Erwin, I feel the same.....After reading your comments I thought I'd have a look (I'm trying to get some inspiration to start writing scenarios again) and my experience was much the same as yours. Before the inevitable massacre in the first scenario I managed to knock out four or five Challengers (ie: several times more than have ever actually been lost in action) plus a brace of lighter vehicles and infantry and I scored a draw.....I felt just a bit ripped off TBH. Loss of that many MBTs would be an utter disaster for the British Army. The second scenario is plain silly.....The reinforcements it seems somehow drive to the battlefield completely avoiding the notice of the countless jets zooming around overhead, just so they can be blown to pieces once they arrive and cost you some points. I didn't bother with scenario 3.
  13. Perhaps the T-90 crew were asleep and the artillery woke them up?
  14. I thought these videos were fake too (based on excerpts released in UK press), but I've had to reconsider having seen the film linked above. It kind of reminds me of the Soviet 'Night-Witches' or Vietnam's 'Washing Machine Charlie'.....Nuisance bombing updated for the new millennium.
  15. The install was painless too, although I did have to create my own activation shortcuts for everything, despite turning my antivirus off. FWIW
  16. Cheers for clearing that up.....It wasn't a gripe particularly, the recent upgrades (and this one in particular) have been pretty damned good value for money. Just wish you'd do it for CMSF & CMA too.....Mebbe you could give us a generic cold-war engine while you are about it, it would certainly be a lot less contentious than certain other areas of the forum I could mention.
  17. Wish you had made it a bit clearer what is included in your very generous Upgrade 4 Big Bundle.....I've wound up paying for CMFI Upgrade 3 twice. On the bright side, for those of you not fully updated to engine 3, buy this package.....It's a steal! Just hope it installs OK.....My luck's not been brilliant on that front lately either.
  18. My PC seems to be sorted and I'm back to it.....Turns out I've lost the Core Units file for the campaign, but it's not the end of the world, just a bit more faffing in the editor. As for an ETA for the whole campaign.....You're kidding surely! Once I'm fully reorganised I'll turn out a one off taster mission and see if there is any interest.
  19. Most of it has survived.....A couple of things I was messing with are gone, but nothing major.
  20. CMA is cheaper and better balanced than CMSF IMHO.....It also has better options for scenario editing. If the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan interests you even slightly this one is well worth a look. The downside is that there are not very many scenarios for the game and it doesn't seem to have all that much support hereabouts.
  21. A hard-drive failure brought everything to a halt.....I've got my system mostly back to normal and all the games except CMBS seem to be working properly now. A couple of WIPs are gone for good, but nothing major has been lost.
  22. It's 1/72 scale (1 inch = 6 feet) and it's finished: So I can now get back to CMA campaign building on a rather more regular basis. I may have accidentally joined one or two other GBs in the mean-time (I've actually even nominated one, set in Afghanistan), so if I get distracted again, you know where I'll be!
