  1. too funny. I don't think you will regret it at all, other than the issue of having to decide whether to fire up CMBN or CMFI....
  2. C'mon admit it, you are just checking to see that flares still take precedence.
  3. If you are talking about LLFs Makin scenario, what I did is create a CMBN install and kept it at the version level that the mods were created for. CM allows you to do this no problem, doesn't use up any activations etc and you can retain that install with those mods and still play your normal 2.0 version against other players. You can have your cake and eat it too. Or maybe more properly, you can have your mochi and eat it too.
  4. Another item that was kind of cool about this was part of the reason I missed it was my StuG had not spotted it. I had other units that could see the M8 but I wrongfully felt it didn't have LOF to my StuG. Not that it much mattered - There was no way the StuG could get out of LOF fast enough to alter it's impending death. Another aspect that was interesting is I had actually no idea how much damage I was inflicting. Visibility during the fight was abysmal. I don't think we had a single turn there wasn't artillery falling somewhere. Between that dust, the smoke etc I could only get glimpses of individual soldiers trying to get through the minefields and barbed wire. This did however help my AT teams as they were able to use the lousy visibility to advantage. There was even one interpid fellow who completely mis interpreted his orders, charged out from behind a building in clear view of a tank and was able to get a kill before the accompanying infantry gunned him down. I had several discussions with Broadsword over the last 10 turns or so as to whether the Germans were capable of surrendering or should. C2 was shot to hell and some units were still fighting and inflicting severe casualties. The loss of the last armored vehicle and having only I think 2 shrek rounds left as a whole new section of Shermans rolled into sight sealed the deal.
  5. sorry, yes I was mis interpreting. My bad.
  6. Can't speak to that particular scenario, but I have included in mine placing TRPs to allow the AI to make up for it's inability to relocate to try to get eyes on an enemy. Otherwise the AI is being unfairly restricted relative to the player. It might be worth a look in the editor to see if that designer has done so as well.
  7. Tell that to the girls being mutilated for attempting to attend school.
  8. Well the St Lo campaign has come to an end with the Germans delaying the allied offensive enough to cause them to fail to meet their objectives. Almost a year in running, this has been a phenomenally great experience. Thank you broadsword56 for the concept, the effort, the maps, the scenarios and being a gaming partner who just enjoys the spectacle and play. It has multiplied my enjoyment of CM many times over and spoiled the crap out of me. For those interested, the last battle we fought out in CM was an allied hasty assault on a fortified position - the Chateau of La Luzerne. The battle didn't quite pan out the way we'd hoped as the Chateau collapsed several floors all the way into the basement leaving a gaping hole in our battlefield (and a bunch of German pioneer corpses). We'd hoped it would hold up longer, but war is hell. As it was the German defenders were able to inflict enough punishment on the attacking US force before surrendering to make that unit incapable of exploiting it's gains. The OP layer came a hair's breadth from causing an urban fight in the suburbs of St Lo before the US force simply ran out of steam to press home the attack in the time allotted. The highlight of this fight for the Germans were the PzShk teams which took a severe toll in Allied armor. Their StuG brethren for the most part were ineffective. They were far too vulnerable to flank attacks. 3 of the 4 succumbed without being able to contribute much more than being a deterrent. The 4th did account for 4 Shermans. The AT guns were almost useless, a combination of bad luck (also known as enemy artillery) and poor positioning by their commander. umm yeah that would be me. So what did we learn? Well for one, though it is a lot of work, the reward is huge. We had no special rules, no umpire to play blind. Just a board game for an op layer and two players who wanted to have consequences to our battles and a more realistic determinant on when to call for a withdrawal or surrender. We both felt that St Lo provided a very good op layer in restricting options for both sides and forcing planning decisions. The initative and morale issues really added a lot to the tension of the campaign. Broadsword can speak to that more having run the OP layer. The only sucky part is it finally ended and before we could fight for St Lo. Reason enough to have another go at it some time in the future. Next up is hard to determine yet, but the one we were shooting for was a MG campaign - so BF hurry up with the module will ya?
  9. Artificial Insemination. It is what happens to your pixeltruppen when the AI kicks your butt.
  10. Looking forward to it, your building mods are a really nice addition.
  11. Yeah well the question remains as to how you ever found a girlfriend while spending that much time modding... or is there some kind of modders groupie thing going on?
  12. I am not sure that is an exact description of the design process nor do I understand what you mean not working as well as CMx1. I know in one thread Steve actually discussed the whole idea of RTS versus WeGo and statements about it being an RTS oriented game, but that can also fall into semantics about what is "designed" and what is just the development process. For me it wasn't all that important as long as WeGo was still there how the design process went. What do you see as things that worked better in CMx1? I honestly don't recall well enough not having fired up CMx1 in a really long time to be able to compare objectively.
  13. Man you are one sick dude, and I love it. Not sure about fighting on it, but it is certainly a hoot to look at.
  14. Wow and for those of us who have had CMSF and somehow missed this, thanks for the reminder.
  15. True good points, but the fact that it got as much attention as it did was to me an indication that people don't really care to educate themselves if it interferes with their preferred beliefs. That goes for all sides of the political spectrum. Maybe just human nature, but annoying nevertheless. Okay enough political rant, sorry to sidetrack things. Please return to your regularly scheduled grognard discussion.
  16. If the Battle of the Atlantic were ever truly at risk of being lost I expect we would simply have ordered units of the Pacific Fleet to head east. Japan wasn't going to threaten the US and the naval force required to keep them at arm's length from Australia would have been significantly different than that required to prosecute the island hopping campaign. I think the way the war went was a best case scenario for the axis. Any alternative history isn't going to really increase their odds of winning without being hopelessly unrealistic. For example, part of the golden era of the U boats was simply how long it took the US to truly implement convoys and adapt to a war footing. When the U boats hit the eastern seaboard, the US was still in denial mode with no shoreline blackouts etc.
  17. Considering that here we have a significant portion of the population that still doesn't get that our President really is an American citizen, but is also a christian it is not surprising to see how little they know about events and leaders from 70 years ago.
  18. ah the anti fanboi brigade is out in force. Once again pointing out that our pixeltruppen who are somehow now self aware should "know" better about what they are doing. Good lord guys it is a game. Some things are included because they HAVE to be for play versus the AI. No matter what you think, your pixeltruppen are not really thinking. Yes it feels good to pretend they are, but they are not. It is a set of routines preprogrammed to achieve certain capabilities and does have it's limitations- deal with it. It is not a bug - they really aren't thinking, they are doing what you told them to do, unfortunately what you told them to do is something that doesn't work and they are not thinking about the fact that it isn't working, they are simply follwing your flawed orders. Tanks fire on the move as requiring the AI to stop and fire would just make the AI far less competitive - period. BF has explained this too many times to bear having to waste their time in another thread. Maybe someday they will figure out some way to change that, but that day is not today. Artillery that isn't really meant to be in an indirect fire mode on the map because most CM maps are now too small simply shouldn't be used in indirect mode. Having the game HAVE to deal with everything you might do wrong would be a big waste of resources that could be better utilized elsewhere. Yeah it sucks that what you told them to do doesn't work, but rather than ask that they spend time fixing it so that they won't do it, just stop doing it and let them work on something else - like fire. I thought you guys had stopped playing as the game was so broken as to be unplayable. fanboi out.
  19. In the year 2030 the world non violence governing body will rule that combat and violent oriented games are completely banned and all new personal electronic entertainment platforms will have auto detect of any violent imagery shutting the device down and reporting the user. Historians will look back on the first couple decades of the 21st century as the highpoint of wargaming and will note the large issue of depression affecting those who were only in their teens and 20's during the early decades when their hobby was ripped out of their hands and they were forced to play social relationship building games and spend more time with their dysfunctional families. Sucks to be young right now.
  20. There are certainly some advantages to TCP IP play especially if you are already interested in RTS play. However it does tie you to playing the game in that particular time slot and to uninterrupted attention. HTHH and dropbox allow you to play while trying to catch up on Game of Thrones through Netflix while your opponent is busy laughing at your latest gaffe because you weren't focused on the game. It also helps when your opponent is on the opposite side of the globe.
  21. Okay who is the fool who signed the form authorizing Aris to have a life? Damn Aris when you make a New Year's resolution to change your life you don't believe in half measures do you? Best of luck to you.
  22. They are busy tweeting about their old man playing some stupid game that doesn't even shout "Headshot!!" on a sniper kill.
  23. Broadsword56 turned me on to that book and I liked it so much I went out and bought a hard copy despite already having it on my kindle. Really good reading. Love the maps, absolutely beautiful work. My wife and I drove this route on our honeymoon, little did I know then I'd be revisiting it in CM. LOL
  24. +1 to the above HTHH and dropbox are definitely the way to go. You can even chat through HTHH as you pass turns. It feels more like a hot seat game than email and you can relax and enjoy it, which for us old farts is a huge plus.
  25. I think they heard you and are preparing your present for Dec 25th 2013. Unfortunately it might be coal, not sure which list you are on.
